Noam Chomsky

Where do I start? I've read several articles and I'm liking it so far because he seems to be not very passionate, but thoughtful and reasoning all his points.... any other writer besides him that is worth the read, regarding US foreign policies in the 70's/80's/90's?

Re: Noam Chomsky

Yes... without a doubt, you should be reading his spiritual daughter, Naomi Klein. But watch out for Sean's wrath! :D

He is wonderful to see in a lecture atmosphere if you ever have the chance.

Manufacturing Consent is a great start book if you are looking for something to read.....and there was a Canadian documentary done on the book too.

Try Edward S. Herman for a similar perspective

Re: Noam Chomsky

I have to deal with Chomsky's scientific work rather than his political articles (Generative Syntax....oh yeah), but now and then I enjoy reading his official Blog

You should watch the documentary Manufacturing Consent, is long as hell but never boring and it gives you an overview of what Chomsky is all about...

Re: Noam Chomsky

me to - I have yet to see it. My friend wrote a wonderful review of it when it came to Montreal.....I still kick myself for missing it when it came to Toronto:

If a corporation was a real "person", what kind of person would it be?

Spread the word! On Thursday, I attended an advance screening at Concordia
University of the new Mark Achbar documentary THE CORPORATION. Most of you will be familiar with the work of Mark Achbar, who co-directed Manufacturing Consent. Noam Chomsky makes a reappearance in this new film, along with Michael Moore (Bowling for Columbine), Naomi Klein (No Logo), and a wide range of other talking heads, each with a privileged and fascinating perspective on the issue of corporate unaccountability. Among those interviewed: corporate CEOs, watchdogs, journalists, medical doctors,
filmmakers, citizens, Harvard professors ... and the militant activist who
lead a successful popular uprising against water privatisation in Bolivia!
We go behind closed doors at the Summit of the Americas in Québec to
listen in on the schmoozing that took place between corporate advocates and Federal ministers, while some of you were getting tear-gassed in the streets.

This is NOT just another hyperbolic commentary on globalisation. This is a
serious, well-documented, fascinating and encyclopaedic account of the
institution that dominates 21st Century Earth and its inhabitants.

THIS FILM SHOULD BE CORE CURRICULUM FOR EVERY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT IN NORTH AMERICA.

Re: Noam Chomsky

The Corporation acts like a sledgehammer to marketing inspired claims of corporate responsibility. I must say it really crystalised a lot of thoughts i've been having over last 12 months or so, and actually helped better explain a lot of things i've been trying to explain to the wife. so much so that after watching it she said 'i've been really worried about some of the things you've come out with recently but now i understand where your coming from'.

anyway i'm off to find manufacturing consent
