They did play there back in 1995 (most of which was broadcast on Radio 1), so maybe they want to go back and do it again.

|
Re: Underworld live @ The Arches, Glasgow. Early 2006.
i got a feeling it maybe a club event probs a colours night or something but if its their own gig then cool i can see the logic in playing at the arches its a great venue the smaller the better the crowd are closer to the stage etc which is always a good thing in terms of a good atmosphere. Bring it on

Anyway i think a club night would give them more benefits promote them again to the club fraternity and masses again which is much, much needed for the boys. The die hards like us are always going to be here and buy their stuff but thats not enough they need to be recognised again for the scene they represent they need more dance fans buying their albums and gaining an interest again they hit a bit of a block in my opinion with a hundred days off the album was rushed and was in a way a sort of panic album to say that without emerson we will play on but the live shows at that era lacked visuals and character thus why they reverted to playing dirty epic and spoonman surfboy etc because a lot of the a hundred days off tracks could not cut it live in my opinion. |
Re: Underworld live @ The Arches, Glasgow. Early 2006.
might be as exciting as milo then eh?
|
Re: Underworld live @ The Arches, Glasgow. Early 2006.
Mylo is ok live in fact at his own show he bloddy rocked not one person at the gig i went too can say that as soon the intro riff for destroy rock and roll came on the whole place at the barras gig went fucking nuts thats such an effective sample then the visuals kicked in superb !!!!! then finishing with mother fuckers gonna drop the pressure !!!! nuts nuts nuts !!!!!!
Underworld just need something fresh seriously otherwise its the same old born slippy and dark train thats the tracks most folk go mad for at their gigs as they seldom play juanita or mix one track into another anymore seriously if you went to the barras gig in 2002 they looked so routine as if they could not be arsed but i still enjoyed it cause im a fan. |
Re: Underworld live @ The Arches, Glasgow. Early 2006.
yeah mylo rocks live, seen him a couple of times. i don't really listen to the album any more but i'd see him again if convenient...
definitely some good new tracks to play live would be good for underworld. they've already got at least one, i totally love 'you do scribble', superb. then again i've never seen them live so could ideally do with seeing them play for a few hours and raping their entire back catalogue :D |

Tour 2003 played Barrowlands, tour 2004 with above changes, played the Arches as a gig. I can't think of any time when one of the groups the size of Underworld played an Arches club night live. |

Re: Underworld live @ The Arches, Glasgow. Early 2006.
fair point about the underworld sets being a bit samey in the uk for tha last few appearances.when they play at a festi or something like gg or gatecrasher the set seems to be mainly "the hits" when they play abroad at their own shows and they have longer on stage they do play loads of other material.what we need if some of their stand alone shows in the uk.
re milo its new and its fresh but i would compare them more with recent acts that have come and gone like the propellerheads, some of the swedish groups that i can't spell, air, roni size not musically but where they are at careerwise at present.milo has a long way to go before he can be compared to underworld(a string of hit albums, huge live rep, ground breaking inovation) but evryone starts somewhere and milo is much better than most of the acts around at the mo. underworld are just about bangin? mmmmm maybe for some but for others its always been more than that.no problem if thats anyones view but led zep weren't just about whole lotta love, there was stairway to heaven !!!!!!!! |
Re: Underworld live @ The Arches, Glasgow. Early 2006.
Yeh i see what your saying bout its not all bout it being banging i know that but when they made kind of mellow tracks in the past they had an edge and a twist the recent stuff im not a fan of im sorry, but i cant wait to hear the new album when it finally gets released.

Re: Underworld live @ The Arches, Glasgow. Early 2006.
Destroy, i think you seriously underestimate how popular UW are still...UW have headlined every event they have played at this year...
they are worldwide popular and only they and the Prodigy as dance acts are still going and still going strong...Underworld play gigs in Japan, all over Europe and not tiny venues...who are these people that go see them...fans...who've been waiting to see the best live dance band there is...some times a break is good it keeps things fresh...and makes the fans more eager... AHDO may have not done that well, but people still know the big tracks, TMO is a massive tune played live...and to say they have been off the scene for so long is wrong - BS (the remixes came out in 2003), Anthology the same year...New Order have just released an album after 3 years, they didn't go back to small clubs to get support, they played Hyde Park (ok so New Order are a more widely popular band, but even so...fans don't forget...) And also - UW have been keeping their hand in in other ways they were one of the Dance bands that John Peel (Britain's most popular DJ - R.I.P.), most respected - enough so that he asked them, just 1 year a go to sit in and take over his show...now that is profile raising...how many other dance combo's do you see playing 'new & different' music on Britain's largest radio station? UW don't need to re-establish themselves in the market place...the first single when released will get top of the show plays on the national dance music shows, because of what UW have done and still do for dance music...they have the support and respect from almost all DJ's (this is testified by the numerous big name bootleg mixes of their tracks) (plus the numerous DJ's that remixed BS in 2003) (Judge Jules played a remix of Born Slippy just last week...and by all accounts fans go mad for these tracks still) Paul Wooldord, one of Britain's most up and coming Dj's is working on the new single (we believe), as is Pete Heller... People know who Underworld are, and playing club gigs - although nice - isnt going to achieve anything, why play a 1200 capacity venue when you can sell out 5 times that...?? As much as i don't like big field venues like GG or Homelands, i think the numbers of people that actually stand and appreciate them when playing is testament to their popularity....people all over the the world are crying out to see UW, North, South America...Canada, Japan, East / West Europe, Ireland, Britain...and will sell out most dates on any forthcoming tours... and one final thing UW have to play a mixture of new and old in any gig, they have started playing new material, new versions of old songs (mixing them in as well) and some classics that people always want to hear...you are not gonna get UW playing a gig of entirely new tunes... UW are unique and i'd personally be surprised to see them play a small club venue to get back into things...they are already playing big venues, generating support, they don't need to go back to the old days...those days of dance music are gone.... |

Underworld may not NEED support by playing 'small' venues, it is very possible that they enjoy playing that kind of gig. They played Heineken Music Hall last summer which has a capacity of around 4500 people and I suppose that it was quite packed, although I don't remember it selling out. Now Underworld will play at 013, which has a maximum capacity of 2200 people⦠|
