Re: BIG Sister Poll...
The question is about "the release". I'd put the music up at 8, but the slideshow is pointless in my opinion... A waste of opportunity, since they can make something special out of these packages. Therefore I went for a 5 :)
I'm assuming Stephen didn't like the slideshow either ;) |
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
I will wait for a few days before my vote!
I have to listen for a few times to really apreciate the music... I hope it will grow on me. |
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
1 out of 10 for the bitrate assfucking alone!:mad::mad:

Re: BIG Sister Poll...
heh, heh, heh - I'll keep my mouth shut.
Best of the three, hands down. It's a lullaby(in a good way), so I'd recommend no one listen to this in a jacuzzi or pool. |
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
not 10 because perfection doesn't belong to this world...
not 9 'cos i listened some uw tracks a bit better than this one... so... it'll be 8 ;) |
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
Best one of the three.
|
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
I like that. Its 8/10.

Re: BIG Sister Poll...
i gave it a 2 out of 10 and here is why:
It's quite boring and has almost no replay value to me. Musically its pretty nice for a single listen through i cannot imagine having any desire to listen to this again unless i was taking a bath or something. Dont mistake me for saying its bad, because its not. Its just not my cup of tea where underworld is related. here's my breakdown: The first two tracks, Peach Tree, an Mowed Path I believe, work very well together but, again imo, are wildly underdeveloped. Peach Tree seems to take me right to the apex, right to the point where it can deliver some great and heavy beats but it doesnt. instead it drops us off into an OichOichy track (and my fave on here) but a downer after a 10minute buildup. I especially like the feel of the beginning of Peach Tree in the same way i like the beginning of Deep Arch. Both of these tracks have a similar held-chord loop that brings the emotion, but both of these tracks hold the same fate of dropping you off before you arrive at your destination. Showlder is nice, but again, ill never be saying, "oh man, im in a mood to hear Showlder!" The vocals in Wedge make me uncomfortable. I cant describe it but i get the same feeling when i hear Shakiras voice. its that muted chord sound that i cant listen to. i do not like this track at all. 100Hz (last track?) has a charm much in the same way the Avalanches piano tracks do too, but again, no desire to be charmed by it again. |
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
I agree that you can barely understand the lyrics of Wedge and that it doens't work well at the beginning of that track. But when the drums kick in it becomes fitting.
The underdevelopement of some tracks... i thought that was the whole point of the RiverRun? Anyway, i don't think the tracks suffer that much from it. Maybe i'll rate it in a few months... when i'll have listened to it more. |

EDIT: the last track, has a very David Lynch/Badalamenti soundtrack feel to it. couldnt place my finger on it, but it just hit me. |
I feel dirty...

I get that sort of filthy underworld feeling towrds the end of this that I just love. Hard to explain....but it's great. |
Re: I feel dirty...
oh reading this i really don't have much desire to download it, probably will due to collection value, but the other RR's were pretty boring IMO
|
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
I think that you definately have to be a fan of ambient music to dig this one. It's quite good in that aspect and I was listening to it while working and found it to be really good in the background. The fact that they have a new album coming soon tells me that they have what they feel is a crop of A-side tracks and I don't think the RR series was meant to deliver on that premise, although JAL To Tokyo was quite nice in that respect.
In all, I give this a 7/10, average. No way in hell though do I give this or any of the other installments higher, nor do I think they expect that I don't think. There were a whole lot of good ideas expressed though the various RR releases but good ideas don't always make good songs and I know this -- I have about 100 good ideas on my studio HD myself, and they're going nowhere. :) |
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
This is just flowing with style. It's fucking gorgeous -- I can see why it's boring for some, but I eat this stuff right up. Easily my favorite of the three releases so far.
Not anything I'd expect on their next album, but damn if it isn't beautiful. |
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
a little too mellow for my tastes,
i listened to it, and didn't notice to much activity in it.. if this is the last riverun, then i'd be disappointed.. taking the three together as a whole makes it ok (i hope the mix is better).. i still think the first release was the best. 4/10 later -1 |
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
Have listened to it for a few days now to properly wrap my head around the new music (as with almost everything U/W), and think it's simply beautiful and hypnotic....
"Peach Tree" and "11 Hundred Hz." is worthy enough to be slotted any album, for sure.... |
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
There is definitely a much greater focus on the ambient sound aspect of the work in this one than in previous releases, although that may just be because the work as a whole is more understated.
It's going to be very interesting to see which bits from RR are selected out for the album and how they're connected back together (and whether the album is released as a continuous-sounding mix or discrete tracks). With one more RR release they could have enough for a double album, or even two albums (one soft, one loud?)! |

