John Warwicker: The Floating World

ok... I'm reeeeealy confused here.

I remember this was supposed to be released AGES ago. Like maybe even before the UW greatest hits (or even to coincide w/ the release of In the Belly of St Paul) Then online stores like Amazon kept pushing back the release date over and over again

and if I remember correctly, the book was even moved by amazon into my 'wish list' b/c there was (eventually) no set release date

then, I was 'cleaning up' my shopping cart on Amazon, and I accidentally clicked on the link for the book

...lo and behold - someone's actually selling a copy as "Used - Like New"
but was it ever released?

...and they're actually selling the book for $136.00:eek:

so - was the book released, and announced on the forums, but I just somehow missed it?

or - was the book released, but sort of 'under the radar' even for us dirties?

http://www.steidlville.com/books/214...d-Ukiyo-e.html
says "Publication date: September 2007"

but maybe you could try some of these sellers instead of amazon?
edit: or even better these for UK

Re: John Warwicker: The Floating World

thanks for the links

but it still sort of begs the question

why was it delayed for sooooooooo long and - if it is being published next month, why no announcement, etc for us dirties?

...and well - if it's not published until next month, how are so many people selling it

Well, on the new Tomato site this article (click on the article title) has a few new pictures and says "summer 2008" for the release date. Also, it's 400 pages.

Re: John Warwicker: The Floating World

on that page this is john's reply:

Thanks for your numerous enquiries about when the book will finally be published.
The latest is early August.
The reason for the delay is rather convoluted. The book was finished 3 years ago.
I was visiting Australia with the family and planned to return to London with the
intention of then going to Germany, to Steidl, to supervise the printing. A couple
of domestic calamities extended the stay by several months and I simply missed
my ’slot’ in the ever-busy print schedule. Couple this with the added complexity
of its production (6 different paper stocks) and the fact that we had to move to
Melbourne meant that the whole process dragged on. And on, and on …

hope that helps

keepyour eyes peeled....

The latest word now is mid-Dec. for publication. For John's sanity's sake, I hope it makes it.

Received mine today. I was rather surprised by the package, as I couldn't figure out what it was at first.

It's a very beautiful book. Tons of different paper stock. Lots of great typography and photography and it's huge!

Mine arrived today as well. Looks nice, but haven't had time to really delve into it. So glad to have another "tomato project" in my hands though!

Got mine today. I'd almost forgotten I'd ordered it! It looks pretty amazing after a quick flick through it. I'm loving the range of stocks used. They really magnify the effects of photos/graphics.

Re: John Warwicker: The Floating World

only reason i havent sprung for this is because someone might have gotten a hint and/or seen my wishlist sometime in the last 5 years and finally got this for me.

So I was googling info on Mr. Warwicker's floating world and found this little jewel.

It may be posted somewhere else on here, but just in case, I thought I'd post it here for all to see.

Enjoy

Re: John Warwicker: The Floating World

Its up at Amazon.com and 44 seems like the right price... but its for the paperback version. I wonder if the hardcover is coming to America

txjaxx 12-15-2009 06:57 PM

Re: John Warwicker: The Floating World

There is no hardcover as far as I know. Certainly wasn't an option on the publisher's site. I don't think I've ever seen a hardcover Tomato book.

Re: John Warwicker: The Floating World

Less a book... more like a city of ideas on art

I wish it was more of an art experience

"A poem for robert motherwell" is beautiful... some other parts are not so much

This is a hardcover Tomato book...but only so it fits in with the rest of the Gas Book series I suppose.
