i haven't read URB for a while...is the readers mix section a list of tracks you'd use in a dj set or an original mix of yours? Either way, cool stuff!

I know the magazine is at least in the US, and I'm pretty sure it's international - but don't quote me on that. It's been around for just over 15 years now.

and the mix itself - well... let's just say - I was quite surprised it made it into the magazine, know what I mean?

I sent them a disc. what's funny is that... well - I knew it was kinda a big deal... but it wasn't until I went to the main record store here in DC that I got a more realistic perspective on it. I mentioned it to the owner of the store and another guy (to see how I go about getting gigs here) and the one guy said he's been dj-ing for 16 years, and had sent at least 10 tapes to them... with no luck!

not that I'm claiming I'm the next big thing... or anything along those lines. I've certainly heard better mixing, by far.... but at least by standards of live mixes - I thought mine was decent. When I was done with it - I almost just scrapped it, as I (personally) didn't think it was totally up to stuff

and yea - I'll post up the mix again (I had a bit ago) but I need some sleep....

...one little pet peeve / something to point out : this was a live mix, I only point this out, b/c I've seen (on other MB's) people bragging / posting their 'live mixes' that they 'did at a party last night' ....only to discover that 30/40% of whatever was within it was premixed - and anything that was done at the live = trainwreck of a transition. Or, the other option is that someone does the mix on a program like ableton, and constantly 'revamps' the mix over and over again... not that the mix itself is done again, just more loops added to previously existing music file. So, basically - the final product couldn't have been done on the first go

but again - none of that rant has to do with anyone here... just stuff I've observed at other places

and yea - I even agree that the mixing is a bit rough in places, I originally wasn't going to send this mix - but I thought that it had enough character to stand up on its own, you know?

Yes URB is a great magazine. Last one i bought was a while ago in october 2005. Its got Atmosphere on the front cover and coverage/interviews of Richie Hawtin, Blackalicious, Dangerdoom, Adult, Tom Vek etc. Well worth bying.
