Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

Dirty producers unite and save the world with another song or remix compilation. Who's up for it?

King of Snake 08-01-2007 02:54 PM

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

I definitely would be up for that

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

I myself would prefer an all original song compilation, with a certain theme (like the last one was Summer). A remixing contest would be a cool idea too though. What do you guys think?

King of Snake 08-02-2007 12:15 AM

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

I'd vote for original songs.

Count me in...

Shall we aim for an autumn theme?

Or maybe something a bit more ambitious...like a "travel" theme...try to craft tunes with different worldwide influences?

yea, fuckit, ok. i won't sing on this one and i might take it seriously this time.

or i'll do a 30 min acid freakout.

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

i vote remix, as on original track was done last time.
why not switch, one year track, other year remix
as for remixing, buy a track at http://www.wolflambmusic.com/
register with these guys and you can download the soundfiles
been fooling around with track the itch by lee curtiss, fantastic that these guys do this, i can use my own remixes in my sets :)

what about it?
off course, we need more sites like this, coz we all have different musictastes

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

I vote double duty...One original track, one remix.

King of Snake 08-04-2007 12:41 PM

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

well, I think we could have a remix comp seperate from the original tracks comp. But I think it would be more interesting if everyone remixed the same track. Maybe we can convince Karl and Rick to write out a remix comp of one of the new tracks? Now that would be cool :)

holden 08-05-2007 03:18 PM

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

Respectfully disagree with the idea that everyone remixes the same track. yeah, everyone will have an interesting, maybe even dramatically different spin, but after hearing the same basic track remixed a bunch of times in a row on your average cd single, i usually find myself preferring the original!

I like the idea of an autumn or traveler themed original track!

I see your point, but I do think it would make more sense if you're gonna do a remix competition thing. I just don't see the sense in everyone doing random remixes, so in that case I would rather prefer everyone did original tracks.

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

Regarding the remix thing ... two people could swap tracks to remix ... always great to hear another artists interpratation of your own tracks, and you get to reciproacate and return the favour

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

I would like to contribute a track with an autumn or travelling theme.

Still interest in this?

I'm interested, and I'm all for a remix or an original track. Just let me know what it ends up being, and I'm in.

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

Still interested! is there enough momentum to get this going? Some decisions have to made about:

(a) original tracks or remixes (of UW or other dirties)
(b) submission date and to whom
(c) distribution? i'm guessing web hosting...who's got space and bandwidth to share?

I would be happy to submit album artwork. :)

Sorry guys, was on holiday for 10 days. Anyway, I prefer original tracks as I don't really wanna pay for samples (and I don't have a creditcard anyway) and I liked the last compilation.

I was about to say no theme, but I could be on board with it as long as it's a loose theme and not too limiting. If I had to choose theme or no theme though, I would lean towards no theme personally. Just original tracks by an eclectic group of musicians.

oooh, can i play too? although i'm very amateur at this kind of thing, but it would give me good reason to dust off my keyboard and guitar and play a little more extensively with garage band and reason... i don't sing very well though, but i have written alot of lyrics...

Ok, theme will be "dreamgirl, I'm desperate for you".

Tracks have to be finished and sent in on sunday the 23rd of September.

Now, who provides webspace?

And of course, anyone who wants to join in, give a shout!

Sounds like a plan! Will that be the title of the compilation (kinda reminiscent of Mmm, Skyscraper, i love you")? Dig it!

Should we try to keep the tracks under a certain length? I guess there's no rule that they have to fit on a single CD if someone wants to do a long one, although if i recall from the "Sounds for a Dirty Summer" comp., there was a fear that folks would submit 25 minutes of improvised noises (not necessarily a bad thing, but maybe not fair if others are sticvking to short and polished).

Let's do a max. of 8 minutes.

Anyway, if anyone has better ideas, please tell me. I'm just making rules so to get the ball rolling. Otherwise we'd still be discussing this next month.

well, I probably won't be able to make that end date, what with a little New York trip coming up in between.... ;)

I'll do my best though.

yeah, i have a ten-day trip (including to NYC for Underworld!) coming up. But i'll try my darnedest to get my track in!

How're people doing with this? I'm having trouble being inspired by the theme...torn on whether to make it ambient or very dancey/heavy!

I had a couple false starts, but ended up with a track that I'm well underway with. I toyed with the idea of doing something dancey too....always nice to watch your dreamgirl dance....but I ultimately went with more of a sexy sound. Sort of a dubby mid-tempo track with a full, lazy bass line. The great thing is that I can still picture the ol' dreamgirl dancing to it, just not the same kind of dance I was thinking originally. Personally, I think this dance is much better ;) .

So I should be able to make the deadline, but would it be a good idea to extend a bit so we can get everyone's tracks in for a proper compilation? Wouldn't bother me at all if we did.
