Re: 12x12" More New Order...Vinyl exclusives...

as an aside to this 12 x 12" Vinyl release, New Order are also to release the fourth Single from WFTSC on Feb 20th, Turn - this is different to the US release which is 'Guilt is a Useless Emotion' (a much better track, sadly) (not sure when this comes / came out - as i've seen promo's on ebay already)

it is quite possible that the Turn single & releated releases will feature some of these 'exclusive' vinyl only tracks...but this is NOT confirmed

I know for sure that the (Pete Heller) Phela Vocal Mix of Jetstream is available on exclusively ITunes, as i bought it...not sure if its still there...and don;t think it will be on the Turn single...

Re: 12x12" More New Order...Vinyl exclusives...

Yes, Guilt is much better than Turn.
So in USA will be released Guilt instead of Turn?

These 12" looks very good, kinda expensive to get all of em.
Some are re-issues of old factory records.

I like the idea that what NO does live in 2005, to mix the old JD tracks with the new ones.
The same is with these 12". The old songs is really known, except some mixes.
This seems to be more DJ release.
(Im sure that Hooky like the idea of these 12"s)

The question is if the old tracks like... Blue Monday 88 will be remastered or no. For someone who knows very well the old songs like this is the new 12" useful.
So I get only some of these 12" inches...But then I will have a hole in the collection...ehgghh I hate uncomplete collection.

It is the same like WFTSC single 7" inch. That was on vinyl and not on CD, but promo was on CD. So if someone want to get these mixes in digital quality, must look for the promo...

EDIT: I love vinyls...;)

Re: 12x12" More New Order...Vinyl exclusives...

I have this:
Waiting For The Sirens' Call (Planet Funk Remix)

And its the best WFTSC remix i ever heard.
I love to have this one on 12".

This mix is much better than
Waiting For The Sirens' Call (Planet Funk Dub)

It was good choice to pick the remix one and not dub.

But New Order have not always good choice what to release...

1) 1989 Instead of Vanishing Point was released Fine Time
(I love Vanishing Point so much, Im tired of Fine Time)
Technique is amazing album and its sad that Vanishing Point wasnt released...

2) 2005 Guilt vs. Turn
Why to release Guilt?
a) Guilt is much better track than Turn
b) Guilt mixes from the promo are amazing.

EDIT: So...Turn with the unheard remixes cant beat Guilt...

I don't think that "Guilt..." will be released instead of "Turn"...

I mean - as "Guilt is A Useless Emotion" I think has already been released in the US. Although, I think it was only as iTunes and limited Promo's... not as a proper single. Honsetly, most of the remixes are not worth writting home about, know what I mean?

The best mixes from their current period seem to be the ones off the WFTSC 7" releases...

afaik, Turn will NOT be released in the US...and Guilt WON'T be released in the UK...

Yes Guilt have own mixes on the promo. But on Singles was released Turn, so it means that Turn will be next single. My point was, that these Guilt mixes are great, I heard them, so I dont understand why in UK will be released Turn. I cant imagine better remixes than those who were used on Guilt promo. Turn dont have chance and its gonna be a weakest single on the album. Maybe some b sides will take Turn higher, but its a shame that Guilt wasnt released, with artwork, etc.

Im not sure if I got u right with this:

Honsetly, most of the remixes are not worth writting home about, know what I mean?

And yes WFTSC 7" releases are fantastic. No question about it.
I love the secret machines mix;) amazing.

Re: 12x12" More New Order...Vinyl exclusives...

well... what I meant about "Guilt..." vs. "Turn" is that the US is really getting neither as a proper single, so like - you really can't say that we got one instead of the other

but then... maybe this is going to be the trend for singles in the US? Like Depeche Mode's last single (Pain that I'm Used To) was only released here as a digital download

oh and "not worth writting home about" means that they were not that great. Basically, at best they were kinda ok... but not anything really outstanding. Like if you were on vacation, and were sending a postcard home of all these fantastic things going on during the trip, you wouldn't waste the space telling your people at home about the mixes (or, generally whatever isn't worth "writting home about")

Yes DM and Pain thats like the same.
Btw. I love Goldfrapp mix on Pain.
I love DM, seeing them in a week time...;)

Thx for explanation of the writing home.

more news....

apparently the scheduled date for release of Turn has been postponed...Warners don't seem to know whats going on, but as no list of remixes has appeared i don't expect to see this release at all now, but its still scheduled not yet pulled

Considering it will be a very late release to promote an album that is almost 1 year old...and news has it that the next album is pretty ready to go soon, so maybe thats it for UK single releases, what with the 12X12" set coming out...perhaps thats it for singles...

who knows

more news as i grab it....

Re: 12x12" More New Order...Vinyl exclusives...

so wait... neither are going to be released? or just the 12x12" 's?

btw - what's up with the NO online people actually bitching about the tracks being released on vinyl? I mean COME ON! kinda why I don't post on their MB, that and well - I don't have the time to go to tons of different MB's

but yea - I'd agree that this is really late to be releasing a single for an album... unless it's just gonna be like a special ep, you know?

on top of that "Turn" would've been their fifth* single off an album, and as you said - the follow up album's ready. I think they even said it was completed when "Waiting For The Sirens' Call" was released (like same deal as Kid A/ Amnesiac with Radiohead)

*fifth if you want to include "Guilt..." but that's pretty much to your own definition of a single release, you know?

yeah I've posted a few times there recently...

