This poll is a waste of time :) Luetin will win the whole thing. its ace. i'm not gonna vote unless it looks like Luetin will get voted off.

I quite agree. I know "Ess Gee" and "Trim" aren't popular, but I think there's a case to be made for both of them. "Ess Gee" in particular is great for what it is - a short little instrumental interlude. If it was stretched out to eight minutes (like "Little Speaker"), it would probably be unbearable. At two minutes, though, it's fine. It's a good relaxing track to play right before "Dinosaur Adventure 3D," and it's very melodic and soothing. I always enjoy listening to it. "Little Speaker" is just tedious, though; for being so long, it barely has a musical hook to speak of, and there isn't any of that masterful Underworld rhythm on the vocals like there is in other stream-of-consciousness rants like "Spoonman."

I wanna get rid of Ballet Lane first. I like the way Ess Gee leads into Dinosaur Adventure. It's like the calm before the storm!!! It fits in. :)

totally true...

but i do wanna vote off the shite first...

this poll is so a given...i'll eat my hat if anything else wins the album...

I'm not voting either because I know someone's gonna vote Twist off before Two Months Off and I'm going to flip.

Twist and Lutein, nothing else should even come close.

Nah, Luetin should win and Sola Sistim should come second. That track is amazing. Trim and Twist are great too.

What's wrong with Ballet Lane? No really, I don't understand the hate. It's a nice little track, and I like hearing it between DA3D and Luetin.

Ess Gee is terrible. quite possibly my least favorite UW song. Not a listen to this album where im not poised on the skip button after Trim begins to fade out.

Is it me or Undies guitar tracks not popular? I like some of the trippy little riffs they do.Like Tongue!

No, it's not you...seems to be a consensus around here! But calling Underworld "Undies" might just be you...ne'er heard that one before! :p

i was driving with my father, a jazz affictionado. We were listening to AHDO, and when "Ess Gee" came on, his ears perked up..."Is this still Underworld?!" he said. I give UW high marks for (a) experimenting ith organic guitar sounds, (b) having the guts to put these experiments on dance albums and (c) not sounding like anyone else when they do!

But agreed...AHDO has more misses for me than hits...an easier poll in that respect. But i'm not sure i can call "Luetin" a hands-down favorite. "MoMove" was an awesome first-track, "TMO" is just bliss, and "DA3D" (though maybe a bit too long of a build-up) is still tops for me.

All that said, i'm voting for "trim" till it dies. Karl's voice is offtune, the lyrics are ickey, and the hook is annoying!!!

Fraid have to disagree
although there is a certain amount of shit on the album (e.g. Ess Gee),
some of the stuff on there was good
(a refreshing change direction for the band)

I <3 Ess Gee, it's an unbelievable pretty ambient piece of music, so I voted for Ballet Lane...

I'll never understand you Ess Gee lovers.. Karl had a cat walk on a keyboard and recorded it. That's Ess Gee. Thank god it's only like 20 seconds long.

i'm pretty sure it was a guitar. It's really quite lush and intricate, imho!

Meanwhile, since it's getting slammed in the voting, i don't think there are too many Ess gee Lovers here, reallY!

Hmm.

Well Ess Gee was my vote because it is the most dispensible on the album. But after that, I have no idea what I'll choose. Probably Trim... and I would like to see Little Speaker go a long way, because the end is pretty wicked and I'm a Rhodes-addict. Speaking of which, Ballet Lane should last a long time too because of the Rhodes piano.

Re: A Hundred Days Off Survivor Round 1

I think Ess Gee was the 100 Days Off album killer and partically the reason why no one likes the album (or at the very least, likes it least of all others). Before they released it they stated that they had 100's of songs written and carefully chose the best, but they chose this??? Terrible filler track, it's barely a song.. it would even be terrible as a b-side. Woof!

I'm pretty passionate about my dislike for this track.

bavarianbeer 02-09-2006 01:59 PM

Re: A Hundred Days Off Survivor Round 1

I don't know, it seems unlikely to me that a two-minute track would kill a sixty-minute album. Especially since it really is a pretty-sounding track. "Little Speaker" drags much, much more, and never really goes anywhere until the very end. I'll be voting for "Little Speaker" until it bites the dust. I think the second side of the album is better than the first; sure the first two tracks are great, but I always have a hard time sitting through "Twist," "Sola Sistim," and "Little Speaker" in quick succession. In my opinion, they should have saved those for the B-sides and put on "Like A Swimmer" instead.

stimpee 02-09-2006 02:23 PM

Re: A Hundred Days Off Survivor Round 1

Hah. I'd been holdng off on seeing the results, as I havent voted. Ess Gee not a favourite then I see. Funny. If Luetin doesnt win this thing you all want your heads looking at.

Malt Refund 02-09-2006 02:26 PM

Re: A Hundred Days Off Survivor Round 1

Ess Gee killed it because it means theres really only 9 tracks, and thats a short album compared to the other albums.

bavarianbeer 02-09-2006 02:39 PM

Re: A Hundred Days Off Survivor Round 1

I can't agree with that reasoning. Two of the three other albums have nine tracks or fewer, and A Hundred Days Off is shorter than any of the other three albums by at least ten minutes with or without "Ess Gee."

sola sistem is the best song ever.

if it gets voted off I'm leaving.

well, not really. but I'll be upset.

Re: A Hundred Days Off Survivor Round 1

i like ess gee.

trim really needs more votes though.

my typical underdog pick is ballet lane. i really love that one. but it's not going to live past round three.

the one i'm going to get mad at voting off too early will be little speaker, because its only the second best track on it.

and of course the two i'll scratch my head about and wonder why the hell theyve lived for so long will be DA3D and sola sistim. i dont like either of them.

and if luetin doesnt win this board is LOST.

(luetin excepted of course :) )

Re: A Hundred Days Off Survivor Round 1

EssGee is pure beauty, and we can have a breathe on it at the middle of the album, but if it's like watching a movie, people don't like interlude...

Malt Refund 02-10-2006 05:02 PM

Re: A Hundred Days Off Survivor Round 1

You're the second person to say that Ess Gee is great because its basically a "pause" song in the album so we can all take a break and wash up. If I wanted to take a breather I could just pause the CD. ;P

If it was Boards of Canada (interludes a'plenty) I wouldn't mind because they have like 18 tracks on every album. But here we only have 10. Theres soooo much more they could have put on the album, I hardly need a break after only a few tracks.

bavarianbeer 02-10-2006 05:16 PM

Re: A Hundred Days Off Survivor Round 1

Well, actually, I said it was there to provide some variation and contrast in the mood of the album right before "Dinosaur Adventure 3D." That's a perfectly good reason to put something on an album. That's exactly why "Blueski" is on Second Toughest in the Infants, or why the last couple of minutes of "MMM Skyscraper I Love You" is on Dubnobasswithmyheadman.

Hi Folks, I know this thread is done and out, but I have to say one thing:
Ess Gee is one of the most underestimated song in uw history, in my opinion.
A short pause / break / interlude, that's what it is.
And by the way, does anyone know the 16'16''-track of the DA3D Single???
It's called ANSUM, and it's something like a big brother of EssGee.
Nice piece of music, isn't it?
