Denver show now at the Fillmore Auditorium

SCRATCH this... just had ticketmast recall the previous email... Anyone know what is going on?

Just got the following email from ticketmaster.

"UNDERWORLD/PAUL OAKENFOLD scheduled at RED ROCK AMPHITHEATRE on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2007, at 7:30PM, has changed to a new venue. The event will now take place at the FILLMORE AUDITORIUM same time & date."

While bummed they won't be playing Red Rocks I am still excited to see them at the Fillmore. Any ideas why they moved the show? Hopefully they'll keep the outdoor venue in in NY.

See you in Denver.

curious, to say the least.

Re: Denver show moved!

Yeah, this is really odd. I got both the notification and retraction too, and various ticketmaster/red rocks web sites say different things, including the availability of a $50 underworld/chemical brothers ticket.

If they moved it to the much crappier fillmore, I'm going to be upset.

I called the red rocks box office, and told them about the email and the retraction, and they didn't even know what was going on. Somebody really screwed up. I'm hoping that when they added the chemical bros./underworld combo ticket, they accidentally put underworld at the wrong venue, but that they are still playing red rocks.

My $10.30 convenience charge at work. I hate ticketmaster.

If this show moves, I'm considering cancelling my flight.
I mean Underworld at RED ROCKS - THAT's the show to see .
I hope they reconsider this move - if it has been ...

UW live Denver @ Red Rocks - What venue?

Ok - so I just got an email from ticketmaster saying that the UW concert on 9/11 in Denver has been moved to the Filmore Auditorium - but then I got another email saying that their system would like to "recall the message" - I'm seeing all manner of conflicting reports now as to where the concert is, all I'm hoping is that I don't get screwed here, because I was planning on getting to Red Rocks as early as possible to camp out and be front and center for the concert - has anyone else heard anything?

Re: Denver show moved!

This is total bullshit. I've got 5 friends from SF who are flying out specifically to see this show, many of them taking unpaid vacation time. They bought their tickets before the SF shows were announced, and bought airfare, hotel, and rented a car on top of the Underworld tickets.

They could have seen Underworld at a Fillmore-quality venue in San Francisco, but they wanted to see a favorite legendary band at a legendary venue.

As a Denver-area native, I was looking forward to introducing my friends to a piece of my heritage, and now they're just going to see the dump-ass Fillmore and East Colfax hookers instead of the grandeur of a sunset Red Rocks show.

We paid for a Red Rocks show, not a Fillmore show. We should get at least a partial refund. This is total horseshit. My opinion of the band has taken a huge negative hit. I don't care if it's the promoter's fault, the venue's fault, whatever, these are people hired by the band, and ultimately it all goes back to them.

Boo on Underworld for this. They really let the 7 of us way down.

Edit: Seriously, guys, when you fuck someone it's considered polite to ask permission first.

unless you got any proof that UW requested the change of location (and as i see it, atm nobody knows anything for sure), why not STFU before insulting them?

Re: Denver show moved!

I agree, mr_chip. The fillmore totally sucks compared to Red Rocks. I also found out that I could have saved about $40 per ticket getting the Underworld/Chemical Brothers combo tickets instead of buying them separately. So not only am I getting fucked by the venue change, I'm getting fucked by the new combo ticket that they won't let me get.

$40 x 3 tickets = $120 I'm getting outright fucked on, plus the fact that they're both at the crappy Fillmore. FUCKING BULLSHIT!!!!!!!

Underworld, Chemical Brothers, Live Nation, Ticketmaster, fuck you all (especially the latter, but the performers have to take some responsibility for performing where they promised and not fucking over their audience).

-and, yes, I just received an un-retracted Ticketfucker Alert:

Re: Denver show moved!

Okay, so maybe I'm a little hasty getting mad at the band, but the disappointment in this news is pretty big.

