So what news...of Gdynia?
Anyone go to this show?
I had thought about going but it would have been a long train ride, the rest of the line-up wasn't really worth the price, and I would have been doing it all alone. Instead I took an equally long train ride to meet a friend in Prague. What did I miss? |
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
http://www.cgm.pl posted pictures of the first day of the festival. Maybe they post more pictures later.
I did search for reviews but have trouble with searching polish sites.. so if you could help there :) |
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?

mix of 90's first techno parties classical orbital the new drumnbass vibes and mystikal long versions with spectacular finishes just amazin it is hard 2 describe this the night was worth any money and much more peace |
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?

Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
you're gonna burn me right away, but it was my 1st time i saw underworld live (after all thos years waiting). AND i am disappointed. i really heard better bootlegs than that. :(
why?
but i there were 2-3 tracks which i haven't heard before and they were amazing (as always). hope it's from the upcoming album. |
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
the 3rd guy is Darren Price, long time Underworld dj and now part of the band (at least for the live show). So I guess he must still be learning since this was only his 3rd show (although obviously they had rehearsals). From the pics it looks like he's having a hard time :D

2. Yes Exit was separated too, give Mr. Pricey time... ;) 3. I hate when people around me dont feel it like me...:( 4. It was Open Air or Club? Prague will be open air, open air is that normal i think...:( |

Here's a link to a lot of comments about the show (the actual newspaper article said nothing). There's quite a few about UW, but everything is in Polish. It would take me a while to make sense of it all and I don't feel like putting in the effort. Anyone else interested in trying? http://forum.gazeta.pl/forum/72,2.html?f=78&w=26271353 |
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
i do not care what someone else think about the whole concert - it was my 3rd concert 1st was in ireland (open ) 2nd in Berlin and third Here in my Country (also open er) and it was the best!!!
greeeetings |
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
but it is true that some of the people were a litlle bit like a strangers out there
......Jammmin 3stylin makes oldfans confused but real makes bigggger  |
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
well they always talked on stage... there is no way around that when you have HUGE flowing tracks. not like a rock band which playes 4 minute rehearsed songs.
and in a festival atmosphere its always gonna be more chaotic. sound systems are set up for dozens of bands instead of just for UW. at a solo UW concert all the fans are there just for them, the sound is set up just for them, the lights just for them, etc. MUCH more cohesive experience i think |
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
3 new tracks!! please tell me there is a recording floating around out there?
|
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
Well to be fair, when i saw UW @ T in the park 2003, there was an awful lot of stop and start as well,so its nothing new really!

1) less time to play = shorter tracks, less improv 2) smaller setup 3) need to get all the heavy hitter tracks out there and some wont magically run together |

I really wish they would make a conscious decision to start mixing stuff together again because right now it seems they, or at least Rick is happy with the way it's going even though in the early days they made a point about their liveset being more like a dj set and about the continuity. It might also have technical reasons, since now they run everything as audio from laptops while before they ran everything via midi off the samplers, and using midi is a bit more flexible tempo and mixing wise than straight audio. Just a guess though. |
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
Yeah, on any tour certain gigs are better or worse than others, festival or headlining. We can be sure, however, that the boys are giving it their best!
Machines break down, it's just the name of the game. Also, consider that on some nights, they may consciously choose to play the standards. Though we may love the 80 minute freeform jams like in the early days, i'd be willing to wager that the majority in the crowd want to hear songs they recognize. |
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
Apparently they at least played these songs, and I'm sure more, including new tracks:
rez born slippy king of snake jumbo moaner All regulars, I suppose. |
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
i hope they play juanita on this new tour. i was sad i missed it last time... also i hope they play dark train again...

Seems like an OK set, but I want to hear something new, much like everyone else. Go figure. So was that the set list, or less? |
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
every old song sounds like new because they were jammin and improvisatin every single track. Even bornslippy. 3 new songs incredibly great.
wait for audio and u will see. peace |
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
well, for sure if this is gonna be the setlist for this tour again, they'd better do a lot of improvisation because otherwise I'll be pretty dissapointed.

Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
i can't stand the moaner song still... i don't like it as a closer... however i am excited to hear this 4 new songs.
|
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
oh why are there no recordings of these recent shows floating around yet?
|
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?

i think moaner is a great closer...but its one of my fav's... these three new songs + ALAF....were they full tracks or more like improvs into other tracks...and did they have any vocals...did that 'visions' track appear? |

Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
Thanks :D
Quality of both video and audio is rather good :) |

It's all become pretty predictable which is a damn shame if you ask me. So many great tracks never get played. Too much BF and not enough STITI, Dubno and EP's! |
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
Is it time for an online petition to change the ending song into 'TT' ? ;)

And let's have some Burts live as well while we're at it. I would like to hear a full version of TT though, I thought it was one of the best sounding previews we got. Let's hope it's on the new album. |
Re: So what news...of Gdynia?
hi ;)
well, i took loads of photos at underworld gig in gdynia (about 100) anyone intersted to see 'em? i can upload them to imageshack or something... och.. almost forget. i also recorded some clips from that show (for example a little bits from two months off, king of snake, born slippy and moaner). i will upload these files soon (maybe tomorrow or later), beacause thunderstorm has destroyed my local network, so i can't connect to the internet from my computer. |
