New Underworld album?!

Sorry if this is a re-post but I haven't been able to find any solid info by searching the forum.

What's the deal with the new UW album? When will it be released? Will it feature tracks from the download only-instalments? Is it a studio album? Any info is apreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: New Underworld album?!

At the moment the band are releasing mp3s through www.underworldlive.com. We know (or we think we know) that an album is on its way from comments in recent interviews with Karl Hyde, but as yet we have no idea of when it is likely to be released.

However, the band are also working on a film score for the new Anthony Mingella film, Breaking and Entering, which is due out in the spring, so there is bound to be an OST album of that I would have thought.

PS: Mr Moderator-In-Chief, can we make this thread a "sticky" so that new visitors to the board can find the info easily? Pretty please? :)

Re: New Underworld album?!

i think ONE OF the moderators needs to get in here and answer this question as for myself and MANY others on here dont seem to be on the same page in regards to if/when an album will be released.

the way i see it, no album (cd album) is going to be released anytime soon. like not for years yet a few others keep saying, "this should be on the album." what album?

so the question is:

**********************************
is there going to be an Underworld album (cd / vinyl -- NOT A SINGLE) proper released or is the RiverRun Project taking its place?
**********************************

i dont think tht is asking much and honestly, i dont know the reason for mystifying this anymore than it has.

I'm with Potato...I don't think an album is on its way either...

but it has been mystified to an annoying degree...so much so, that many of us have resorted to adhering to differrent schools of thought on how to interpret Karl's words in his interviews ;)

Re: New Underworld album?!

where in his interviews do you interpret that a proper album isn't coming out "for years"?

you guys are so silly.

i'm saying with 100 percent confidence we're having an album by June, and that's a generous estimate.

i agree...

we'll have a soundtrack album in the spring (which is a good enough start), a proper 'holdable' album by the middle of next year, and perhaps a lot more...with the prospect of a 4 piece follow up to the soundtrack and a 4 piece tour...the boys have enough material to stick on an album, and KH has said that standard issue releases are on the way....

The soundtrack and possible second LP from the film sessions are forthcoming, sure.

But as for a proper Underworld release (i.e. CD you can buy in stores on an international label), i'm not convinced we've been given any indication of when this will happen, other than that UW will still do it at some point. Karl said there'd be some 12" vinyls w/remixes for the clubs derived from RiverRun tracks. But a new UW album? i dunno when... yes, a lot is going on in the camp, and it's a great time for new music from uwlive. i don't think with RiverRun and the film score there's a rush to oversaturate the scene with a traditional album.

Re: New Underworld album?!

Dubman, read all the posts in this thread. Isnt that proof enough that communication regarding an 'album' is severly fucked? ;)

i interpret all the interviews by Karl to mean that NO album will be released and RiverRun is in fact, THE album. Of course we know that there will be singles released as well as the soundtrack, but no album.

A portion titled "JAL to Tokyo" received remix treatment from house DJ Paul Woolford and has been making a stir among club mavens. It will be followed by remixes from Martinez, Paul Heller, and Robag Wruhme.

where do you see any mention of a proper album release?

again, why is this such a big secret that someone 'in the know' cant answer it? hell, even a "karl: we arent sure" is better than all this talk of, "this track better be on the album and this one shouldnt be."

im trying to explain to friends who are new to Underworld about RRP and they ask, "ooh thats cool, but when is the album coming out." to which i reply, "um, this is the album" to which they say, "no no. the real album."

frankly, i dont know what to say at that point.

This gets kind of annoying, if there are people that say there are interviews where Karl stated that there will be an album, you ignore them? silly, just silly.

For all people that aren't thick skulled as others. Don't let posts like this confuse you please.
There will be an album Karl told (amongst others) Rob da Bank who said so during his BBC radio 1 show. When? I don't know, there wasn't a date nore exact time (not even the exact second, I know, they should be hanged for that) given yet.

The rumours going round are:

January/Feb: another RRP
Spring: Soundtrack
Summer: Album

there. now run off to your friends and let them buy you drinks.

Well I'm not sure I enjoy being called, "thick skulled" Lloyd (actually I'm not really sure that was even aimed at me.) about a topic as devoid of fact as this.

But of the 8 or so posters in this thread, at least 3 of us interpretted K's comments as having no mention of a proper UW cd.

And while im not looking for a release date in here, Lloyd, and that never was my intention. All I asked in my original question was for someone with a bit more than heresay to post whether or not there would be a proper CD released or if RRP was taking the place of a proper CD release.

Ive gone through 4 or 5 interviews and just dont see where you all are getting your information from (but i'll admit i did not hear the Rob Da Bank interview)

But i certainly dont consider Cadevil, myself or Holden to be 'thick skulled' because we intrepret an interview differently than yourself.

Right, but was Karl talking about the soundtrack album or a studio Underworld album? They are different things. And i don't think it's being thick-skulled to think reasonably about the likelihood of several online releases, 2 sounndtrack albums, a 4-person live setting, and THEN an Underworld album...doesn't that sound like a little bit much for a band that's already working very hard?

