LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
new LP from LCD Soundsystem has leaked. this blog reviewed it: http://planbmag.com/blogs/staff/2006...soundsystem-2/
it arrived down my net-tube this morning (thx p_a!) so far, i really like it, prefer it to the first LP actually. perhaps that because i knew most of the tracks on that album from the single releases. my fav. tracks as of my 3rd listen are: All My Friends, Someone Great and Get Innocuous. strangely, Get Innocuous has the exact same bass line as Losing My Edge. Someone Great uses the middle section of 45:33 with a full vocal to stunning effect. i hope to see them tour for this album. a couple tracks are hilarious in a typical James Murphey way. North American Scum and New York, I Love YOu But You're Bringing Me Down are both funny but very odd, as in, why the fuck did they decide to waste 11minutes on the album to jokes? anyway, put your thoughts here. |
Re: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
so far so good. Still digesting it. Very much in the vibe of 4533...
All my friends...nice track that. LCD Does New Order |
Re: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
The last track was sure a surprise for me, not bad either. A lot of retro 80s worship as usual, and also as usual I feel the album really drags at times, but overall it is much better than the debut and I am diggin it. :)

Re: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
could anyone hook me up with this?
AC39 on soulseek or pm me. :) cheers |
Re: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
I also just got it - but haven't had much time to listen...
I have skimmed through it - a bit disappointed that the first bit from the "nike run" piece wasn't included... but at least there's one track from it ("Someone Great") there definitely is a bit of a New Order vibe on the album though, isn't there? |
Re: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
Yes, esp. Get Innocuous. A bit Peter Gabriel, New Order, Joy Division feel. ( redundant innit?)
|
Re: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
the first song sure is great

Re: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
I hear way more of David Bowie 'Station to Station' era in this than I do New Order. In general it's like some of the usual NYC-luv has been replaced with a whole lot of Brian Eno luv.
I like how in track five he checks a Pink Floyd reference to let you know what era he's from. ;) |
Re: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
yeah, i agree scott, i don't hear too much New Order and i think the review i posted, which was the first review of the LP on the net, is the cause of people hearing new Order. you have to not know much about newOrder to hear them in this LP. the junior boys sound more like newOrder than this LCD album.

Re: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
There is actually a song there that reminded me of U2...
|
Re: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
It all reminds me of Kid Creole & The Coconuts.

Re: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
well - I actually haven't read any of the reviews yet about the album...
the only reason why I even mentioned New Order, is that there's something... that I can't quite put my finger on - like a certain quality, that reminds me of "The Perfect Kiss" (the 12" version) but I'd say of any album or artist... I would say it sounds quite a bit like early-ish Brian Eno. Like, the vocals on "Get Innocuous" and "Sound of Silver" sound a LOT like the vocals on Eno's "Before and After Science" album specifically, the tracks "No One Receiving" "Backwater" "Kurt's Rejoinder" and "Here He Comes" actually... come to think of it - those two albums sound a lot like each other and as far as Bowie... I wouldn't say like the actual album sounds similar, but I definitely would agree that the live songs from that tour sound like the LCD album... especially "Stay" and "Panic in Detroit" from the Nassau '76 show |
Re: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
the last track is so awesome that i've already learned to play it on the piano and sing along.

Re: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
I don't really know much about Eno or New Order or Bowie but to me Sound of Silver (the song) sounds like LCD covering a Hot Chip song.

Re: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
I really really really like the song Someone Great...it was the best part of the 45:33 collection and with vocals it's even better!
|
Re: LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
All My Friends reminds me a bit of Broken Social Scene. It's more in the feeling I get from the song than anything else.

Re: Reviews posted on the net, I hadn't read them... so I came up with the NO reference on my own... :) regardless, I'm really liking the album...
Also of note, if you have the record, please don't share it. James over on the LCD board is asking that. I know it's kind of ridiculous to ask it, but I'm not sharing it (anymore) Do what you have to, but i posted that request for the record. CranK! |

North American Scum is one of the best things I've heard all year.
