New Single: Scribble - Digital Download Out Now: Details here!

The first new Underworld music in two and a half years is available!

Described as a gene-splice between Yellow Magic Orchestra and Grooverider blasting out over the dancefloor at Fabric on a Friday night, Scribble is a writing and production collaboration with Hospital recording artist High Contrast. Scribble is the first track taken from Underworld’s forthcoming sixth studio album which is due at the end of the summer. Hope you like it.

Artwork: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...0L._SS500_.jpg

Here are the links to buy your digital download:
Juno (EU) (192kbps, 320kbps, WAV) €3.25 / €4.75 / €6.50 (extra €0.44/€0.51 for Paypal, extra €2.41 for a CD)
Amazon DE (256 Kbps MP3) €2.18

iTunes (UK) (256 Kbps AAC) £2.97
iTunes (US) (256 Kbps AAC) $2.97
Amazon USA (256 Kbps MP3) $2.89
Amazon UK (256 Kbps MP3) £2.37
7Digital UK (320 Kbps MP3, 320 Kbps AAC) £2.37 / €2.97
HMV Digital (UK) (320 Kbps MP3) £2.37
Napster US/UK (256 Kbps MP3 - CBR LAME 3.98)
Tesco UK (320 Kbps MP3) £2.37
Play.com (UK) (320 Kbps MP3)
Walmart.com (US) (256 Kbps MP3) $2.82
Beatport (US) (320 Kbps MP3 - LAME, 192 Kbps AAC, WAV)

The regular price seems to be $0.99 / €0.99 / £0.79, so anything cheaper than $/€2.97 / £2.37 is discounted. Juno is €1.25/€1.75 for 192/320kbps so its only recommended if you want the whole package in WAV.

The single package is available on Beatport (at least in the USA) for $5.97, and in uncompressed form plus $3 for "WAV handling" (yeah, i know i know). Due to country restrictions, only the Netsky remix is available in the UK or in The Netherlands.

The tracklisting:
1. Scribble (Album Version) 7:07
2. Scribble (Radio Edit) 3:52
3. Scribble (Netsky Remix) 6:20

Cheapest ways to get the single:
mp3: Amazon.de is €2.18 for the whole package
mp3: Underworldlive.com has the edit for free, to buy the other two versions costs €2.28.
WAV: Underworldlive.com has the whole package for €5.71, Juno is €6.50

The 3 versions are now all available in uncompressed WAV from the UnderworldLive.com shop. The instrumental seen on the promo is not available at all as yet, who knows when?

My original opinion on this is: Why does it have to be so difficult?
My new opinion: Why did this take so long and why was it broken for over a month during what should have been intense promotion?

Re: New Single: Scribble - Digital Download Out Now: Details here!

so do any of these channels offer non mp3/AAC versions?

edit
And why the fuck is the release on Beatport restricted ("not available in your territory")?
Who are they selling this to then?
I can only buy the Netsky remix!

iTunes and 7 Digital only offer compressed files. All the others are not available here in Holland.

Hey Underworld, I'd like to, you know, buy your music. Preferably not trough iTunes (yeah I know you guys love your Apples, but some of us are actually happy using Windows) and most definitely in an uncompressed format (FLAC, wav or aiff). I pay with real moneys. Why are you making this so hard for me?

I thought iTunes had a Windows interface as well...

it does, but I do not want to have to install it in order to buy one track. And even then iTunes doesn't offer uncompressed files (AFAIK)

So these tracks were co-written and not just co-produced? My interest is waning.

Re: New Single: Scribble - Digital Download Out Now: Details here!

when you're making electronic music, "writing" and "producing" are pretty interchangeable. It's not like a rockband where the band will write the song and then take it to a producer to record it.
When High Contrast was adding beats to Scribble, he was writing as much as producing.

Ah. Ok, I was looking at it a little differently and hoping what you said was the case. Thanks KoS.

but I should give it a chance I know...

btw I bought my Scribble (Album Version) from iTunes for 12 SEK
not much money for such a good song!

Re: New Single: Scribble - Digital Download Out Now: Details here!

I've just sent an angry email to OM records about the restrictedness of the beatport release.

BUT!
you can buy the release as .wav (or flac) from junodownload! Even if you're in the Netherlands! :)

http://www.junodownload.com/products...RLD%20SCRIBBLE

it's 2.49 Euro per track or 6.50 for the whole release (plus some credit card/paypal charge)

Re: New Single: Scribble - Digital Download Out Now: Details here!

I would assume OM Records only handle the USA releases... http://www.om-records.com/blogs/944-...rworld-for-usa

So this may explain why it is rectricted to certain territories...

What label is UW releasing barking on in Europe and Worldwide???

I cant help getting the feeling that we are taking a big step backwards here. Even at RRP of 3.99gbp you got a CD disc, with art, case, sometimes bonus video or postcard. Now you pay double that and just get a digital download, and you have to hunt high and low to find it. No PDF art, no press release no iTunes ITLP (though that would be pushing things, but a way to say hey we are moving on with the times but still want to give you something).