*sigh*

i'm sorry i brought this up. i didnt mean for it to turn to sarcasm. but i still read nothing that says what you say it does. i DO believe you though as you read far more interviews than i do.

"Karl also says Underworld will be back to proper record company releases in the future but they would like to experiment for a couple of years."

this much i knew. it just seemed that a good number of dirts were speaking of this 'album' as if it was stated definitively somewhere that i had yet to see.

Re: New Underworld album?!

all this talk impies that an album isn't already finished, and it may well be, but might just need polishing...

the more pressing issue is a soundtrack for a film which has a release date...so thats first for sure...so perhaps rather than putting eggs in one basket - they are working hard on the soundtrack project first

an album may only require a couple of months touching up and be ready for release sooner than you all think...

and lets not fret - we already have 50+ minutes of new material as ep like downloads, plus vinyl coming in the new year...

what more do you want, blood? ;)

I think people were thinking of a new album the day after AHDO was released (or maybe even when the release date for AHDO was announced). People are still talking about a new My Bloody Valentine album and it's been 14 years since Loveless. If I said I wanted something to be on "the" album, it would just be whatever new album comes out, no matter how long it actually takes.

Air Towel and Puppies were being played live in 1994, one ended up on an album, the other as on an ep, but it still took 2 years for these songs to be released. I think anything they have has a potential to be on some kind of cd release in the future.

So yeah "album" as in "a potential cd that might or might not be released sometime in my lifetime" :)

if this is the case, then that is perhaps what caused much of the confusion for me. all my original question was looking for was a bit of clarity on the whole download : album confusion.

dont forget, some are saying that there is a proper CD coming in the summer. thats hardly 2 years.

i was never looking for a date. i was never looking for a tracklisting. if in an article somewhere karl was quoted as saying, "we plan to put out an album release sometime in the near future" that would have answered my question. thing is, i have yet to see that type of quote.

so take that confusion and couple it with the fact that some dirts are saying, "this would be great on the new album" and you have my motivation for clarification. i just wanted to know where everyone was reading that a proper album was coming because i sure as heck didnt find it on my own or in any articles that i read.

thats all. it was a simple question really. Stimp listed the believed rumors, and his word is usually pretty good to go on, so i'll go with that for now.

I'm sorry, it wasn't Rob da Bank's show. It was the interview with Pete Tong.

Excrept of interview with karl by pete tong Essential Selection 2005-11-04

K: It isn't an either/or really, we still wanne make phisical things. I'm a recordjunky I like going out and cruising the stores and find (stuff) of off the rack. This is just an initial sort of way of working were we can speed up the process. Once when things are finished to be able to make it available...

*done a quick transcript and it sounds like it was cut-up after recording to make it even harder to understand

ok that interview i did hear/read. :)

...and that is precisely why i asked my original question. take that interview, coupled with the quote you posted earlier about wanting to experiment for a few years and you should get to my conclusion. i trust all of you because well, youve all been the source of my info for the past 6+ years :D -- but i still dont see where you are all getting it from :P

Personally, as long as there is Underworld stuff released, I couldnt care if its in the shops or not or if its "the album". There will be an album, so why worry? Lets just say its "after the soundtrack" which is "spring". I think thats accurate enough for now.

As for bigscreensatellite's statement that "we already have 50+ minutes of new material as ep like downloads", its actually 73mins 14seconds of official releases in the last month. Add to that the stuff that's been released for free on dirty radio and underworldlive.com and its quite a lot of stuff. be thankful.

potatobroth 12-08-2005 11:53 AM

Re: New Underworld album?!

this didnt start out as a 'be thankful' thread. it started out as a curiousity i had. thats all. this had nothing to do with how much new material was being made, how much new material was downloadable. it only pertained to the chatter on the forums about a 'new album' and my desire to know if that were really the case. weeks of this turned into confusion for myself, and others. i just decided to ask for a definitive word on it rather than keeping with speculation.

im thankful. i read. im not thick-skulled. i purchase. i cross seas to purchase. i listen. i love it all.

but you've hit the best yet, Stimp. "after the soundtrack" is a great place to start.

I think I'll just keep ignoring...;) :D

And if it helps, I'm just as thankful for the new music as potato...

Everyone's gotta relax...people were just asking if "anyone knew anything," because of the fact that the question, "When is the album coming?" has reached mythic proportions. This is actually a good thing for the band...It creates a lot of buzz. I have friends that are only marginally interested in Underworld asking me when the new album comes out.

yet I remain a happy, thankful, faithful UW fan.

I'm sure that there will be a new album soon; but let's look at it this way for now; with the RRP's we already have about an album's worth of material, not to mention lots of pictures to go with the albums, plus artwork. We've also got new live recordings for download, and the promise of the soundtrack to Minghella's film soon, so we're not going to get let down, I think we can be sure of that.