New Order basically created the 12" as a format, and now fans are bitching that they are releasing stuff they basically have already, on vinyl again...come on NO fans...stop moaning, vinyl sales are on the rise and NO are just recognising that fact...i can't believe some have thrown out their record players...what did they stop buying vinyl and throw away their players as soon as New Order went CD???

anyway, its the US fans who are most up in arms, as its a UK only release...

from what i can tell...12x12" is still go for the end of Feb...

Turn will NOT be released as scheduled, but may be later.

how i read it - it won't be released at all....i don't think WFTSC was that well received as a single...especially the way they released it (only on 7" vinyl!).

Guilt was scheduled for US release, but i'm not sure its actually come out fully yet, i think it was promo only, i doubt that will see a full release either...if its not out yet.

So we've had Krafty (full UK & US release), Jetstream (full UK & US release), WFTSC (odd format UK, partial format US release), Guilt (US promo only release) & Turn (scheduled UK release) plus the 12 x 12" set (UK only release)

to be honest i think Warners & London's handling of this project is bollocks...and they didn't have a plan to start with and seem to be making it up as they go along, although its not unusual in NO's long history to be a bit blase about their releases....look at the loses they made on Blue Monday!

just a minor update, the 12" singles are being released separately and are listed at hmv.co.uk at £5.99 each, thats £72 is you fancy grabbing all 12...(not out until feb 20th though...)

somehow, i think that some will sell out before others...

i'm likely to skip this money making excercise myself, esepcially as i'm trying to get NO on CD now as opposed to vinyl, despite my vinyl friendly rant on neworderonline... :p

Not that this has anything to do with the 12" releases, but the One Louder boys have this up:

Slight related tangent here - I still can't believe that between all of the various compilations of New Order material there still hasn't been a 12" box set of some sort. The one thing I needed as a hard core New Order fan was remastered versions of all of their classic era 12"s on CD. That's it. Heck, I would have taken non remastered versions on CD! Depeche Mode and Erasure put out their versions of these sets like what, a decade ago?

Re: 12x12" More New Order...Vinyl exclusives...

the problem with new order, is that there have
been thoughts of this project before (recycled
was the name)..

but it became too elaborate, and getting
peter saville to coordinate it became very
difficult..

i think something will eventually emerge,
but 'new order' aren't exactly on the level
that 'depeche mode', 'u2', 'blondie', 'madonna'
and 'erasure' seem to still have...

i think in between the box set - retro, and
the new 2xcd -singles collection, and all
the other collections, such as 'substance',
and 'the best of', and 'the rest of', there's
plenty out there..

it's rather hard to get it all in one place,
and would probably be rather expensive..

i remember about 3 years ago, i was trying
to make a tracklist for all their singles, and
it came out to about 30 singles or so...

true... it's absolute crap that there's not a definitive 12" Collection... sure there's Substance, but that wasn't really complete though

and in response to negative1 about:

that 'depeche mode', 'u2', 'blondie', 'madonna'

-> I don't think it's necessarily about them being on the same level as those aforementioned bands, I mean even Duran Duran released two boxsets of all the singles... (although it frustraitingly didn't include stuff off of Medazzaland [which, btw - I just rediscovered... and it's really aged well... I just wish I had gotten ahold of its corresponding singles])

So - is it just that DD have a bigger fanbase / more rabid than NO? I really doubt that... especially as the bulk of the second boxset pretty much highlighted their 'not so good phase' (basically '86-'93 when 'the wedding album') came out...

but to get back on track -

I don't see why NO don't do what U2 did on iTunes, and release a massive 'boxset' of all the album tracks / bsides / remixes. I mean, that was pretty much complete - save for a few cover songs and alternate soundtrack versions... and that even came with a nice 'digital booklet' which contained all the covers as well as little bits talking about the tracks ...I think the Edge wrote them

...and I just want to make it clear - no I do not consider myself a 'big duran duran fan' - I just liked their 90's releases, and a couple of the older tracks

The Duran Duran boxsets were really good.

I wouldn't mind it they just had a b-side comp or at least a way to get MTO and some of the other stuff without having to pay for tracks you already own from the other comp cds. Also no edits like they had to do on Substance.

I wish Underworld would do that also.

