Songs for a Fashion Show?
A friend of mine asked me to DJ her art show/fashion show. I was wondering if anyone had any outstanding ideas for runway music? You know: sexy, strutting, darker would be good too since the clothes are kind of cybergoth-ish. I'm definately looking for something that isn't played in the gothclub atmosphere all the time.

Re: Songs for a Fashion Show?
I'm totally serious: Marilyn Manson's cover of "I Put a Spell on You". I heard a stripper dance to this once and I would have married her.

Re: Songs for a Fashion Show?
I have a dream... to DJ a stripper club for just on night.
. . . . . . . . . . . ahh..... and peace to the world also.:D |
Re: Songs for a Fashion Show?
The more I think about it, the more I wish my production/writing skills were up to the challenge of making something new.
Last night, on my radioshow, I tried some stuff out but I'm still not sure what to play. So far I have Goldfrapp-Ride a White Horse (FK-EK vocal) and maybe something from Product 01 in mind. But who knows I'll probably decide tonight I don't like those songs anymore. Thanks for the suggestions so far. |
Re: Songs for a Fashion Show?
ok ... wow - I get to finally boast about this!!! (this happened like 2/3 years ago, and it has NEVER come up in an appropriate venue)
I actually dated a stripper. yes, for a couple of months although - I should clarify, she had stopped stripping by the time we dated, but she and I were friends for quite a while when she was still working. It was kind of one of those deals where she had this real dick of a boyfriend, and we'd go running or hangout all the time (not knowing that we both had a thing for each other) we eventually broke up b/c she lived in Chicago, I lived in DC... and it got a bit stressful. We still hung out quite a lot... until she started dating this Egyptian guy (as in - he came to the US from Egypt for school) who outright forbade her from speaking to me... which totally sucks :( [and like... when we have been in social situations with mutual friends, we can talk - if the douche isn't there.. but like there can be no candid photos that happen to have both of us in them but anyways... about tracks for a show -> American Gigolo III - Mixed & Compiled By Princess Superstar International Deejay Gigolos CD Ten - an unmixed compilation by Dj Hell (tons of tracks that you could use for a darker fashion/art show... trust me) another album with a bunch of use-able tracks would be Zombie Nation - Black Toys and individual tracks... Prince - Erotic City the Rakes - We Danced Together (SebastiAn Remix) Klaxons - The Bouncer (South Central Bootleg) Simian Mobile Disco - It's the Beat New Young Pony Club - The Bomb (phones edit) pretty much anything you can get by Surkin, Boys Noize, Digitalism, MSTRKRFT (especially their remixes of otehr bands) |

the parliament/geo clinton cover/remux of this is brilliant too! on of my favorite songs of all time |
Re: Songs for a Fashion Show?
I don't think I've heard that version... just the extended mix
any chance you could upload it onto like megaupload? (although... more that I think about it... I have a vague idea about how this song sounds - I might've heard it before I even heard Prince's original... was it featured in a movie maybe? Like "PCU"?) |
Re: Songs for a Fashion Show?
ya. i'll upload it when i get home...
|
Re: Songs for a Fashion Show?
I dated a stripper for a while too. I got her to dance to Pigface's- Hips, Tits, Lips, Power one night at the club. It was awesome.
I'll check some of these out tonight, I've been itchin for new music lately and this is a great excuse. |
Re: Songs for a Fashion Show?
The International Deejay Gigolos CDs look great, though I'm having trouble finding 10 so far.

Re: Songs for a Fashion Show?
hey JTL. Here is that erotic city song done by parliament... it's rocking good times!
http://music.yahoo.com/ar-303776---George-Clinton (look at erotic city, version 2 (version 1 is the same thing, just poorer quality) anyhow, i can't get the actual mp3 off my computer right now (a server at home) so let me know if you want it |
Re: Songs for a Fashion Show?
(after checking the video)
HAAA! it WAS in a movie, and I was even right about the movie!!! (PCU) |
Re: Songs for a Fashion Show?
hahahah. that's great... this is one of the first mp3's i ever got. honestly got it from a friend on a zip disk around 96 or something, you can tell cause the maker of the file is still sound amp or mac amp or something from mac os 7 days...
omg! |
Re: Songs for a Fashion Show?
oh yea... I remember Mac Amp
it had a horrible color scheme, or at least the version I had was bad, it was all grey and like flourescent blue/green |
Re: Songs for a Fashion Show?
yup! that's the one i had too... glad the days of themeing is pretty much over
anyhow... use this song... it's so hilarious! "we can funk until the dawn" HAHAHHA |
Re: Songs for a Fashion Show?
Just as update to those who made suggestions, the show's this friday and the set's really shaping up. I found the International Deejay Gigolos CD Ten very helpful. If anyone's interested I'll post the finished product saturday. Its a little electro and a little industrial and I'm fairly pleased with it.
|
Re: Songs for a Fashion Show?
yea - that'd be great to hear the finished product
and sorry - I would've just sent you the mp3's off of Gigolo 10, I completely forgot about this thread |
