Hey -
This is happening tonight - anyone know if there is a support act - and also likely setlist? Would be hugely grateful if someone could post the actual setlist afterwards... |

Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010
Anyone know what time they are due on tonight, tried ringing the forum direct but only got info about whoever was playing last night
|
Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010
I did the same - called the Forum earlier today but got the out of date recorded message.
So I checked the opening times - they say they're open from 4pm to 8pm so I suggest trying to ring back then and seeing if the info is up to date for the start of the show... |
Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010
probably fair to assume the boys won't be on before 9...
(spare ticket going should anybody... pm etc...) |
Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010

:) |
Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010
can't tell you the full setlist but i remember a storming moaner... an ok res/cowgirl (the res bit didn't quite bite, the cowgirl did), a pretty cool KOS, all the expected tracks from the new album - scribble stood out for me. Two months off was in there. Oh I enjoyed bornSlippy.NUXX for the first time in ages. Good vocals... some missing beeps though i had to fill in in my head :)
felt like there was a big separation between the bangers and the anthems, iyswim No bamboo either :) heh |
Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010
Set list exactly the same as usual, but pearls girl and mnr added at the end as an encore. Pearls girl and mmr were storming. Great atmosphere. Slightly different ending to between stars but no suprises really. Proper up-tempo gig :-) appleblim was good too.

Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010
I made the mistake of making assumptions about this gig as I seem to remember "One Off" and "Exclusive" being banded about. I assumed that there would be more from Barking, what was aired was excellent, Diamond Jigsaw got a lot of people moving (Considering that most people there may, if at all) only heard it in the last couple of days.
KOS onward almost felt like another act, I left during Moaner....Which worked out quite well in my favour, got the last singed "wnjr" Tee, which my wife will only be allowed to wear on special occasions. Between Stars & Diamond Jigsaw as much as I enjoyed them split they set in two Ooooh/oh. Not sure if it was the rigidity compared to the other B stuff... http://i56.tinypic.com/33arjw2.jpg <-- Looks like Steve & Mike are praying. http://i51.tinypic.com/s3q64z.jpg |

Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010
Am I the only one who found this gig disappointing? Far too much off Barking which alienated most of the crowd. There were no surprises or memorable moments for me in this gig, no Banstyle or the like chucked in. I'd love to hear what others think. Am I being too hard or maybe my expectations were set too high?
|
Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010
I didn't think it was so much alienation, more lack of familiarity as the album was only released a few days ago.

Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010
i wasn't there obviously.... but it was billed as a Barking launch gig... so five songs from the album - all of which were the upbeat numbers, plus Downpipe, which by all accounts only just missed being included on the album, isn't a bad return for your money... i wouldn't have expected a much different playlist... and as much as i like the mellower tracks - it would have brought down the mood to play the others in a show like this....
not sure what people are expecting... for most people this will be the first time that these songs have been played to them live...Underworld are not doing gigs for 'hardcore fans' at the moment (or any more ?) (go back home and dig into the live archives for these types of gigs... even dig out the Tokyo CD - thats epic enough...) Obviously you still get the crowd pleasers of moaner / bs etc... sounded like an upbeat set... they've been doing these tracks for years, so its easy to make them sound the same... the newer stuff is taking time to get right and for the main, the guys seem to be perfecting these without wanting to mess around with the 'old' established tracks to give hardcore fans a 'geeky' - 'wasn't that unique' moment.... at the moment you are not going to get any Underworld gigs with long interludes and epic tracks... they've done that over many years... the type of audience that likes to see UW these days (i.e. the festival goers) needs quick fix - quick beats guick thrills and this is what this gig does... ticks all those boxes its memorable big tunes with singalong / dancealong anthems... it might not be UW of old, but this is a new era Underworld - doing whats wanted of them by the majority - and in these hard times... the guys seem to be enjoying giving people what they want, its not like its shit music... its a new Era Underworld - but its still Underworld - and I think the team are really enjoying it.... |

atmosphere was great, band played better at roundhouse and sounded better but as a gig it was ace. |
Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010
I really enjoyed the gig because it was uptempo - but I have to say I would love to hear more mixing between tracks and 'interlude' tracks (i.e. Pricey's tunes). I am kind of hoping that this was still Underworld in 'festival' mode and if you think about it, the set list was EXACTLY the same as the festival shows except that they had 15mins to fill in at the end to make it upto the 2 hours. It was still a promotional gig with huge guest list, like the iTunes festival, etc.
I dont mind the quick beats and quick thrills! But the odd 'suprise' quick thrill would be great. For example they shortened TMO to fit into a 'no track longer than 6/7mins set' and I'm sure they could do the same with others (thinking of when they mixed Pearls Girl into Push on Tokyo 3CD). I have seen them so many times now, and I keep going back to see them because there is always something different between each show. Interestring that none of the OWB tracks are making the setlist - I guess the mood of them is completely different to Barking. I'm not complaning by the way as I had a top night and its great to see the guys obviously enjoying themselves! |

