Buying OWB / oblivion with bells pricelist/online availability

on the genesis forums we have a useful thread for the prices and variations (vinyl, cd, cassette) and locations of upcoming genesis releases online. i thought we ought to start a thread about this, and the first post should have the release date....

but what is the release date?

and i don't see it on sale on line anywhere.

maybe this thread can be added on to with useful links!

Re: oblivion with bells pricelist/online availability

Crocodile (japanese single):
http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%AF%E3...8752126&sr=8-1
http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/2597050
both 7.94 Euro

Oblivion with Bells (japanese edition with bonus track but without bonus DVD):
http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%AA%E3...8752266&sr=8-1
http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/2597048
both 15.88 Euro

Oblivion with Bells (japanese edition with bonus track and with bonus DVD):
http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%82%AA%E3...8752266&sr=8-2
18.00 Euro
http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/2601430
21.18 Euro

I'd buy the OWB with DVD and the single. Estimated delivery for both stores is 3rd of October. Crocodile is released earlier but i can wait the two weeks and save some shipping costs. I've got the promo anyway. :)

Total for OWB and Crocodile:
hmv.co.jp to Germany: 5900 Yen (37.19 Euro) (including 1500 Yen shipping)
amazon.co.jp to Germany: 7220 Yen (45.51 Euro) (including 3300 Yen shipping)
I guess the shipping costs are the same for UK. In addition you might have to pay customs (around 7€ in Germany).

...so that makes hmv.co.jp the winner (for now). Does anyone have experience buying there?

Re: oblivion with bells pricelist/online availability

I bought all the Riverrun vinyls from hmv.co.jp last year, and they shipped very quickly. But they did send me an e-mail cause they had to confirm a slightly higher shipping rate. Some people missed the e-mail, and they won't ship until they get a response from you.

If I remember correctly...

when both Primal Scream & UW released their greatest hits/singles collections in Japan - they each came with a dvd of videos

and the dvd's weren't region free

Re: oblivion with bells pricelist/online availability

The DVD is supposed to have the Crocodile music video and a "30 Min. photo journal"

So the Crocodile single is supposed to be out in 1 week, and we still don't know the track listing?

Re: oblivion with bells pricelist/online availability

Is there any way of getting OWB Japanese edition (+DVD) without going through HMV.co.jp? Basically I'm looking for a way I can buy it without using a credit card. Ever since my MasterCard got skimmed by an online retailer, I prefer sticking to Switch/Maestro/PayPal!

Re: oblivion with bells pricelist/online availability

I think we know the track listing, it'd just the promo without the LP version:
1) Crocodile (single mix)
2) Crocodile (Pete Heller mix)
3) Crocodile (Huntemann mix)
4) Crocodile (Huntemann dub)

Here it says - 4. Pete Heller Dub http://www.music.co.jp/mobile/yougaku/uw/index.html
So which one is it? :)

Also, the album is 57:21 according to this site (excluding the Japanese bonus track).

This was mentioned in the translation (incorrect?) of the track-by-track review here:
http://www.aloha.com/~tabanger/obliviontracksen.html

57 minutes? Yeah, i'd hoped it would be longer. But as long as it's a quality 57 minutes, no worries!

i really dont mind. i'm not paying money for a certain amount of music, i'm paying for a cohesive, well done album.

Is it me or do the boys look dressed for their own funeral? I hope this isn't symbolic for things happening with 'owb' ad/marketing campaign (or lack of it, as it were).

The niche market plan better work, or they'll have to go back to making sounds for automobile ads.

57:21? It's their shortest album yet. :( I'm hoping the quality will make up for it.

I must say, though, I was kind of hoping for a 24-minute-long, dark, experimental, ambient piece. With some spoken word stuff here or there, just for good measure.

This week's SF version of the Onion has a write-up for the shows on Fri and Sat and the above linked image was used. I found it a bit odd.

Re: oblivion with bells pricelist/online availability

Amazon.com has OWB listed for pre-order...both cd only and w/DVD versions. And a review/description of sorts

Quote:

After a five-year hiatus, Underworld return with an album that draws from across their past. With a mix of aggression and sunshine, they calculate syncopated, ricocheted beats against cleanly delineated textures and circumscribed melodies that have the cool of the 1980s New Romantic movement from which they originally sprang as Freur. Kraftwerk is in the DNA of their sound, but they've moved well past that, incorporating elements of hip-hop and industrial music into the mix. I wonder if Underworld's later mix of poetic spoken-word songs affected Brian Eno's recent work with poetry and music, because the influence seems to have boomeranged back in the vocal cadences of tracks such as "Ring Road." Like some of Eno's work, Karl Hyde's frequently treated, monotone talk-singing vocals could have been time-shifted from a beat-poetry reading of the early '60s. The only thing missing is the bongos. When his voice is processed, it merges as part of the sound field, but when his voice is relatively unaltered, as on "Good Morning Cockerel," it just becomes tedious. The best tracks on Oblivion with Bells are also the most ambitious. "Crocodile" has some lovely, almost Gregorian harmonies, while "Beautiful Burnout" is an epic journey with broad synthesizer chords sweeping by like headlights before segueing into a joyfully ritualistic electro-percussion tribal workout. But after that pair of opening tracks, you have to wait until the very last piece, a long, trancey bit of psychedelic drift called "The Best Mamgu Ever," to hear something more than unformed melodies and unstrung ideas. Underworld can reach higher ground. --John Diliberto

Not that it should necessarily matter, but this guy is about 70 years old, so I take his opinion with a certain degree of skepticism.

Thanks for these! Nice to know and i can feel the buzz. But, as for the Japanese single of "crocodile" $16 for what's likely a 2-song CD (edit and OH remix), errr...i'll just wait for the full album. :)

Buying OWB

Anyone have any ideas on purchasing the "most complete" copy of OWB? I would like to get both the extra track (Japan only release) as well as the DVD. Best retailers/e-tailors to use?

I have a feeling I will need to buy 2 copies...especially to get a DVD that is coded properly for the US.

Re: Buying OWB

I preordered the Japanese 2 disc edition from www.hmv.co.jp
It's out 3rd of October there.
Then I'll buy the special edition again when it's released here (if I have some money left... I'm just a poor student :o) just to support the band...
