Darc
This is an appreciation thread. I Luv it SOOO much.
Seems as if the title is absolutely "Darc"... the archive has been updated. oh yeah and there is a clip of this song in the ps2 tomato title, wordimagesoundplay (released 17 March 2004) Which means this baby has been sitting around for quite some time... I am DYING to hear the final version. |
Re: Darc
Darc, Shake That Higher, All The Things In Me, Globe, 5 Ft Five...
They should all be on the album in some way... They should put All The Things In Me on the album just like it was played at Cocoon. I love All The Things. |
Re: Darc
I've been listening to this on a pretty constant loop today at work.
I'm now torn between my liking of this track and All These Things as my new favorite live tracks. Though All These Things from the Zurich show in 05 has some wonderful bits that are lacking in the Cocoon performance. |
Re: Darc
I totally agree with leon - all these things is sooooo beautiful:)
|
Re: Darc
can someone tell me where to find the cocoon gig? is there a link here (aka freely available, ccause it was kinda shared for free wasn't it?) or do i have to go to rtsr?
|
Re: Darc
patrick, check yer PM.
Back on target, this track is way too uplifting in melody to be known as "darc". Though the lyrics are definitely a bit sinister From the loopy lil analog harmony that kicks it off to the guitar chords and solo halfway through...it feels very finished. So, yeah, count this along with Globe, You Do Scribble and maybe All These Things and Always Loved a Film as ready for, no, needing studio release!:D I like the lyric "waiting for winter, dancing for rain" as a possible title. |

Has anyone tried to make out all the lyrics? It's not quite an upper, is it? |

Am I the only one who is somewhat annoyed by "Shake that Higher"? Is it a Price piece? I don't mean that to be dicouraging. |
Re: Darc
Sorry, im not digging this one. May have to wait for some kind of studio release to get an opinion.

Re: Darc
big fan of this one, been on repeat for awhile.
speaking of being in the minority, they don't seem to have the lenny penne/you do scribble thing quite down. i know it's a favorite around here but it's always just this side of annoying, like it hiccups just before it gets into a good groove. |
Re: Darc
Lenne Penne is the worst track ever by UW, IMHO... though the rain sample does go nicely into Small Conker and a Twix.
|
Re: Darc
mmm i like this :)
|
Re: Darc
anyone remember the lux gig? is this the track they opened with there?
stimpee will know? it's a really nice groove to get you movin  |
Re: Darc
nope, different song at Lux
|
Re: Darc
From my vague memories of Global Gathering and its shite sound system, im sure UW did something else which hasn't been heard via bootleg etc. Though i could be wrong as it was over a year ago!
Matt, Rog? You were there somewhere weren't you? |

Re: Darc
having listened to this a few times now, i've come to the conclusion that its like a real song, rather than the usual abstract lyrics Karl spouts (nothing wrong with those, mind).
i could certainly see this appearing on the forthcoming (?) album... to me the lyrics are in the same vein as those Underworld used to write in the 1980's(!) even if the beat is groovier than the 80's sound, the vibe of the lyrics seem to be more song based, imo... and i like it :) |
Re: Darc
Who even knows if there just doing new live tracks and then never seeing the light of day. Raidoheads last tour has given at least an albums worth of new stuff but i doubt it'll all come off......

Re: Darc
I'm completely lost on the 'hiccup' theory. I'm not sure he is calling Small Conker... the hiccup. I think he is calling the off-beats or stumbling beats before the downbeat the hiccup. Oddly enough, when I hear Lenne Penne (which I like quite a bit more now than I did back 'then') it somehow triggers thoughts of Radiohead's Hail to the Thief. It comes off, to me, as the least Underworld-sounding tune of their newest tracks. You Do Scribble on the other hand I have no problem discerning as an Underworld track - just with more of a non-typical Underworld beat.

Re: Darc
Okay, given the love professed for this track, Darc, i had a go at transcribing the lyrics...but they need your help!
Here's what i got (uncertainties in parentheses): I've seen the animal, the animal is waiting, under a full moon, of shiny faces. Down by the river, two dogs attack each other. A woman is screaming at a boy in a baseball cap. Angel boy, in pristine white, comes running. Here comes the gang, having fun, Big brown dog, let loose. Big man cuts between, points the way, full moon watching, red steel with rubber, you want me? Animal is waiting. With a (......... glass in her hand) (inky inky finger there's more feel riding here) From the east end of London, past the M25 How many of us will get out here alive? Wipe the salt from my skin, take the pressure from my head (I come) from the station, gonna watch you slide instead Two eyes on the wristband, one pair of battered ( beads?) Is this perfection? Is it time for us to leave? ( ? ) from the corners of your door Pulls me down and made me clean, i wanna get some more Numbers on your collarbone, will you be my sun? Whip it out and ( ? ) Cruel and tender, magic degrees of truth, Like a spider on my skin, like the way you slip away from me Wave something ( ) is burning ( ) Waiting for winter, dancing for rain, my temptation, in pink and gold... (start of 5ft 5) Orbits me, and i, at the center of eye, and crystal water running straight to the sea of release i see eye looking back at me freshly squeezed and funky... |

it ends up reminding me of that game where someone puts their hands on top of yours and you're supposed to slap it before they draw back. it's like playing with someone who's entirely too jumpy. |

"Is this perfection? Is it time for us to meet?" This is fun :p Darc is so great... As long as they don't bring Oich oich into their live sets again, Darc makes an excellent replacement for that heavenly track! |
Re: Darc
check my sig, actually in the bootleg released quite some time ago you could hear the lyric, "is it time for us to meet" very easily
|
Re: Darc
Testudo!
Oh ye of little memory. ;) You remember posting this thread a while back? Is it the same choon after all? |
Re: Darc
I just wish someone would be willing to rip WISP for all of us who don't have a PS2 or those who have one, but can't play Japanese video games
|
Re: Darc
nope i remember, i didn't think anyone else would so...
;) |
Re: Darc
Of course, we mustn't forget to thank Geo for the first available version of this. If it hadn't been for his l33t recording skill3z at HMH, this would have been the first hearing of this choon.
Props, Geo. :) |
Re: Darc
Yes, much respect to GEO! ;)

Re: Darc
Yup, I got my minidiscrecorder -covered in my wallet- into the venue, eventhough for like two seconds a security guard had it in his hands :D
You're welcome btw ;) And thx indeed to Stimpee and King Of Snake for getting rid of the AYAYAYAYAYAAA! |
Re: Darc
Can someone please tell me what HMH and WISP stand for??
|

Heineken Music Hall (venue in Amsterdam)

Re: Darc
Can we get a confirm (Karl?) if this track is really named "Darc"? Or is it sort of a placeholder name for a work-in-progress?
Nothing wrong with Darc, but when there are other songs with the word "dark" in their title, it could generate confusion w/ Dark and Long Dark Train Dark Hard  |