If you're interested in sending out an executive e-mail carpet bomb, here's the list of every address I can find so far for livenation (who appear to be the promoters) and the even remotely possibly applicable addresses from the Friends of Underworld section of the underworldlive site:

inquire@chaotica.com
underworld@thesundayclub.com
press@underworldlive.com
jukes@easynet.co.uk
sales@underworldlive.com
johnvlautin@livenation.com
BusinessIntegrity@LiveNation.com
michaelrapino@livenation.com
alanridgeway@livenation.com
michaelgrowles@livenation.com
thomasjohansson@livenation.com
carlpernow@livenation.com
bryanperez@livenation.com
davidian@livenation.com
leeanngliha@livenation.com

You're much more likely to get results (either a discount on your ticket or an official apology, or some kind of renumeration) by sending a politely worded e-mail to these addresses, than you are by dealing with livenation's crummy RightNow customer service website. This list includes the e-mail addresses of all executive staff at LiveNation, CEOs and Presidents.

Here's the Google Finance chat board for LYN, LiveNation's public trading ticker:
http://finance.google.com/group/goog....703637/topics

Here's the Yahoo Finance chat board for the same:
http://messages.finance.yahoo.com/mb/LYV

If you post intelligently on their financial boards about how they're not able to sell enough tickets to make their commitments to bands or fans, thus lowering their status in the eyes of both, you'll definitely hit them where it hurts. You'll probably also catch the attention of their Investor Relations people, who will definitely be watching those boards, and who will definitely be interested in making it right for you.

Happy hunting.

Re: Denver show moved!

i can't put the blame on rick, karl et al.. they aren't the ones doing the bookings.

that said though.... this is a serious disappointment to a LOT of people. and no price refund or any consideration whatsoever to those of us who bought much more expensive tickets? that's terrible.

there's no inclement weather forecast for tuesday, and if the band was having trouble selling seats, the promoters/etc would have known that months ago. and it's not like this is a comparable venue - it's apples and oranges. waiting until 2 days before the gig to announce such a significant venue change is extremely poor form.

I agree with Mr Chip, for the reasons previously stated. This is a HUGE let down, with NO apparent good reason.
Ticket sales maybe?
I'm praying this isn't about money ...
I spent a lot to see Underworld at Red Rocks.

If Underworld have not sold enough tickets then they need to switch venues. This happened last year in Helsinki. Don't blame Underworld for this.

I hope at this point that rick and karl is reading this or has been made aware of the situation. Hopefully they can stand up to the promoters and request (demand) that the show goes on as planned at Red Rocks. I am sure they themselves know the difference between the venues.

Here's hoping to another recalled email from ticketmaster telling us they fucked up.

Either way I will be there, it will be memorable none the less. Maybe they'll give us a special 3+ hour set?!!??? for all our troubles. Tickets booked, bags are packed. Time to ride the sky waves in search of good vibes.

... and they better not move the fucking NYC show.

AAaaaahhhhgg!!! This is TWICE (in a row) that I've flown out of Seattle for an outdoor UW show and have been disappointed. The last time was when they played in N.J. at Giants stadium....now THIS! This one is hurting a lot more for some reason.

Of course I'm not gonna cancel my travel plans (flight, hotel, car) but DAMN! Why can't these promoters get it together?!?

BTW: The Red Rocks site says that ticket prices will remain the same. $50 at the door. The ONLY thing that I'm hoping comes out of this would be to have the Chems open instead of Crapenfold. The only info on that is what I've gleaned off this thread. I'll go check the relative sites in a sec. For now: "Hey S.F. folks! Wanna party?" :-)

5 minutes of online research reveal that LiveNation Denver just had all their top staff headhunted away by Regal Promotions group, and LiveNation is ending their relationship with Ticketmaster in 2008. If you want to post a message on their discussion board on Yahoo discussing these items in the context of their inability to maintain venue commitments in the Denver market, you'll hit them where it hurts the most.

Please, please keep your communication civil. You're much more likely to get results with politely worded, rational messages than you are with "OH MY GOD YOU SUCK!!!" venting like what I pulled back on page 1.

graphex 09-08-2007 07:34 PM

Re: Denver show now at the Fillmore Auditorium

I think a great way to drive sales for concert tickets is to schedule a performance at Red Rocks, and then switch the venue 3 days before the show to something less desirable. The classic bait-and-switch. What a shill...

