Electroma

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/n...a_teaser#37227

So, um, what? Heh, okay. Apparently, it's about a world where everyone has Daft Punk robot heads. :D

Re: Daft Punk - Electroma

That Daft Punk's debut as auteurs contains none of the French duo's music is but one of the perverse things about the project. There are still fine tunes to be heard — the soundtrack includes songs by Todd Rundgren, Brian Eno, Sebastien Tellier and Curtis Mayfield — but long passages of the film take place in silence. Despite some startling imagery (especially in the final moments), this conceptually thin tale of two robots who long to be human is stretched to the point of crushing tedium. The influence of '70s touchstones like Zabriskie Point, THX 1138 and Vanishing Point is easy to see, but no one asked Daft Punk to make The Brown Robo-Bunny.

looks very weird, but in a good way.

Re: Daft Punk - Electroma

yea...

didn't even know about them making the film before now (there's not like some sort of daft punk equivalent of dirty, is there?)

but the movie looks really interesting - and I was a fan of THX1139, and if this is similar - it could be cool.

when does the film come out?

The car scene reminds me of The White Room by KLF.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=prrrVAthA3k

The dvd comes out in September. (already out in Australia)

I wish The White Room movie was on dvd. The youtube clips don't do it justice.

Seriously. I'd love if somebody could put into words the awesomeness of Daft Punk. Specially considering how dissapointing is approximately 66% (not counting Alive 97 here) of their work. Because I love them, and I feel it can't be another way when you've seen them a couple times live and you like electronic music. Where does their charm reside in? Is there any kind of clinical approach to my question? I'd love to know what to say to people when they ask me about the band and reach them, give them a fulfilling answer.

awesomeness is simple, repetitive, happy songs
huge stage show with the lights and pyramid
space helmets
---

don't look for too much in daft punk. it's just simple, retarded party music.

it's also always done in style:

-robot gear
-uniforms
-live set of mashing up 3 lps
-interstella 5555
-their other videos
-light pyramid show
-action figures
-electroma
-good tunes

daft punk seem to go a long way to enhance their music visually in unique manners. that's something that separates them from a lot of other acts out there: daft punk became icons without being actual celebrities, simply by offering experiences which ppl do not see every day.

while their music might seem repetitive to some, their inventiveness removes them far from being just retarded party music.

ps. i also find discovery to be one the best albums of all time, so i might be biased :)

the fact that they're primarily graphic designers who handle their concepts amazingly well goes a long way.
but yeah i also love their albums

It's all in their overuse of compressors ;)

i think they are awesome because is not the same liking machine generated music and actually seeing some weird robot machines playing the music you like.. and also.. they make you dance: perfect.

Robots are like the best thing in the world after chocolate.. so i love Daft Punk even if there is not going to be another "Homework" again, apparently.

related:
for some time i thought Daft Punk was the alter project of Air jeje.. cute.

also.. im seeing them in 2 weeks and i can't wait!!!!

and.. Electroma looks soo weird.. so great :)

nooooooo...

i heard it was quiet, and not very glittery, and cheap in some aspects, but i guess i was hoping it'd be good in the straightforward kind of way.

ah well, there's always oizo's 'steak'
now that looks really funny.

Re: a shitty movie

it doesn't suck at all. I saw it yesterday. Is obviously not a masterpiece or anything like that.. It was really crazy seeing all the excited ravey fans in the line, getting into the threatre almost dancing.. and then seeing them fallin sleep and the middle of the movie hehe.. that was *fucking awsome*..

I need to process more the movie, but besides looking fabulous and having crazy landscapes reflecting in the neat robot helmets, the music is really good and the last sequence takes your breath away.

Re: a shitty movie

cept there's an assload of walking where the dual jackets emblazoned with their logo are prominently featured throughout.
that's what bugged me. because there really isn't anything to do with daft punk in it, but they wear the jackets. bah.
other than that i rather liked it.
i guess because expectations were brought pretty low by that point and it fit the mood i was in at the time, which is just the will to sit there and watch things happen or not happen.