Hope the set is mixed up a bit for the tours. This should be in thoery the end of the "standard" set. |

Normally I don't have any expectations for a show/gig, this time I did which was a mistake on my part. I am not saying that I didn't enjoy it. |
Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010
We had a great time at the show last night. It was more or less the same set from the iTunes festival, so no major surprises, but the encore was tremendous. Pearl's Girl growled and snapped at the crowd from somewhere inside a dense cloud of smoke. Then Moaner brought everyone to the edge of a nervous breakdown.
Top night. |
Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010
Firstly, I think it is worth putting any complaining about the setlist from last night’s show into perspective. We should probably bear in mind that some of us that live within a reasonable distance of London are perhaps a little spoiled by being able to see the guys on virtually every tour.
Last time I saw the band we were fortunate enough to hear ‘Parc’, ‘Spoonman’, ‘Oich Oich’ and ‘Rowla’. However, I’m sure some of our forum colleagues living in places that aren’t frequented by Underworld quite as often would appreciate the opportunity to even hear ‘Nuxx’ or ‘Two Months Off’ yet again! (or even for the very first time!) :) That aside, I really enjoyed last night’s show. It delivered exactly what I expected an ‘album launch’ gig would – a significant showing from the new record peppered with a few of the more obvious favourites. The only semi-surprise was ‘Pearl’s Girl’ (was expecting ‘Jumbo’) but the encore was superb and definitely pushed the whole show for me from ‘good’ to ‘great’. Hopefully now that the summer festivals, iTunes gig and the album launch are out of the way we will see something of a return to the longer sets with more interludes and maybe a few fan favourites. Also, I only encountered two idiots in the crowd all night. This must be something of a record for a concert in London? :p Always an inspirational evening anyway... I do hope I still have such energy, drive and passion for new music / art when I reach the same age as Karl and Rick... although long may they continue! :) I took lots of pictures (with a real camera, not an iPhone) so will hopefully get those up this evening. |

Really enjoyed this gig, largely because it was the first one I have been to for a couple of years.
(I hate it when real life gets in the way of UW, but anyway....) Loved the new stuff - really good to see so many absolutely loving and singing along to ALAF and Scribble - these both have "anthem" written all over them imo. Good to catch up with some old friends too. All in all a wonderful night. :D |

My two best friends (and fellow long-term UW live gig reprobates) were at the gig and one of them (Martin) got stopped outside to give an impromptu video review. Here it is:

Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010
I can't believe he wasn't crying about the set being the same as the other shows.

Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010
A whole bunch of people's opinions on the show here:
http://www.winkball.com/walls/Gig_Re...rld_at_hmv_fo/ Wow, one guy traveled from Tehran for the show. Hardcore! |

And while the setlist may have been the same (apart from the encore), at least it wasn't a Chemical Brothers gig where, if you had heard an earlier set from the tour, you could actually predict the next note to come along, never mind the next song! This is an album launch tour - they have decided to try something new for a change, and have a fixed set list. So what? It is still brilliant when you're there. :) |
Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010
People on here are uber fans. It's well within understanding to critique. We all love the band and most of us have seen them live many times. That said what stood out for me in their live shows was their energy and the fact that you had noidea what's coming next. This tour so far sounds exactly like the album versions of Barking and the best-of from their last few tours. For new fans it'll be great. For some of us it'll be a step down.
Now of all the shows ive seen I still think Atlanta 2008 was the best so it's not a matter of me longing for the past. :) |

people on here are uber fans but most people at the gigs aren't. the show's for everyone and most of the "non" uber's will have no idea what song is coming after the next and won't have read set lists from festivals in eastern europe etc etc. there's no future for r&k playing 3 hour extended jam's of "oich oich" even if we'd all love it. i think "barking" and the current gigs are designed to appeal to a younger gig going crowd and promoters who hear the music on annie mac, pete tong etc etc and who'll be at the festivals next year. "things are constantly changing" haha |
Re: Kentish Town Forum 16-09-2010
Oh we're all aware that the average concert goer in any given city isn't on dirty. thats been documented many times on these forums.
i just didn't want to feel 'wrong' for critiquing the live shows from an mega-fan point of view. As a mega-fan, its sad to see the live show slip into convention. They tried this once before awhile back. I forget exactly when, but it was received the exactly the same way. Starty-stoppy songs, in an expected set list. Blah. And I'm not convinced by this whole 'album promotion' tour as a reason to play the same set. They play the east coast of the US once or twice every 3 years. Its not like they'll be back around in January and then we'll get the more showy show. This is the show we get. Disclaimer: the points above are just observations. i'm still thrilled as hell to see them live again. |
