Pan's Labyrinth
 

Talking about fantasy films, I really want to see this:

Directed by the guy who directed Hellboy (which I liked a lot). I was just browsing WIRED and it has a page about it. On the article he says:

"I saw my first corpse at age 4. I have seen people shot. I have found a way to understand the world through very dark fantasies."

Sounds like something down my alley. :)

I'm itching to see this. I had a torrent of the film downloading, but the seeder crapped out and it got stuck at 88% complete.

Guillermo del Toro makes some fine films. If you've never seen The Devil's Backbone, definently check it out, it's worth a viewing.

Pan's Labrynth is very close to The Devil's Backbone in my opinion. For those that saw it, if you picture that kind of movie but with a fantasy story instead of a ghost story, you'll have a pretty close estimation. Not that it's the same story or anything like that... I just got a similar vibe from it. And there's about as much fantasy stuff here as there is ghost stuff in Backbone. Those expecting 100% Labrynth/Legend-esque fantasy, you should know that most of this movie takes place in "the real world."

It's a good movie. It's the kind of movie where, if you're with it, it's a masterpiece. Meaning I don't think they could've made this movie any better than they did... but if you're not in the mood or don't like these dark types of fantasy films then you may not see what all the hubbub is about.

For whatever reason, I found myself slightly disinterested. That's probably due to my expectations and fatigue (I saw it at a film festival)... When I see it again I think i'll get a better picture of how good this movie is.

It's very vivid.

Even though I already knew this director, it's funny that before seen it I was expecting something like LOTR, hence, I wasn't really excited about it.

This is one of the best films I have seen. Probably the best of the year (IMO). Great mix up between a fantasy tale and a short story within the Spaniard Civil War. Great direction, great photography, and very sentimental mood.

If you have the opportunity to see it, please don't miss it. It's all in SPANISH, I hope this won't be an issue.

true. I was all hyped because of Guillermo del Toro but def not my kind of fairy tale & after half an hour we couldn't try anymore and we walk out...:rolleyes:

SPOILERS:

I loved this movie. Fairy tale as metaphor for facism: utopia (for a priviledged few) is obtainable as long as you're willing to be blindly obedient and bear a little "collateral damage". Very good. I was reading an interview after the movie that said it was very low budget, which makes it all the more impressive. The scene through the chalk door was perfect. Except that she's a stupid cunt for eating the grapes.

Absolutely. The girl doesn't play very well, but this was not a real problem. Very good surprise, I saw it just after The Prestige.