Thanks Michiel for the link. Either I or Todd will update the original post with any info we get regarding places to buy the single. I guess im just a little disappointed with how this whole release has been handled, and the lack of information on underworldlive.com. Its good that we are here to do the dirty (no pun intended) work but we really shouldnt need to.

yeah, this is a total PR disaster - if this 'new upbeat' underworld is expecting to appeal to a new generation with their music, uwhq need to get their act together and get these releases easlily available for people to buy - now! because guess what? people are downloading your new songs for free, because there is no alternative.

well I think the "new generation" doesn't neccesarily care too much about lossless downloads.

Re: New Single: Scribble - Digital Download Out Now: Details here!

Erm...wasn't the song given away for free? So I doubt they care if it was a pre-planned move to generate buzz after getting instant buzz from Zane Lowe/Annie Mac who have played it and plugged underworldlive dot com

They'd be more pissed off if Barking had leaked which it hasn't to my knowledge. So far, the PR ain't been offering it to people I write for either, so I wouldn't expect a leak for yonks.

Youre missing the point. Lossless or not, its a messy release with inconsistent quality and restrictions.

There's no question we're taking a step -- if not several steps -- back.

In the long long-ago, you could go to Amazon or CDNOW or even a tangible music store, find the item you wanted, buy it for a decent price (even an import), and enjoy it whatever fashion you liked -- buy it, burn it, rip it, jam it, as the saying goes.

Here in the future, you have to go to pointlessly specific places with almost uniformly shitty interfaces and pay some stupid amount for some dubious file that may or may not be exclusive to that digital source, which means going elsewhere to complete the collection; or you have to scramble to translate a complex Japanese website or stalk eBay auctions and pay out your ass for something that 15 years ago was so easy to obtain.

What Underworld have missed is that iTunes and Amazon's digital music stores are successful in large part because they make it easier to buy music than to hunt down pirated versions. What we're seeing is a script-flip, where it's less hassle to just wait until all the material is available for free, and it's a vexing philosophy Underworld have been practicing in since they went fully indie.

I know I say this a lot but I think it bears repeating: Underworld have a dedicated fanbase who are often literally begging to pay the band money for things, and the band is making it incredibly difficult for us to do that.

I really couldnt care less about this release...

...no cd/vinyl why bother? In years to come and you are looking at your UW memorabelia from the Barking era I cant imagine myself giving two shits about a download of the album version of scribble and an absolutely bollox Netsky remix. No real physical art work... nothing that has a memory attatched : Instead of holding in your hands a cherished vinyl copy of scribble and remembering the summers eve you walked with a hop in your step home from the record store and put the needle to the groove for the first time on your favorite bands newest single.... these memories will instead be replaced with this:

Name: Scribble
Type: mp3
Path: D:/Music/Underworld/Scribble (Bullshit download, thanks for the cash, love Steve Jobbs xxx).mp3
Date Created: 14/05/2010 14:53:23
Date Modified: 14/05/2010 14:53:26

........oh memories like that will surely bring a tear to my eye and a flutter in my heart...

...get fuckin real and give us something tangible!

Dunwho has a point. I listen to various Underworld songs through out the day, but it's easy and doesn't require much effort.

Go out to a record store and buy the album. Drive home, turn on your stereo and put the album on. This requires much more effort and therefore gives you more memories attached to that effort.

I know when I listen to my records, they receive almost all of my attention. When I listen to my digital audio files, it's in addition to whatever else I'm doing (mowing the lawn, working, playing on the internet, etc.).

For me, the tactile relationship i have with my underworld collection is an important factor... but i now only buy the stuff i like, because weather i like the music is of equal value.

i agree with this as well as the above about going out and physically buying a record. Even when i have a digital version in advance, i'm not really sold on a record until i hear it on CD, looking at the booklet.

That said, i still have a stong memory of the digital single download of "Scribble" - seemingly out of nowhere, the track was released and made quite an impression. In the same week, the "Good Day Today" mystery was apon us... i have very happy thoughts of listening to those mp3s. But then, i won't be keeping them the same way i collect records, tapes, cds.

Just listened to the sample of the Netsky remix and really wasn't impressed. No surprise given how consistently Underworld has been releasing crappy remixes of their work for the past couple albums. It's a shame - I loves me a good remix....

Original post edited. Summary: If you want the single either in mp3 or in WAV then the best place to get it from is the Underworldlive.com shop! It only took over 4 weeks to fix...

Re: New Single: Scribble - Digital Download Out Now: Details here!

I wasn't expecting this but I think I prefer the 'single edit' to the album version right now... the album mix feels like it's dragging... maybe I'm just feeling the 'cut to the chase perfect pop' song right now or got so used to the 'single edit' that the album mix seems realllly slow? Weird.
