Dirtyradio NOT going away for a while...

So I've been running dirtyradio for quite some time now and I need a bit of a break. On Friday I'll be putting together a special Best Of/Farewell Show in the morning - details are forthcoming. After Friday we will no longer be broadcasting.

Thanks everyone for your support of the station throughout the years. It's been fun. :)

Re: Dirtyradio going away for a while...

hey scott, i am curious what it takes to run Dirty Radio on a daily basis? i'm curious if this is something that could be run by others. is it the work that goes into it, the money required or the proposed legislation attempting to fleece net radio?

how long do you spend per day/per week maintaining dirty radio?

Scott Warner 06-11-2007 03:42 PM

Re: Dirtyradio going away for a while...

It's not really the money or impending legislation - it's my time. Dirtyradio has been handpicked by me for the duration it's been up and I'm not really interested in continuing on in some form that I don't control. It boils down to this: in my day job I make a lot of compromises - in my spare time projects I make none.

At the moment I don't have the time to sort through the music like I'd like and I don't have the time to handle the logistics, administration and expansion of the radio. So, I'm going to turn it off for a while. :)

I will miss it, even if this is only temporary. I'll keep it in my playlist in hope of a resurrection!

thanks for all your work, Scott!

That really is a shame because I'm sure there are capable people here willing to gove their time for the community. i'll miss it.

Any chance it might resurface from time to time to broadcast a lemonworld jam or will those be moving over to the underworldlive site?

Scott,

Amoeba Music and various other music outlets thanks you for helping me to spend 1000's of dollars in their stores based on what I heard on Dirtyradio. I really am in your debt for helping me to find music that I genuinely enjoy. I sincerely hope that you will be back someday, until then, a million thanks and good luck with all your endeavors.

p.s.- any suggestions for an online radio station to help me kick my Dirtyradio fix?

[COLOR=Indigo]Thank you so much Scott for the past years of Dirtyradio.
Much respect and appreciation for your decision.
I am a bit sad about this, it feels like the end of an era.
I'll miss your voice, and Shane's, Matt's, Yan's, every one's!. A lot less connection with Dirtyworld somehow...

that's a real shame. I discovered artists like Abfarht Hinwil, Explosions in the Sky, Leandro Fresco, Telefon Tel Aviv and so many other with this station...

Re: Dirtyradio going away for a while...

Scott, one thing I've always been curious about and perhaps you can share this with us now, but how much music, or rather, how many tracks and different artist reside in the dirtyradio archive cache that is being played.

I understand if replying to this message with specific figures and numbers could end up being used as evidence in potential impending litigation, but I've always been curious over the years as dirtyradio has turned me onto so much new music, but especially in light of the past few days with the impending shut down I've been scribbling down artist and titles on a legal pad at my desk at work listening to the stream.

Dirty Radio is the first time I ever heard "The Horse" by Marshall Jefferson which led me to buy Annex 2 on Tresor which also has the amazing "Alright" by Savvas Ysatis on it. Both of those tracks are great to listen to while driving.

I've been really surprised by the amount of nice comments we've received here, via email and through our MySpace page. I might have to work something out... I'll give it some thought.

I'm the same way with artist info, except I'm a paperless nerd and keep a .txt doc with them all on it. Then I print and take it to the shops to completely blow my paycheck. :D

I used to keep a text document open on my desktop when listening at home listing what I had heard on a specific day and then putting the titles in bold when I had acquired said artist or track.

oh ya, well i'm so nerdy that i had a program that would parse the artist and track name on the stream and compare it to current video (using a macbook pro) of how much i am hodding my head and then it automatically orders the cd off amazon for me!

(not really, but that would be pretty hilarious)

Nice one Scott.

If you need any help I'm sure some folks would be happy to lend a hand time-wise / serverwise / etc....

Just post a message.

Cheers,

BTW, since I won't pull Dirtyradio down tonight I also won't be doing a "last show" today. Actually that's a convienient cover for "I was going to do the show today but now I have to be in to work at 7:30am".

Re: Dirtyradio going away for a while...

Damn, listening to Dirtyradio at random gives me so much great new music.
Some tracks I discovered from it:

GUITAR - SUNKISSED
SCSI-9 - DEEP & FAX
ARTHUR RUSSEL - SPRINGFIELD (DFA REMIX)
Strategy - Running On Empty
Jimmy Edgar - My Beats
Cursor Miner - This Is Electro
Rootsix - One Of Those Things
Chromeo - Needy Girl

Seeing only this short list is proof of how versatile Dirtyradio is. It's awesome.
