I love Wiley but that track is wack. Unimaginative music and lyrics. Wiley needs to up the originality quotient.

Quick poll here, will Lady Sovereign's signing with Def Jam result in a fresh or wack album?

Opinions please.

With rumored production from Jay-Z, Pharrell & Timbaland, it'll be tough to screw up. But I've said that before about anticipated hip hop albums and I've been thoroughly disappointed. I'll predict 4 or 5 slammers with a few throwaways.

Wack?! I haven't heard it yet...I'm at work. But DJ/Rupture seems to disagree with you...

Lady Sovereign? Hmmmm...not sure. I suppose it'll be good, but I'd rather hear more from No Lay.

Hm. Latin horn sample + street rap over DIY avant-beats; seems natural that Jace would link to it. Something's seriously missing from the track, but that horn sample has been in my head all day.

I don't know, man, one listen and I think that's pretty hot. Personally, I felt Thin Ice was pretty inconsistent and if he can release an album a little more solid than that, I'd be happy.

You're probably right; I forgot that I'm listening to this through the speakers attached to my computer monitor. The bass is missing :)

What made you think the first album was inconsistent?

Re: TOM - New Wiley exclusive here

Well, I have to dig it up, and I'm moving so all my CDs are packed right now, but I adored:

Pick U R Self up
Reasons
The Game

And had the impression that the rest of the tracks were a little weaker, and speculated that perhaps (maybe) the album had been rushed to ride the crest that grime was on at that point in time. Sort of an unfair accusation, maybe, but that's how I felt at the time.

i love those three tracks, though.

you're forgetting the brilliant track "Pies" dogg...and I concur, more No Lay over Lady S. mos definitely...

but that's exactly why I'm worried about her getting with Jay-Z

I do agree though, that there's probably only going to be a couple of good tracks then mostly throwaways

I guarantee that Jay-Z et al are going to fuck with her image soooo much

Shit, only just saw this thread, cheers adam.

Track is verging on good. I loved his last album, and this will probably grow on me.

Wonder if duckie has heard it yet...

To clarify on my lack of enthusiasm for Lady Sovereign: that's bullshit. I do think her first verse on "The Battle" fucking rules. "None of your words can hurt me, fool, none of your comments mean fuck all.."
