Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
Does anyone know... the Deluxe CD says it's a 2CD version - any idea what's on the second disc?
(Wondering if I need vinyl & CD here or not LOL) |
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
Four bonus tracks apparently
|
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
Do the other half and I buy two CDs or a CD and a vinyl? (but then who gets them?!) Also that 24 bit WAV download looks tasty toooooo.
|
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
according to warp's site (http://warp.net/records/enohyde/someday-world-out-may), the bonus tracks are:
01. Big Band Song 02. Brazil 3 03. Celebration 04. Titian Bekh here's a large version of the album cover: http://www.enohyde.com/img/warp249_packshot.jpg |
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
Guessing these tracks were born out of the Pure Scenious shows?
Also, i sure would like to hear a track before a pre-order... |
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
Wasn't there a Brian Eno/Underworld track on an old radio show? Sure they talked about fishing.

Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
There was an Underworld/Eno jam track on the 2008-12-11 Bungalow with Stairs show.
|
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
Wasn't Beebop Hurry a Hyde / Eno collaboration? It seems to me that it's something purely experimental and highly improvised. May be cool or it could just be really good background music, say, for an art exhibition. :D
I think I just might wait for this to drop on Spotify so I can sample. I'd probably opt for the vinyl on this release for collection purposes. |
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
There's a 24-bit WAV file version available on the Underworld Shop

|
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
Extra tracks on the CD only?

Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
Dear Brian/Karl,
Could anyone get rid of those brass stabs? Or get a real brass section? Thanks, -thingee |
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
Has vague notions of New Order towards the end.
|
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
I like that a lot.
|
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
Hmmm… I like the structure and the melody, even though it sounds like an old synth pop (I think it´s called) sometimes, but it feels unfinished in a way.
Would have been nice with real brass instruments indeed and better vocals (sorry but I do love Karl´s voice :) ) |
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
Yeah! It's upbeat :) well maybe not upbeat. Maybe I mean uptempo. Point is I like it too - definitely a New Order vibe.
|
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
I'm not sure what to say about this. The horns, on first 2 listens, really cheapen the overall piece quite a bit. It reminded me of They Might Be Giants - before TMBG could afford to hire a brass section to record/tour with them; I like TMBG.
But it just sounds really disconnected to me. Right now. Music does tend to grow on me, but if this wasn't Hyde or Eno I wouldn't have given it the second listen. Maybe I'll go at it again tomorrow and see how it feels. |
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
I'm iffy on it myself. For what it's worth, though, I usually need the context of an album to really get something. Cut Clouds didn't do to much for me at first, either.

Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
Nice surprise. I like that better than anything on Edgeland.
|
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
Similar response to many - i like hearing Karl's voice on something new, but the track, as a whole, sounds dated and random. Not every creative output is ready for mass audience.
Here's hoping the rest of the LP is more introspective. Personally, i like the jazzy improv of "Beebop Hurry" and the minimal compositions of "edgeland". |
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
Hmmmm, yeah. :( Not even something that I would listen to for a second time to get used to or "learn to like it" etc. Really not looking forward to this album...even less than I was before I heard it, ugh.
|
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
i think it's the shittiest thing i've ever heard kh be a part of. the brass is awful, teh vox is treated poorly and lyrically it says nothing to me. where is the emotion and the space?
i pre ordered the vinyl before i heard the first track. it can only get better. |
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
I almost feel guilty about how unexcited I am for an Eno/Hyde album. :\

Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
hmm
|
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
hmm, indeed!
The 30 seconds or so of preview were in the same vein as the first promo track - jittery beats and 80's synths, with Karl's clean vocals atop. Maybe i'll grow to like to whole track, but in a quick burst, it wasn't super exciting... EDIT: listened to the 3:26 track at the link provided above. Same feelings that this was a rushed partnership, where the snippets of songs were expanded beyond their strength. It just sounds dated, sorry! |
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
for my tastes, this album is 0 for 2.

Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
There is a 750 copy limited edition version of the vinyl coming out. The limited part is an exclusive art print included (I don't think it's signed or anything). Apparently this edition is only available through indie record stores in the UK and EU.
You can find it by Googling for the catalog number: WARPLP249X For example, here are some retailers: http://www.roughtrade.com/albums/81573 http://www.piccadillyrecords.com/pro...arp-95909.html http://www.normanrecords.com/records...someday-world- http://www.recordstore.co.uk/records...nt/3A840000000 |
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
I just wish i cared… sadly I don't.

npr is streaming the whole thing here:
http://www.npr.org/2014/04/27/306161...-someday-world i'm in track 5 and i'm liking it. it's super fun, even if it's a bit noisey sometimes. |
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
From the NPR article:
[clip] That collaborative spirit continues with Someday World — recorded with former Underworld member/vocalist Karl Hyde — which includes 12 other players, including Roxy Music's own Andy Mackay. [clip] |
Re: NEW ALBUM: Someday World (hyde+eno)
The version i see reads thusly:
"That collaborative spirit continues with Someday World — recorded with Underworld member/vocalist Karl Hyde — which includes 12 other players, including Roxy Music's own Andy Mackay. For many U.S. listeners, Underworld remains a one-hit wonder, responsible for the raging techno of "Born Slippy" from the Trainspotting soundtrack." |
