a few similar ones to me, I knew you'd pick 'leave me alone' ;)

and to be honest any of those could've made my top 10...

i just fancied sticking in a couple of 'newbies' like GIAUE & Hear to Stay

now i come to think of it... i missed 'The Village' which i absolutely love...

bollocks - now i'm pissed off...

04 : temptation
05 : she's lost control
06 : crystal
07 : touched by the hand of god
08 : age of consent

Re: New Order Top Ten

your silent face would make it to the list if the lyrics werent so pants. its a great tune tho. as for my top ten i cant remember the title of a lot of em. i just generally enjoy NO.

crank 10-28-2006 08:20 PM

Re: New Order Top Ten

Stimpee for once i agree with you, I can NEVER remember NO song titles. An i'm sure i'm going to catch it, but everytime i hear Blue Monday It just takes me somewhere else... I love how Bernie talks about how long Blue Monday is and how it goes on for ages, but i could listen to it over and over and over and over...

stimpee 10-29-2006 01:45 AM

Re: New Order Top Ten

I think the reason I can never remember the titles is because of Peter Saville's ace art where you look at the box or the vinyl and the song titles were never on there. Instead they are on the piece of vinyl thats spinning (hard to spin my head at 33rpm) or on the CD in the hifi. Great art but not very practical. So I never learned a lot of them (unless they were singles that had charted, they usually had the name of the song in the chorus).

Re: New Order Top Ten

Pfff... New Order Top Ten? That's really a too difficult question... (there can be at least 5 NO Top Ten...) anyway... here's a "possible" one :

Temptation
Everything's Gone Green
Blue Monday
Jetstream
Slow Jam
World
586
Ceremony
Here To Stay
Thieves Like Us

VoilĂ*...

Re: New Order Top Ten

off the top of my head, and in no particular order

Ceremony
1963
Regret
Crystal
Dreams Never End (specifically the Peel Session recording)
Temptation (although I can never decide which version)
True Faith

actually, after that there's none that really spring to mind. But I've not really listened to much New Order lately. I've been meaning to stick Substance in the car for a while. It's about time I had another New Order phase . . .

**ooh, and reading back through other peoples' lists I remembered Here to Stay, which should go on as well**

lock this fucking thread!

stimpee, the lyrics to that song were written, by the whole group and whoever else may have been outside the studio at the time. it's common knowledge the band were on a fair bit of acid recording PC&L and Bernard is as bad as they come in the lyrics dept. so he left a book outside the studio and as people came and went, they wrote down a line in the book. Your Silent Face is a result of that experiment. that may help you enjoy the random/meaninglessness of the lyrics.

PS. Joy Division and New Order can't be in the same category. They just aren't the same band. They are but in essence the impact of Ian Curtis can't be mistaken. HIS LYRICS were memorable. TWO DIFF. bands. IMHO

as this is my thread too and i kinda ranted about this in the New Order Live at Wemberlee thread, JD can't be included in a NO top ten...

my whole complaint about the live gig the other night was that they kicked off with 5 or 6 JD songs...and as much as i like them and they way they are performed by Barney now, i still don't wanna see NO playing JD songs to that extent - THEY are two different bands imo, but basically with 3 of the remaining members the same...yes they do overlap but they are different - i am a NO fan, and i like JD but was never into them because that all happened before i even got into NO... its a complex issue... but for the purposes of this thread, i say it should be NO top ten... if you wanna start a JD top ten, then i can add to that ;)

Re: New Order Top Ten

This is toploaded with a lot of new remixes. i decided not to include the Pettibone mix of BLT, the remix of Paradise, DMC mix of Love Vig etc. to give some props to this selection. Also of note, the K-Klass instrumental mix of Ruined In A Day, the Philip Steir 2001 mixes of True Faith, the Fluke mixes of Spooky and the Extended Instrumental mix of Here To Stay. Some of the mixes of Someone LIke You were excellent and the Tocodisco mixes of Regret are good for the modern dancefloor. Here's my list, highly debateable, but at least it's better than MattVal's.

1. Guilt Is A Useless Emotion (Mac Quayle Extended Mix)
2. Bizarre Love Triangle (Richard X Extended)
3. Blue Monday (Andrea Mix)
4. Sub-Culture (Razormaid Mix V.3)
5. Ruined In A Day (Reunited In A Day Mix)
6. Round & Round (12" Extended Mix)
7. Crystal (Lee Coombs Mix)
8. Everything's Gone Green (Cicada Mix)
9. True Faith (King Roc Mix)
10. Regret (Sabres Slow N Low Mix)

Perfecto mix of World (Price of Love) is also very good!

10. Regret (Sabres Slow N Low Mix)

you are so plainly wrong... as good as some of these remixes are my list is simply much better, actually i should have put in the King Roc mix, but thats the only exception, and i never liked the sabres mixes of Regret...personally...

possibly we have overlooked the Silk Hurley mix of Fine Time which although dated is still class... to be honest remixes are much more subjective than just plain old singles... and as some of the more recent tracks have about 12 remixes its oft hard to pick which ones are the best....

come to think of it - i don't think i have the Andrea mix of Blue Monday...

mmm

maybe we'll let someone else make some comments here ... ;)
