Everybody Was Euro-Dancing
Shame on me, I made a Eurodance mix:

Re: Everybody Was Euro-Dancing
There are some absolute gems in that tracklist!
I'm very tempted to download because rhythm, in fact, is a dancer and i like to move it move it :) |
Re: Everybody Was Euro-Dancing
haha nice tracklist

Thanks to the both of you! I'm happy that you take an interest in the mix. It took quite a while and endells pain to the ears to go through those Giga-piles of 90s trash with only so much as the occasional ray of hope in between. [/self-pity] Ah, wth, it WAS a bit fun, too. :) I should add, maybe, that the tracklist is quite "Teuto-centric", i.e., I chose the tracks based on their popularity in Germany at the time, and lots of the tracks contain German "lyrics", a.k.a., samples. |
Re: Everybody Was Euro-Dancing
This did make me smile...
"Everybody knew Eurodance was a plague. And everybody danced along anyway. Listen to a mix of some of the most abominable, yet perversely seducing, electronic gems from the early to mid-90s:" :) |
Re: Everybody Was Euro-Dancing
Fuck me, what an awful mix. Or rather, im sure the mixing from track to track is impeccable. But i'd rather drink paint than listen to this. I lived through this once and the scars are only just healing. This has no ironic / kitsch value for me. Just pain. If this is a cry for help you just have to say, and we'll send you some decent music.
Call me a music snob if you like but you have to draw the line somewhere. |
Re: Everybody Was Euro-Dancing
Although I find the music awful, I grew up with it so this mix is pure nostalgia. But I can't listen to it more than once, and I skip regularly :P

Re: Everybody Was Euro-Dancing
Thanks for the, err, praise, guys. Nostalgia is what I had in mind, too. And maybe there's even one or two songs which... No, no, no, stupid thought! Stupid! Pull yourself together, man!

However, maybe that cry-for-help theory of yours isn't that far off the mark, Dr. Steve... |

Re: Everybody Was Euro-Dancing
Sorry, nothing to do with Hitler. Nothing to do with nostalgia. This brainless drivel was awful then and it still is. Age doesnt always improve things, and this is a fine example of that.
You can't polish a turd. I praise your nerves and ears for having the strength to listen to this rubbish in order that other masochistic fools can also indulge in self hurt. I do see merit in the videos for these songs because they are so bad, but only when you play other music instead of the original tracks over the top. Then you can indulge in nostalgia for bad music without having yours ears bleed. |
Re: Everybody Was Euro-Dancing
age certainly hasn't improved you, you miserable old twat
:p |
Re: Everybody Was Euro-Dancing
Haha, he said turd.

I feel I must emphasise that I really do like some of the tunes. But then, they fell into my period of the awakening of a musical interest, and I did like them back in the day. So, for me, it is nostalgia with positive connotations. I guess I'm a backward-looking turd polisher now. |

Re: Everybody Was Euro-Dancing
btw what did you use to make this mix and where did you get the tracks?
a technical thing: the sound is quite glitchy in places (probably a timestretching artifact) which makes it kind of annoying to listen to to be quite honest. |

I made it with the, err, demo version of Live. The problem is probably caused by the shabby source files which are usual-quality MP3s (i.e., 128+ kbit/s) from 90s CD compilations. Strangely, different parts of the mix sound differently glitchy - but not altogether consistent with the amount of warping. Another funny thing is that the mix sounds most awful in Live, best as a .wav in Audacity, and somewhere in between as an MP3 in the website player. Do you have any suggestions for proper artifact correction, KoS? P.S.: Luckily, my friends don't have your ears, so they didn't complain. Also, the party's general sound level might have helped. |
Re: Everybody Was Euro-Dancing
well the main thing you have to keep in mind if you're mixing in Live it to set the warp mode for the tracks to either Complex or Repitch.
Repitch is best since it doesn't degrade the quality or introduce any artifacts, but it works just a like a record player so if you speed a tune up or slow it done too much from it's original tempo it will sound pitched too low or too high. Complex mode will keep the pitch as it was in the original regardless of what the tempo is, but it does tend to make the sound a bit soft and "digital" although it shouldn't introduce any real glitchy artifacts like you might get at the other modes (beats or tones) |

Re: Everybody Was Euro-Dancing
the demo version should be exactly the same as the normal version, it's just time limited.
I think even the Lite version has all the warping algorithms. |

Thanks for the hints, KoS, I'll check out that Complex/Repitch thingy. |
Re: Everybody Was Euro-Dancing
It was a lot easier than I thought: With a single click, I changed the Warp Mode from Beats (the default option) to Re-Pitch for all tracks except "There Is A Party", which I set to Complex warping because Senor BoBo sounded much too squeaky, instead of boyishly cheesy.
Btw, I find your assessment that Complex mode makes a track sound "digital" and soft very appropriate. But then, Eurodance MP3s aren't exactly the most valuable source material to begin with... Thanks again for the explanations and pointing me in the right direction, KoS! Would you mind giving it another listen? http://www.kraasbackje.com/2010/01/1...-euro-dancing/ |
