Heal and Restore Rick!
"Ongoing Pnemonia"....:(
Looked up Pnemonia treatment and got this: Treatment depends on the cause and severity of the pneumonia. Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial pneumonia but are ineffective against viral pneumonia. Treatment of pneumonia consists of respiratory support, including O2 if indicated, and antibiotics, which are selected on the basis of Gram stain results. If Gram stain is not performed or does not establish a diagnosis, antibiotics are selected on the basis of probabilities according to patient age, epidemiology, host risk factors, and severity of illness. Antibiotics are the main causal therapy for pneumonia. The antibiotics that are used depend on the nature of the pneumonia and the immune status of the patient. Amoxicillin is used as first-line therapy in the vast majority of community patients, sometimes with added clarithromycin. In North America, where the atypical forms of community aquired pneumonia are becoming more common, clarithromycin, azithromycin, and the fluoroquinolones have displaced the penicillin-derived drugs as first line therapy. In hospitalised patients and immune deficient patients, local guidelines generally determine which combination of (generally intravenous) antibiotics is used. When in the hospital, respiratory treatments to remove secretions may be necessary. Occasionally, steroid medications may be used to reduce wheezing if there is an underlying lung disease. Most patients with mild pneumonia can be treated at home with oral antibiotics. Patients should be sure to drink plenty of liquids. Coughing should not be suppressed, since this is an important reflex for clearing the lungs. Some physicians advise taking expectorants, such as guaifenesin (Breonesin, Glycotuss, Glytuss, Hytuss, Naldecon Senior EX, Robitussin), to loosen sputum. For severe pain, codeine or other stronger pain relievers may be prescribed. It should be noted, however, that codeine and other narcotics suppress coughing, so they should be used with care in pneumonia and often require monitoring. Treating Infective Pneumonia Although the treatment for infective pneumonia depends on the cause of the condition, some simple steps can help speed recovery from pneumonia:
Treatments for aspiration pneumonia focus on breathing support. A breathing tube called an endotracheal tube is usually inserted into the trachea and oxygen is pumped into the lungs. Suction may be used to clear the airways and to get any remaining chemical or vomit out of the way. Antibiotics are given only if a secondary lung infection develops. Recovery From Pneumonia How well a person recovers from pneumonia depends on the type of pneumonia and the person's general health. Most people with pneumonia recover completely. However, in infants under one year of age, the elderly, and those who are already seriously ill, pneumonia can sometimes be fatal. ************* Hope you heal up soon Rick!:) |

Re: Heal and Restore Rick!
get better rick!
my dad had pnumonea really bad one year, in the middle of summer. he got it from taking this weird dietary supplement from GNC. i'm not kidding, it was very strange. he had to go to the hospital. he didn't know it was the dietary supplement until he started taking it again later and he started coming down with pnumonea again. he stopped taking it and he hasn't had it since. it's very strange. the ingredients were very weird and included things like bull testicles, after he looked at the ingredients. the FDA doesn't inspect those supplements, so you've got to be careful with them. |

Re: Heal and Restore Rick!
Stay positive Rick; surround yourself with good vibrations, and may you come out in great health.
'You Bring Light In!' I had pneumonia myself back in May '02. It started off as bronchitis, and since I didn't take care of myself, it got worse. I lost about 75% of my lung capacity at the time, but made a full recovery. My doctors pumped me full of antibiotics and steroids to get me well. Still I was in the hospital for 2 weeks, and took a few months to feel like myself again. --Jason |

my dad nearly died from a pneumonia which turned out to be veteran's disease (legionella bactery often turns up in hotelbathrooms, it is breathed in when you take a shower or bath. Warmwaterinstallations can get infected when the water isn't heated enough, there is often storage of a few liters.

Re: Heal and Restore Rick!
I don't post much, but I would like to add my best wishes to Underworld's other vocalist for a speedy recovery.
That the posters here are sending good wishes and more concerned about the well-being of a band member here instead of worrying about missed concerts reflects the great community of fans here. I think this is in no small part due to Underworld's excellent attitude towards their fans. It is clear that they value the fans greatly, and it is gratifying to see the fans reciprocate in kind - even though the circumstances themselves are not nice. |
Re: Heal and Restore Rick!

Rick, here's wishing you rest and a speedy recovery. Hope you feel better soon!
All the best from Chicago, Cathy |
Re: Heal and Restore Rick!
He needs Chest Physio! That will sort him out....
Pneumonia isn't usually fatal unless you get a REALLY nasty bug or are older/immunocompromised or something like that. He must be somewhat ill to be in hospital though. A bucketload of drugs usually sorts things out fairly well. Hope you get well soon Rick! |
Re: Heal and Restore Rick!
It seems that Rick rocked the Roundhouse so hard that his white blood cells were destroyed by the sheer amount of awesomeness, leaving his body prone to invasion. Looking forward to recieving my copy of the live show that brought down a whole immune system!
Get well, Ricky! |
Re: Heal and Restore Rick!

Re: Heal and Restore Rick!
Alright geeza. I hope Karl is sneaking in something better than Grapes as Hospital food is pretty dire!? Unless your Private and not NHS no doubt.
My Wifes Dad has been in and out of Hospital for many months now for Chemotherapy in Vilnius,Lithuania and for what i have seen we are pretty lucky with what we have in the UK. They wont switch the heating on out there unless the temperature falls under 10C for three days on the trot. The set up is under the old Soviet system. Hope you guys saw much of Lithuania on your tour as it's a very green and pleasent land. Anyway Rick keep your chin up and i hope you read all these messages from well wishers. (Hope the Nurses are eye candy!;) ) Keep it real  |
Re: Heal and Restore Rick!
Feel better, friend. :)

|
Re: Heal and Restore Rick!
Is Rick still hospitalized? Seems so from the UWLive postings......:(
Sending more prayers and well wishes you're way than you can even fucking handle Rick!:):):) |
Re: Heal and Restore Rick!
From today's posting, it sounds like maybe it's Karl who's in the hospital (or maybe just a doctor's?). Hopefully, it's nothing too serious.
Nice glitter shirts, BTW. Do they come in packs of 10? |
Re: Heal and Restore Rick!
I was wondering if we might be getting snippets and pieces of text here and there that are the thoughts and images captured in words by Rick.
|
Re: Heal and Restore Rick!
Recent comments seem to be the thoughts of Rick. Its been a while since he was taken ill, hope he's feeling a lot better and taking his time before coming back to what he does best:)
|
Re: Heal and Restore Rick!
I wonder if Rick's experience with pneumonia, if we can confirm that is what he's been receiving treatment for, is comparable to what Jason Pierce(aka J. Spaceman/Spiritualized) underwent a year back or so.
As I recall, with Pierce he was sidelined for more than a year and was close to death at a couple of points. |
