Underworld in DJMag. Again.
Underworld duo Karl Hyde and RIck Smith have set up a new band with composer Gabriel Yared. The as-yet-unnamed outfit will put our their first single by the end of the year.
"The new band will be like what we do with underworld but not so groove-heavy" explained Karl. "There will also be a lot of electronics, grand piano, acoustic guitar and vocals." Karl and Rick met Gabriel when they were working on the score for new Hollywood movie 'Breaking and Entering' staring Jude Law and Juliet Binoche. In the past Gabriel has composed the scores for box office hits 'The Talented Mr Ripley' and 'Betty Blue'. Underworld are working on the band in line with their new download-only Riverrun Project, available through their www.underworldlive.com website. "We are calming down our touring this year to focus on our new band," said Karl. "We're also planning separate projects with Brian Eno and Sven Vath." hmmm interesting stuff to follow...? :) i hope that doesnt mean no live dates tho! perhaps a couple of brixton academy dates? please? :D |

It'll be interesting to hear what a less "groove-heavy" Underworld-ish thing sounds like...more tranditional songs? More experimental/freeform? Just so long as it doesn't sound like UWmkI:p |
Re: Underworld in DJMag. Again.
wait... so underworld are no longer underworld? WTF?

Re: Underworld in DJMag. Again.
Hmmmm......
I'm assuming this is the new "Underworld" album that the press has been hinting at that's been slated for an early 2007 release. I wonder if we will be getting a more traditional UW album before that. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if the UW sounds that we're all used to will only be released through the website, but I hope I'm wrong. |

Underworld + Sven Vath = Happy Jason Roth
:D |
Re: Underworld in DJMag. Again.
I really think we'll hear more of Underworld as we know them. I don't think they're unhappy with things as they are, but I'm sure they're excited to branch out and try new things. I don't think UW will EVER have enough creative outlets to completely please them.
As a musician, finding another musician that "clicks" with me is very exciting and hard to find. That's probably all that is happening with the new band. I bet we'll keep hearing from Underworld (R&K) for a really long time. Plus they have to keep working at UW... I haven't seen them live yet! |
Re: Underworld in DJMag. Again.
so Underworld is a "river" thats "run" it's course.
A new band, name, etc will allow them to release stuff without being worried of paying royalties to JBO, Emerson, V2 etc.....perhaps?;) |

Ditto. They need to come to the U.S. again and do some shows. Then they can do whatever this is because I'll be able to die happy. :)
