Movies Wot Make You Cry
I'm looking for recommendations of films that make you cry your eyes out. I'm having a hard time remembering what ones make me cry, though I do so fairly easily. Somebody recommended Magnolia, but I've seen that too many times. Donnie Darko's ending kills me, though I don't recall if I outright weep for it. I think I probably cried last time I saw In The Name of the Father, maybe I'll rent that next.
I will also admit that I cried for Dances with Wolves when I first saw it. What a fucking pussy. |
Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
Shadowlands.
Akeela and the Bee. Tears of joy and sadness for this one. Dumbo. :D |
Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
Schindler's List is a good one. Spielberg sure is good at tugging at those heart strings.
For all around meloncholly, there is always In the Mood for Love. |
Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
did you see Brokeback Mountain?
Personally I don't really cry for movies but if you do, then this is sure to make you cry. Also watch Finding Neverland. Great movie but also very sad. |
Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
I've gotten teary over a few movies, but the only one to make me bawl like a baby was the anime 'voices of a distant star'. Whether it was because I can relate to the separation depicted in the piece, or I was just in a weepy mood, I dunno.
But fuck. |
Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
Vanilla Sky gets me going at the end with the Sigur Ros song playing and Sofia just standing there with that look on her face.....so fucking sad!:(

Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
Crash
if you've seen it you'll most likely know which part |
Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
Magnolia
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou only two that come to mind atm. i know there are more. |
Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
Check out "The Saint of Port Washington" with Matt Dillon and Danny Glover. Very affecting!
|
Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
Mine are probably chick-flicky ones, but here goes anyway:
Local Hero, the very last shot of the phone ringing. (Reminds me of how I feel every time I get back from France *sniff*) Sophie's Choice Philadelphia E.T. All I can think of at the moment, but I am sure there are hundreds :p |
Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
I can't think of many movies that have made me cry ...songs, yes, but movies - not so much
but I will say that I def got teary-eyed during the part in "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" when they all go down in the submarine towards the end |
Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
'a very long engagement' did it for me.

Grave of the fireflys. fuck, if this doesn't make you cry your heartless.
i would say Requiem for a Dream but that movie left me more numb than crying. |
Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
Yeah, I've heard Grave of the Fireflies is brutal. Is it worth buying?

Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
ok.
"Vanilla Sky" for the same reason mentioned earlier plus it is a sentimental favorite. I have seen "Open Your Eyes" but I saw "Vanilla Sky" with someone special so it sticks like that. "Old Yeller" - haven't seen it since I was a kid but jesus I'd probably still cry. "Grave of the Fireflies" was a tear FESTIVAL. I've never been so sad watching a cartoon but the story just sticks to you. "Mr. Holland's Opus" I don't know why...I only saw this movie in the theater but I was balling. |

Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
The Iron Giant does it to me every time.
|
Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
Edward Scissorhands makes me cry everytime i see it. good cry.. not a dramatic terrible one.
Recently, The Squid and the Whale made me cry soo much |
Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
I found the last scenes in Lars von Trier's Dancer in the Dark devastating. I think that's the only time I've found myself sniffling uncontrollably in the cinema.
And it's not very original, but It's a Wonderful Life never fails to choke me up whenever I catch it. Not a movie, but the last thing i saw that had me embarrassinly struggling to maintain composure was the finale of Six Feet Under. |
Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
Just thought of another film to add to this list. The end of Rushmore always gets me, with the song and curtain call of most of the cast.
And that shark's big entrance in the Life Aquatic always struck an emotional cord. |
Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry
Spanglish. I also broke down during The Family Stone recently.

I was in a depressed state recently and watched "Garden State" and "Girl, Interrupted" (yeah, not exactly pick-me-up flicks). Both induced sobbing. |