Re: BIG Sister Poll...
4/10 from me. first part is nice, after that it becomes a bit dull (and no, i like ambient in general)

Its amazing! |
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
I don't think we'll see parts of riverrun back on an album. There will be parts of the 3 rrp releases used in the 'misterons mix' that will be released july 10th though.
And don't forget the remixes by others that will be released on 12"! Who knows what will be on those for B-sides.. |
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
Haven't done the other polls but ill give this an 8/10. Pizza For Eggs i would give 9/10 as i like more tracks and LovelyBrokenThing 7/10.
Pleased i have finally got the download :) |
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
5/10
The slideshow is the highlight for me. |
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
11 Hundred Hz on loop.... chilled
For me, this is fine underworld. there are bits i like, bits that i'm indifferent about and bits that i absolutely love. sorted, respect due (c) harry hill |
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
well said sir ! thats underworld !:)
|
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
I gave it a seven. There's some really nice chilled sounds in there but nothing really stands out. Still, overall it's not bad at all.
I'd give PFE a 8.5, mostly because the first two tracks are abolustely brilliant, and the rest pretty decent as well. LBT would probably get also 7 from me. Some good moments but not really enough to keep me coming back for more. |

Re: BIG Sister Poll...
As there are 5 tracks, then I'd have to rate each track out of 2. therefore i think i'll rate each track out of 20 and then total up to give a %. not finished listening yet :) still sinking in. no point in voting yet. i think i'll split the files also first. Still perfecting the CUE file.
|
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
i voted initially 7, but i'd like to downgrade my mark to a 5, because i think that this is more than 30% off perfect and nearer to just 50% good -
in a sense - will i be listening to this in 6 months time? no probably not - i might dip back into it but its not something that i will put on and play back because i really dig it, because i don't think i will.... thats not to say i don't like the music in it or the production, which i think are both great, its just as a piece of music it really doesn't do anything for me... i really prefer single ambient pieces in shorter bursts, rather than longer sections, and I much prefer P4E & LBT and i'd only rate those 8 & 7 out of 10 respectively, so to give this 7 was initially a bit rash and so would like it noted that i rate this 5 in retrospect overall as a package the deal is great - a cover, the quicktime movie etc, but I really won't be revisiting it that often.... but each to their own - this may be more to other's liking so enjoy it if you do Matt |

For me, this is beautiful music for doing something else, but it probably won't be the first record i reach for if i wanna hear some UW! There are also grades of ambient music. For some folks, the more minimal, the better. Personally, i can't take fifteen minutes of a single droning sound (not saying that UW did this!). On the other spectrum is something like the Orb (ambient house, i suppose they're considered), which i totally dig because the sounds keep changing throughout those 15 minutes. Still, i can totally appreciate "I'm a big sister" and am all the more looking forward to the soundtrack, since it probably has more in the way of experimental sounds/ambient bits versus dance and lyric-driven tracks. Just speculatin'. |

Re: BIG Sister Poll...
Don't you know that? Just click on the number and it will show the results. ;)
|
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
it does say that results are public
also: chill? i know people who toss what they can't handle say that, but i honestly wasn't insulted. just thought you were being contrary for whatever reason (ie: reasons just stated) also your whole family is a jerk. |
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
Whilst I say your mum is a jerk, it is in jest. I'm sure she's lovely. And that wasn't meant to sound as ranty as it did. I think that came more off the back of me not realising I could view the poll results like that than getting called out for rating it a zero. Now I see though so I've learnt something today at least. Je suis chilled.
Anyway, I think the new RR is alright, not terribly interesting though. Might burn it to CD so I can have it in the car and digest it further. |
Re: BIG Sister Poll...
Burn it to a CD and play it on a really good system. I did and I appreciate "I'm a Big Sister......" even more. The subtleties really come out in it this way....
