The Streets - When You Wasn't Famous

Cheeky little number this :) Grabbed it down off a guerilla link earlier today but just checked it and it ain't working any more. Check it, me's liking :) In the same vein as Fit But You Know It but without the guitar.

"I know!" :)

Well, I can't really dig it yet... Might have to come... I also saw half of the video and seemed a little "been there done that" but I only saw half of it...

Pft well, if that link comes around again give us a ring.. because I can't bother to pay $9 for an import single with *one* song on it. I like Original Pirate Material. Was listening to Fit just last night in fact.

Sadly, I thought this was rubbish. He seems to have taken his 'unique' flow to it's conclusion of not-making-the-words-fit-in-at-all. Sounds like something a bunch of 13 year olds might have turned out. I enjoyed both the first 2 albums and will certainly be interested to hear the new one when it drops here. Not optimistic at the moment though.

Absolute crap, all of his other tracks hes returned with have been ok. Anyone heard the Cassetteboy track that rips him to bits?

I've heard the one on Inside A Whale's Cock (Vol 1?) attributed to The Roads called £3.10. That's pretty fucking funny.

I just recently saw The Streets in Amsterdam with Leon...i thought it was great.

i'm off to see 'em at Brixton in the not too distant future...looking forward to it...

whats with wanting every Streets release being groundbreaking anyway, if its good decent tunage then whats the problem...?

i like the new tune, its not 'dry your eyes' or 'fit but you know it' but its still a good track....

im not saying it should be groundbreaking but im just saying it isn't. this single doesn;t come near singles like "dont mug yourself", "the irony of it all" or "fit but you know it". the chorus isn;t that great either.

its a pile of shit. I hope he's being ironic with the 'its terrible this being famous' lark. If people find it so terrible being famous then they can piss off and work in Tescos. And thats my opinionated opinion for today.

pile of shit?

do you like The Streets anyway?

because its no different to any of his other stuff accept the subject matter....of which, of course he's being ironic...(at least he's speaking about the real world in what he says, unlike most of hip hop / raps stars)

i think if you are a fan of Mike Skinner you will like this to some degree, if you are not then you will consider it shit, but then you will consider every track they've done as shit...

I've gotta say this is usual streets fodder and i'm hating it....

Accidentally saw them last year at T in the Park (New Order were on next and we wanted a good vantage point) and they were GUFF.

Gotta agree with the Eikman. The Cassette Boy stuff makes it much better. :)

Re: The Streets - When You Wasn't Famous

okay well within the context of the album 'when you...' just belts out eight times better than the initial listen. I remember back when I was thrown off by 'fit but you know it' a foolish thing to think now given what I feel about that track and the album that followed.

As far as this new album is concerned, well, I don't care how outlandish it sounds but I really think Skinner is one of the most important artists going these days. forget the admirable fact that he produces it all, the frankness he brings to his material, while quite familiar now, is irresistable and just gets deeper and more apreciable with every listen. I really think without him great albums like 'bang bang rock and roll' might not get the respect thy have now (and it's great as well). 'Never wen't to Church', 'Two Nations', 'war of the sexes' and 'hotel expressionism' stand out besides 'when you...'.

'Cause people who don't get hammered, don't get to NAIL!!'

Agreed. Album is hot. More comments after a few more plays.
