Riverrun On Disc
I confess to slight disappointment with OWB. Not because I dislike the music, but rather because I really loved most of Riverrun and was hoping that some of it would appear in real physical CD form as part of the new album.
Has the possibility of a physical release of Riverrun ever been mentioned? I would gladly shell out more than a few shekels for a two- or three-disc set containing the Riverrun suite. |

You have both, and you think that would be 'good enough' ;) |

sounds like someone's porridge is too hot. or was it too cold?

Re: Riverrun On Disc
i thought i heard them once in a broadcast or interview that physical copies will eventually appear. besides, i doubt they'd let it hang there at simply 192. stuff just takes time. uwlive is set to explode with shop goodies it seems only a matter of time.
i suppose i'd be a bit ticked off seeing as how i paid a little over $9 for each one already, but i'd probably bite the bullet and pay an extra.... 30? maybe 40 at the very most. at any rate it'd be kind of a rip. |
Re: Riverrun On Disc
Peachtree is on Croc single as a b-sdie. Surely we should be pissed off there is not a fresh slab of meat to hear. Me? Not really, Riverrun was more for the hardcore fan and will sell more when more people get the new album.

Re: Riverrun On Disc
would definitely be cool to have riverrun cd's for sale trough the online shop. Then again, I don't really actually listen to cd's anymore anyway. It just get's rippped to 192k mp3's anyway. :)

Re: Riverrun On Disc
With minimal editing and a lil mixing, all 3 RiverRuns fit on one 80 minute CD. Problem solved! ;)
I prefer higher quality mp3s as much as the next guy, but i still don't understand the complaints with the 192 kbs riverrun downloads. For me, those releases will always be special, awaiting the day they appeared on uwlive. But they are in-betweens - not the physical album. They are more experimental, as KArl mentioned in interviews. |
Re: Riverrun On Disc
I'd love to get unmixed versions, come to think of it. RiverStops anyone?

yeah, it was up there for a while...couldn't resist... besides, i just got them all on vinyl also.. i prefer those, for the extra tracks, and the covers/packaging.. later -1 |
Re: Riverrun On Disc
I'm fine with the mp3s, although I'd be happer with FLAC. I like the way they approached digital releases with the riverrun project becuase it came with the photos and extra content that didn't make sense in the CD world - it kind of changed my perspective on digital distribution.

Re: Riverrun On Disc
Aside from the sound quality, I think a significant part of the appeal of an UW physical CD release is the style and care that goes into the way it's packaged and presented. Most UW discs (even the singles) are put together in a way that makes them satisfying to hold and own, and not just for the hard core fan. They're thingular.

all that could have easily been placed on the cd, as an enhanced extra...i don't think it had to be digital only. why wouldn't that make sense? -1 |

Let me put it this way - with the extra content in the digital release I feel satisfied in filling the hole left by not having a physical product. In the physical release the packaging is the context, where here that context (or same type of experience) shifts to the digital world. Remember the Daft Club player? That thing was total junk. |
Re: Riverrun On Disc
well, in contrast, i didn't like riverrun all that much. i felt that it was all incomplete studio tracks- none of them stood out to me at all, really. i was disappointed by them. however, from what i've heard from the new album, it is much much better in comparison- and i'm looking forward to opening the mailbox on 15 Oct.

Re: Riverrun On Disc
After buying it once as a digital release, if we got some sort of discount buying the physical release you can sign me up

but this is tomato we're talking about here, i really enjoyed the extras on the 'everything, everything' dvd, and also they've done multimedia in the past: from : http://www.lowculture.com/transmissi...rd/disco2.html (yeah, its an old link) a cd-rom has been released, "Anti-ROM," which covers the various multimedia productions of the group. If you have shockwave installed, proceed to this macromedia-enhanced site, www.antirom.com. i'm pretty sure if they had the time, they could have put together something just as eloquent for it. later -1 |
Re: Riverrun On Disc
Although I would like to have riverrun as cd(rom), I think we forget that for them it was a web based idea. Produce tracks, put them on the web to spread and get direct reactions through the boards. That's what karl tells in each and every interview. Kinda arty concept thingy or something ;)

Re: Riverrun On Disc
ok,
since i've been out of it for awhile now, what was the reception of the riverrun on vinyl series? did it do ok? did most people ignore it? did a few fans get it? i'm wondering how well those mixes were recieved? i'm enjoying them a lot now, because i finally got them on vinyl.. later -1 |
Re: Riverrun On Disc
as a post script to this thread, i wasn't sure if anyone was aware that all of the vinyl only released river run remixes are available at Beatport as digital downloads,
https://www.beatport.com/ including all three pig & dan mixes of Play Pig, if no one has these i'd suggest going over to Beatport and picking them up.... |
Re: Riverrun On Disc
hey, -1
long time no see but from what I recall about the RiverRun 12" -es; the 'set' was pretty 'well received'... most fans either bought them through hmv.co.jp or had to wait untill they were released in the UK I wouldn't say that any of the tracks were massively played out... like - there wasn't a rush for a specific 'banging mix'... but you would find the "Play Pig" or the Vanilla Monkey mixes popping up in random dj sets |
Re: Riverrun On Disc
I'm good with them as they were - I saw them as musical sketches that the boys wanted us to all hear, and so tossed them out for a few bucks. I don't think they need to be on disc, I'd certainly consider buying it but I think that asking for them to be on disc is kind of like asking for all the many many other random jams, intro/outros and mashes to be on disc, there's really no need as it's all just more material to enjoy.

Re: Riverrun On Disc
i agree, that some of the tracks were definitely 'in progress' works,
but overall, including the mixes, i think these were better overall than the current OWB... in fact, i find myself listening to these more now.. later -1 |
