Come & tell us what you think...
We are interested to get your opinions about the band and music in general.
We’re on the lookout for real, hardcore fans to attend a intimate London-based forum on Monday 26th January. This will be happening after working hours and anyone who takes part will receive a fixed contribution to their expenses and a little something from us. To register your interest please email simon.mcmahon@umusic.com with your contact details, age and letting us know your favourite thing (music, performance or otherwise) about Underworld. Thanks Underworld [HQ] |

Interest registered!

Re: Come & tell us what you think...
Sounds horribly corporate to me - 'hey Rick and Karl, Universal's marketing department says you need to write more lager-related songs, mmkay?', but I guess I'll give it a go.
|
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
we could also tune in digitally via the inter tubes. SKYPE?
|
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
Sounds like an interesting "Any ideas how to market Underworld's next thing, whatever the next thing is..?" - given that it's now five years since the last pop album. I've been to one before, they are really quite intruiging and it's good to see they are doing something like this.
Interest registered. ;) |
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
An internet stream would be wonderful!
|
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
If a web stream/skype like situation isnt in the cards, could we find a way to get questions or comments from those of us not local into the mix? Perhaps a dirty forum memver would be willing to ask on our behalf? Perhaps a few choice questions can be asked by the organizer of all this?
If so, could we set up a poll or something to choose, as a community, which questions those would be? |
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
Is it only someone that can reach London with less than a weeks notice that is considered a real, hardcore fan? I guess my years of collecting, listening, watching and writing doesn't count.
Yeah there are some things that the band are not in complete control of, or restricted by budget that could be 'improved' (e.g. Merchandise, Tour, Live Stage Setup, Back Catalogue, Dog Tags). But what I really want from UW is to just to continue any creative output they feel is right for them! (p.s. Universal - there are about 25,000+ posts on this forum if you need to use them). |

One would think that the tremendously positive response to the dubno shows would be proof that uw is a legacy, with strong fan base. Barking, their most populist record, sold well, but so did the more experimental OWB, the record Karl said Rick always wanted to make. Any fan, hardcore or not, will have an opinion on "what's best" for the band, but as Mike states above, I would think the cross sectional viewpoint is, just release what you want, we'll listen, discuss and enjoy! Anything beyond sound like corporate tinkering with the creative process. |
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
what would be great, is a return to the more 'improvised' shows from the OWB tour
I mean, it's a bit boring when you know EXACTLY what song is going to come up next, and how it's going to be played sure, they might've had some form of set list on that tour - but didn't they not make the order until the last second, or something? Also, WITHIN the actual songs, there were a lot of little differences between each show ...while on the Barking Tour... pretty much straight forward album versions (edit) also... it's a bit crap that a group of people, who just happen to live in a certain area... are "superfans" |
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
my instant reaction to this thread was to sigh and maybe even groan.
also agree with Joe. Love the live show, but love it more having no idea what to expect. |
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
Did anyone hear back from Universal?
|
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
I haven't heard a thing. Anyone would think they think that my six hours of homemade remixes isn't hardcore enough!
|
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
not a thing...
|
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
Fuck-all
|
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
They probably we're think the kind of people who'll buy anything with their name on, with isn't the case at all.
|
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
Bummerworld.
|
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
Maybe the meeting will be full of people who "want more of The Lager Song"?
|
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
Pffft. That's their debut single! Etc.
|
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
i guess the 25 or 50 of us who have been here since the brown forum days don't qualify as hardcore.
|
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
How far back was that? I was on the mail list in 97ish? I dread to think the addled crap I weebled on about then.

Re: Come & tell us what you think...
The ultra fan bar is being reset. Who will win? Come on, someone has to have been a pen pal with members of Freur, or gone to nursery school with Rick and complimented his toy piano compositions!
Seriously, you're all great. And it makes me nostalgic to remember the old times on dirty, a little sad too how many have moved on, and all have changed, UW included. That'd be the best input I could give to the label...things change, hopefully improve. I hope the next Underworld music sounds like the future, not the past. |
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
Yeah, i was there on the Listserve too... I just used the brown forum as a baseline! :)
|
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
Deafening from Underworld HQ too...
|
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
Instagram showed them doing testing on new funktion 1 gear on Monday. I wonder if this was prematurely organized by the record label without much discussion with the band or something. Maybe it got cancelled? Whatever the case, the lack of communication about these things is pretty lame.

Re: Come & tell us what you think...
I hope someone asked them to release Five Points.

So, no-one went?
|
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
Nobody was asked...
|
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
I hope that the people who went didn't consist of Kidults who only want Underworld to "Large"!! it up and go back to Barking. I would like to see them steer to the ethos of Oblivion with Karl bringing more guitar etc otherwise I like them to be their own creators as they always have been.

Re: Come & tell us what you think...
Oh I do agree. Five Points is a wicked track. What ever happened to that one guys. Was that ever played more than once?
O Also concur. I dont care what you do as long as you go back to playing more improv live. I think we can all agree on that one. For gods sake who cares what the lighting guys think. I dont travel to see underworld for the dam lighting!!! |
Re: Come & tell us what you think...
Five Points only haas one outing though it was thankfully recorded. Sounds to developed to be an improv.