I got my tickets in April, and was looking forward to Red Rocks all summer. I feel conned. If they weren't going to fill the venue and had to change, that is great, but tell us sooner. Give us time to get a refund, to reschedule. If I would have found this out last week, I'd send my tickets back for both Underworld and Chemical Brothers, get the refund, and buy the combo ticket. $50 for two concerts at the Fillmore is acceptable, but getting conned into spending $82 for tickets + $18.80 in fees is criminal.

And yes, I sound much more professional when I contact non-fans than here. I think you fans can handle venting better than, say 9 news tiplines. Whoever posted to the Yahoo financial site did well too.

Doubt the band is going to read this stuff... aren't they performing right now? They might read something tomorrow. I doubt there is anything they could do, other than rock the house especially hard on Tuesday. Or free t-shirts.

The Fillmore's not bad though. Excellent sound system. There's oodles of room to dance, why you could bring some cardboard boxes and be able to windmill.

i've dreamed of Underworld at Red Rocks for years now. i almost planned a special mid-week vacation for it too. glad i didn't.

the worst part i see about this is no reason being given for the switch? i'm dying to know why it was switched. the Fillmore is not a small place by any means, so i can't imagine ticket sales would be an issue.

Well, that was fast. Just got this back from the CEO of livenation:

Quote:

Sorry to hear your disappointment about the venue change - I am not close enough to this one to know why so I have cc J____ G_____ who is our president of North America and he will look into and get you the proper answer.
As the promoter we work for the band - we don’t change venues unless the band, the manager, agent and promoter have all discussed and agreed the chance is needed.

I will let J____ and our local Denver team provide more clarity. We work for the artist and fan sorry you are disappointed I will gladly refund your tickets if this show no longer appeals to you
Which nicely sidesteps the "Hey, my friends are flying in from fucking San Francisco to see this, how are you going to make it right to them?" issue I raised in my civil e-mail to him, but shows that someone is listening at LiveNation. It'll be interesting to watch the blame get passed around, I'll keep you guys posted.

This was an interesting article. I remember hearing people tell me that when I saw Daft Punk, I was just seeing two guys playing them on stage. I don't think that DP would do that - to have such a massive stage setup and not show up to play themselves would just be silly - but with someone like MF Doom, it almost seems like he's just playing a part, and his fans are his audience. If he did do all of what this article says, that's just wack. You have to always, always remember that your fans are damn important. I'm glad that UW has always done a lot for their fans. I'm sure we'll still get a rocking show at the Filmore.

Re: Denver show now at the Fillmore Auditorium

This is an e-mail that I have just sent to everyone listed on the 2nd page of this thread. I am so unhappy right now. :(

Quote:

An Open Letter to the management, organizers, and promoters of the Red Rocks / Underworld event.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to you to voice my extreme displeasure about the recent venue change for the upcoming Underworld show. I boarded a plane today at 4:51PM on the very Southern border, at the tip of Texas, to fly to Denver to have one very special and memorable night: seeing Underworld perform at Red Rocks.

I have never been to the Red Rocks amphitheater, I have only heard the stories and the “oh my God’s” when referring to the memories that are made there. I have never seen Underworld live. I have been following the group for such a long time, that I can’t even remember. As a DJ and event producer for the past 11 years, I understand whole heartedly about venue change. However, to move this show to another location takes away a great deal of the “Experience” that goes along with the entire event; at least for me.

When I first heard about this show, I looked at the tour dates and had only two options in my mind. I had never been to Red Rocks, and I have never been to Central Park. Both places were being saved for an extremely special occasion. This was, and is, that occasion. The event at its scheduled setting, was to be such a spectacular combination of music and venue, that it captured the hearts of so many music lovers from my home state. I personally was eager to share this experience with a dear friend, who’s flight arrives at my expense, tomorrow morning. There is a caravan of friends on their way here from Austin this weekend as well. Now, it seems, that this special occasion will be transformed into nothing more than a normal event, inside some over crowded venue, with a lack of atmosphere that I was eagerly awaiting.

I cannot gather the words to express my discontent. I hope that whatever reason this decision was made, that it is an extremely good one, and not just financial.
This has, without a doubt, cast a shadow on what was to be, and hopefully still might be, a defining moment in my love and passion of electronic music.
