Lovely Broken Thing

the first track... listening to it now... eww... this is awful. this doesn't sound like the stuff they were playing in concert at all.

Re: Lovely Broken Thing

the second track... a lot more ambient and much more promising than the first track. that first track was some awful shite. sounded like someone farting into a pillow. this one reminds me a little bit of the quiet part at the beginning of genesis' 'Duchess'.

Re: Lovely Broken Thing

the third track... sounds like more of the first.. or like steve hackett's 'a tower struck down'.

hey, bryantm3, as much as i'm with you for your love of Genesis (and other projects Genesis related), i'm not hearing the similarities

but i hope you're liking what you're hearing after JAL to Tokyo!

Re: Lovely Broken Thing

not as much sounds the same, but serves the same purpose in the track... if that makes any sense.
fourth track... sounds like some weird singing under a waterfall.. i can hear the intro to lenny penne now.

Re: Lovely Broken Thing

it's like every other UW release:

You'll HATE (!) it on first listen
You'll sort of warm to it a couple of listens after
Two weeks later you'll be singing along to the poetry
A few days after that you'll be turning it up and considering it a good one.

Weirdest thing.....

Very...., er, useful information  ?

I can clearly see why you need a new thread for this. Although on the other hand, that might be a very good thing this it might ensure that your ranting stays isolated...

EDIT:

@The Mongoose

I do not "always hate an Underworld track at first" :) .

Re: Lovely Broken Thing

the last two tracks were pretty good. but i really wish that they would never ever release track 1 and 3. those are the most horrible tracks i have ever heard from underworld.

It'll grow on you. Trust me.

I totally agree with you.
for lenny penne the first listening was not amazing, but when they played it in live... it was huge!

Re: Lovely Broken Thing

I dont understand the concept of "hating" an Underworld release upon first listening to it. That seems odd to me.
I get it that some songs may not click at first and eventually kinda grow on you, but hate is a strong word... !!!
I havent heard Lovely Broken Thing yet...but when I do, I'll be sure to take notice of #1 and #3.

Are you out of your mind? Those are the two best ones on the release...

Re: Lovely Broken Thing

the vocals sound garbled and awful. it sounds like what hell would be like.

dubman 11-13-2005 08:05 AM

Re: Lovely Broken Thing

obviously you haven't been privy to the stylish and articulate musings of a band called Anal Cunt.

anyway, i'm with the numbers guy. you're dissing on the two best tracks there.
very confusing.

He obviously never heard of vocoders :)

I love JAL to Tokyo. I always try to sing along. Even if i don't have the full lyrics on screen to follow :)

that was my initial reaction to Jal on This Thread

now I'd say that I love the plucking bass synth lead and that Karl says "Fuck It" and that ending is such a nice buildup......etc.

not an album quality track but a nice intro into the "B-Side Themed EP";)

:p

I really dig the first track, it's got a nice groove to it.

And I also really like the very last little singing bit by KH. Mmm, magical...

Re: Lovely Broken Thing

its great, and its good value i think. If you go into HMV to buy any back catalogue CD it sets you back £4.99 for a single. This is 30mins, 7 tracks for the same price with a load of art thrown in for good measure.

No complaints.

potatobroth 11-14-2005 09:28 AM

Re: Lovely Broken Thing

my only complaint is that it makes me hungry for more :D
its gonna be real nice when we have 5 or 6 of these to pick from.
