Booka Shade

Mentioned by Karl on UWlive yesterday...I downloaded their Movements release last week. Anyone into this release? It's quite good in my opinion.

overrated IMO, but a lot of people dig it.

its simple, sort of fresh without being that original, like lots of the "get physical" material.saw them live awhile ago which was just like listening to the records.

this is sweet! i mean that both ways. there are so many little squelchy synthetic hooks that the effect is kind of poetic. they aren't afraid to get lush. i'm so bored with dry, vaguely menacing tech-house.

it'll be great on the headphones.

Caught them at T In The Park and was unfussed.

Never understood quite what was so great about them. Bought the album and put it on from time to time, but nothing special caught my attention. I have to agree it's better on headphones, but it's still a bit boring in places.

it's fantastic sounding on headphones.. but it's only a few tracks that take it slightly above average, imo.

when i backed it up on a hard drive i ended up putting it back on after a few months because i kept wanting to hear it though. its big advantage is that it jsut sounds so natural, effortless, and reasonably funky

drat, i'm out of CD-Rs.

i think that effortlessness comes from that painstaking act of balance that BLD was talking about in the Trentemoller thread. but this is so much more charming than clinical, i'm loving it. watch me do a complete 180 in a week ^_^

Ooops, sorry.

Anyone seen them live yet? There's a few snippets on youtube, but the sound sucks beyond belief.

An acquaintence said these guys reminded him of a minimal Royksopp piece. Much more energy live. Can you elaborate a bit more Ally? I normally take concert trips when there's 2-3 shows night after night to make the trip worthwhile. San Fran at this point in time is bleak with anyone else to see, so this may be a one show trip. Should I shell out the money???

PS: can Admin. remove my thread of same title below?

Re: Booka Shade

I saw booka shade live in LA earlier this year. Pretty good show, they got pretty drunk and started being silly at the end of it...smoking 6 cigarettes at once and shit like that. One guy was on laptop/keys, and the other guy played an electronic drum pad set. His skinny german-ness and blonde hairdo made him look like David Spade. The only nitpick I have is that they played it rock band style, and paused inbetween songs. Boo.
