what is underworls really about?

what is this band really about besides playing electronica????
what does there name mean exactly and do they worship satan?
on one of there album covers they have a pentegram inside the O which makes me think that inside the music there is more meaning as far as what they as musicians are trying to occomplish. what are they promoting?
if someone knows any info about this band on what they are really about i would appreciate if you post reply.

Re: what is underworls really about?

hmm. i dont know what they are about, but its certainly not satanic worship. a pentagram is an upside-down star. the star in the-very-old album covers is a right-side-up star. its just a star man.

yeah ok ok
with a name like undeworld and they do play trancy music with all sorts of sounds. ever heard of the THE BOARDS OF CANADA? there known to add subliminal messages in there music, not to be said the same thing about this band but what is this band really about as far as religiously and what are there views? theres hardly any info about them. do you really know what trance music promotes, because i do and thats why im asking what up with this band. i personally love electronica but i prefer to know what the band is about. im a musician myself and i believe that all music has a spiritual meaning.

Hmm, their religious views are probably private for a reason, because it is a personal thing that can either attract or alienate people, reghardless of what religion they were to adhere to.

i'm only speculating, but Karl's been known to say "God bless ya!" to the crowd during live shows, and they are supporters of the Buddhist Film archive, the Meridian Trust.

I think Underworld are religion-free. no hidden messages, but thanks for your contribution. Anyone have any satanism evidence?

Wow! Personally, I think you should listen to at least some of a bands music before jumping into a forum with a question like that.

Here's a clue - I don't care what religion any member of the band has, and I don't care about yours either. Satan is about as relevant as Thor. Do they worship Thor? Don't know and don't care.

Wow. Thor. Norse gods rock. By Odin.

Re: what is underworls really about?

my theory:
-karl struggled in the 90s with whether there was a god or not, and went through some pretty bad experiences, and then he discovered the good things in life, and that there was a god, and he isn't particularly religious as in going to church, but he believes in god and prays. just my theory.

and satan is very real. whether or not his name is satan or pluto or apollo or whatever, i believe there is a manifestation of evil, just as i believe there is a manifestation of good, call him God, Allah, Buddah, Zeus, whatever you wish, but that's my belief.

Re: what is underworls really about?

Has to be the work of the Devil. Definitely.

Let's face it, anything at all worth enjoying in life is a "sin", and Underworld bring me such pleasure that it can't be anything other than the Devil tempting me from the straight and narrow.

And when you think about it, there are some pretty bizarre references in their choons too. "Dirty numb angel boy" in BS Nuxx for instance. A "dirty" angel could only be a fallen angel, right?

I am also worried about subliminal messages in everything. Even when there are no lyrics at all, I find myself sometimes in a trance-like euphoric state after listening to some of Underworld's stuff. The very name itself, a reference to Hades, means hell doesn't it? I wonder if they are just softening our brains to be able to control our thoughts. I think it is even worse if you listen on headphones, cos then you are blocking out all normal stimuli and just subjecting your brain to these devilish beats and layers.

And also microwaves. Not the kind you heat your food in though, but the kind that the government transmit through so-called mobile phone antenna. I deal with those by putting aluminium foil inside my hat so that nothing can penetrate.

I would stop listening to Underworld at all if I were you. Wouldn't want to take the risk of being turned away by St Peter when the day comes.

althought the sample is just Karl talking about late night radio and thinking he's being followed by someone hiding in trees. Paranoia.

and then there's that live sample that says I'm a big sister, and I'm a girl, and I'm a princess. and this is my horse. Sounds like a pledge for a cult to me. :D

Fuck off. Or else me and Underworld sacrifice you next.

Sorry, I just can't be bothered with this crap of "well you know what trance music promotes". Excuse me, how can trance promote anything at all? 99% of it is lyric-free and when there are lyrics it's normally some unintrusive, borderline absurd thing being looped like "Bicycle Hat! Bicycle Hat! Bicycle Hat! Bicycle Hat!"

You know what trance and Underworld promote, really? Like someone else said, they promote good vibes. Unlike modern religion, which tells you how bad you are, turns people into judgemental sheep and turns U.S. elections into referendums on boys kissing instead of more worthy stuff like national security, the homeless and how in the hell do we exit Iraq.

You're selling your troll shit and I'm not buying. So like I said before, fuck off... and have a blessed day. ;)

EDIT: Actually I have to make a retraction, Underworld promotes good vibes; trance only promotes shopping sprees at Abercrombie And Fitch. My apologies... ;)

Airl Towel, Dirty Epic, Skym, Trim and countless other tracks by Underword are all track number 6 on their respective CDs. If you take any three of these tracks, what do you have? 666, the sign of the devil my friend! Coincidence? I think not!

a troll is someone who comes into forums only to knowingly stir up trouble, often to dissapear after one or two posts, but if enough people react to it they might stick around to throw more oil on the fire, so to say.
not saying that's definitely the case here but it does look like it.

ROFLMAO

The underworld I knew, as in Freur & Underworld MK1 were just a load of people with an "out there" humour! Anyone who remembers that phase of their career and ever heared the old "Uncle Jeff" ramblings would tell you.:D

Freur decided to change their name, as they were sick of the stick they got by having a name sounding like someone throwing up LOL.

I remember one drunken gig @ Marquee they (Rick, Karl, Bryn & Alfie) were taking about the name change, we were throwing many names back & forward and getting nowhere.

They got a commission to write the music to a upcoming film called Underword. Not anything like the one released a year or so ago, with Kate Beckinsale. We all trolled down to the Premier @ Leicester Square, afterwards we said "THERE'S you new name up on the bill board"

They are as Satanic as Andy Pandy ;)

I suppose youre talking about this Clive Barker adaptation from 1985 then?

from imdb reviews: "The sets are awful (the neon tube underground lab looks like a Gary Numan stage set). The costumes are awful (the gangsters dress like Duran Duran). The music is awful, and the dialogue is awful. The script is so bad its difficult to imagine Barker had anything to do with it."

That's the one. It's also called Transmutations and can be obtained pretty cheaply on video. It's actually pretty funny.

i have it on VHS & Two DVD's both as 'Transmutations' and as 'Underworld' - you can get the DVD for less than a fiver, but its a very shit film...so unless you are a big fan o Underworld's dubious origins or the source of about 4 rare / unreleased Freur tracks...then i'd leave it well alone...

I bought it mainly because of the Freur Soundtrack, which as far as i have ascertained, is not available on any format apart from Celluloid...

although there is a rumoured 4 track cassette type promo from the time with the tracks on it...Jazz Brain is one such track...as is Red Dog's Theme...

LOL @ views on Film, well it WAS the bizzare 80's and nobody did Bizarre better than Freur/Underworld right then ;)

I for one was shocked that people like Denholm Elliot & Art Malik put their names & faces to it it was so naff. But being part of that "scene" at the time, we all went along for the ride of our lives LOL

Quote:

Remixes! They start with a tune, change it and the changed version became "dun difrunt too" LOL

They were always evolving, from one tune to the next. I am only suprised they have stuck with Dance/Trance so long! They never liked "staying in the same place musically" for too long. Don't be suprised if they try and become the next Elvis LOVL. Karl being a self confessed MEGA Elvis fan

One of the Best film soundtracks they did (IMHO) as Underworld Mk 1 was Promised Land for Wild Orchid
