Movies Wot Make You Cry

I'm looking for recommendations of films that make you cry your eyes out. I'm having a hard time remembering what ones make me cry, though I do so fairly easily. Somebody recommended Magnolia, but I've seen that too many times. Donnie Darko's ending kills me, though I don't recall if I outright weep for it. I think I probably cried last time I saw In The Name of the Father, maybe I'll rent that next.

I will also admit that I cried for Dances with Wolves when I first saw it. What a fucking pussy.

Shadowlands.

Akeela and the Bee. Tears of joy and sadness for this one.

Dumbo. :D

Schindler's List is a good one. Spielberg sure is good at tugging at those heart strings.

For all around meloncholly, there is always In the Mood for Love.

did you see Brokeback Mountain?
Personally I don't really cry for movies but if you do, then this is sure to make you cry.

Also watch Finding Neverland. Great movie but also very sad.

I've gotten teary over a few movies, but the only one to make me bawl like a baby was the anime 'voices of a distant star'. Whether it was because I can relate to the separation depicted in the piece, or I was just in a weepy mood, I dunno.

But fuck.

Vanilla Sky gets me going at the end with the Sigur Ros song playing and Sofia just standing there with that look on her face.....so fucking sad!:(

Mine are probably chick-flicky ones, but here goes anyway:

Local Hero, the very last shot of the phone ringing. (Reminds me of how I feel every time I get back from France *sniff*)
Sophie's Choice
Philadelphia
E.T.

All I can think of at the moment, but I am sure there are hundreds :p

I can't think of many movies that have made me cry ...songs, yes, but movies - not so much

but I will say that I def got teary-eyed during the part in "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" when they all go down in the submarine towards the end

Re: Movies Wot Make You Cry

ok.

"Vanilla Sky" for the same reason mentioned earlier plus it is a sentimental favorite. I have seen "Open Your Eyes" but I saw "Vanilla Sky" with someone special so it sticks like that.

"Old Yeller" - haven't seen it since I was a kid but jesus I'd probably still cry.

"Grave of the Fireflies" was a tear FESTIVAL. I've never been so sad watching a cartoon but the story just sticks to you.

"Mr. Holland's Opus" I don't know why...I only saw this movie in the theater but I was balling.

I found the last scenes in Lars von Trier's Dancer in the Dark devastating. I think that's the only time I've found myself sniffling uncontrollably in the cinema.

And it's not very original, but It's a Wonderful Life never fails to choke me up whenever I catch it.

Not a movie, but the last thing i saw that had me embarrassinly struggling to maintain composure was the finale of Six Feet Under.

Just thought of another film to add to this list. The end of Rushmore always gets me, with the song and curtain call of most of the cast.

And that shark's big entrance in the Life Aquatic always struck an emotional cord.

This is the only movie that has made me cry as far as I can remember. The last memory I have of ever crying as a kid was in a doco in which a sea turtle loses her sense of direction due to pollution and instead of crawling back to the sea after laying her eggs it crawls inland until it dies. :(

i'll agree!

I was in a depressed state recently and watched "Garden State" and "Girl, Interrupted" (yeah, not exactly pick-me-up flicks). Both induced sobbing.