Unfortunately for us hardcore U2 fans, it didn't serve too well for us to get that whole digital box set. I mean we would have been shelling out $125 for a couple of records. Who wants to do that?

actually $125 sounds pretty good if it really was that complete..

by the way i also have boxsets from:
the cure (4xcd rarities - excellent)
both the duran duran boxsets
simple minds box (5cd)
big country (4 separate boxsets)

and of course my pride and joy -
kraftwerk promo box set - 12345678 which doesnt have
any extras but it is remastered...

maybe releasing all the tracks on itunes is the way
to go...because at least that way the fans would
have access to some of tracks in one format for the
time being..

yea but that U2 box set was over 400 tracks... that's actually quite a bargan. Now sure, if you bought all the cdsingles when they were released; then I can see the 'value' go down a bit, but still it was nice to have all the vinyl tracks released digitally, there were also quite a few promo-only remixes, and - of course the unreleased demos/outtakes/alternate versions of tracks (I still can't believe that they didn't use the 'alternate' version of Yahweh instead of the album one)

the only thing that frustraited me was the fact that there weren't any outtakes from the Achtung -> Pop phase, but you can win them all, eh?

big screen satellite 02-21-2006 03:39 AM

Re: 12x12" More New Order...Vinyl exclusives...

you have to look at the labels that these afore mentioned bands are on also...

Mute, in the case of DM & Erasure, Isalnd, in the case of U2, and Blondie (EMI) & Madonna (Sire) Duran (Capitol?)

all major labels with the bands interest at heart in the main...and good at knocking out sets for fans, and specifically for fans - especially in the case of Mute

New Order started out on factory, which we all know made no money whatsever, and even lost money while New Order were selling Blue Monday, it was a 'laugh' label, with Tony Wilson taking the piss whenever he could

then they got sold out to London, who basically thought of the best way to screw the fans by releasing so many greatest hits versions, its painful...they must have been rubbing their hands together at getting hold of all that New Order material

Now, i don't think NO themselves care for whats being released, because they don't really care for the way the label 'controls' their releases, when they had a say in Factory they did what they wanted and perhaps would have brought out an expensive box set that no one could have afforded...but now they just let the labels get on with it and fuck it up...

i don't think the fans would stomach another 'compilation' either, we have had our share to be honest...yes i would like a definitive version, but many people would baulk at paying x amount for it because they have almost everything on the various other things...

the best way would be to release everything digitally and let the fans buy what they need to complete their collections...

i mean, i hardly need Blue Monday again on another compilation, but if a complete set arrived it would be on there...but i'm sure that there are a few b'sides, odd remixes etc that i don't have and would be quite willing to pay to download...

Re: 12x12" More New Order...Vinyl exclusives...

i like what a lot of other groups have been doing:

pet shop boys - re-released albums + extra disc of tracks
abc - re-released albums+extra tracks
big country - re-released albums+extra tracks
echo and the bunnymen - re-released albums + extra tracks
simple minds - remastered albums-digipack/
some albums remastered for SACD/DVD-A

duran duran - remastered albums digipack

and more recently , 'the cure' -
re-released all the albums + extra disc of tracks

talking heads - massive box set, with all the
albums remastered + 5.1 surround sound versions of
albums + extra unreleased tracks

that would be the first step,
just to remaster the albums, and perhaps put some
extra tracks on them..if they were generous they
could use an extra disc....

of course like you said the label would have
to be behind it...i wonder if a box set (or
several of them) could be done for the
'pet shop boys'...i know they have a
large audience, but aren't they on the
'london' label also? i think there was a
box set for madonna that was huge,
(i think it was only the single versions
without remixes)...but i'm sure there
was an audience for it..

i also think there is a better market
for these specialty collections in asia,
and then europe and the US, so there
might be a better chance of it happening
in other countries..

pet shop boys are on the parlophone label...

there have been quite a few pet shop boys greatest hits efforts over the years, again some of which have been met with some derision...

but i like the idea of remastered albums with the outtakes, and bonus tracks added...the pet shop boys ones worked pretty well...and they have served their fans pretty well over the years...

to be honest the pet shop boys fan base, i would say is much larger than new orders, and possibly slightly younger still, and as such are more succeptable to buying nice packages...the older you get the less liable that you are to be duped into buying a rehashed old album

anyway, isn't there another new order album around the corner...can't see anything until thats out of the way...

oh yea - that future retro disc is actually not that bad

...I mean, sure some tracks are total crap - but the strength of a few tracks definitely evens it all out, you know?

more New Order news:

http://www.neworderonline.com/News/N...px?NewsID=1211

this is the Live gig i went to last year (Hyde Park), which was great, looking forward to seeing the US part of this live set too...

i'm glad NO are releasing these live DVD sets every couple of years, at least they are using a popular medium which fans can get decent quality recordings of their shows, the 511 & 316 sets are great, and this one should be just as good...

shame they don't play live that often though....

yea - the two previous live dvd's were pretty good

although, I do hope that this new one eventually gets a region one release... I forget which one (511 or 316) but I ended up ordering a Canadian import for it - b/c there was such a delay on the US release

by the way...

did anyone end up getting any of the 12X12 's?
honestly, after I listened to the samples of the mixes I didn't have... I wasn't feeling them that much, you know?

i have them all...its a nice set, nothing that special, but they look nice and sound great - and they are clean unplayed (mint) which a lot of my old new order vinyl wasn't, so its good to own - i've put them in potective plastic sleeves as the white sleeves are pretty flimsy, but they are a nice set..

are they worth £40...yeah - i think so...
