Spotify.....
Ok this Application is free to download to the iPhone. But it's a £10 a month never ending streaming of tunes. Anyone have this? Just wondered if the Underworld library is good on here?

Re: Spotify.....
howdy
i had a bit of a look before (via the windows app - not the iphone app) and didnt think the uw catalogue was great... i didnt get much further with it but your post has reminded me to have another look...... it's not great. in fact it's a little bit naff. the only album seems to be OWB i think, though it does include all the singles from that album: holding the moth, BB, crocodile & ring road. there are a few other compilations inc songs for tibet which has 'to heal and restore broken bodies' other tracks i can find: 8-ball food a ready (enjoying that now ) and some remixes: spooky - schmoo front 242 - happiness (2 uw mixes) mental generation - cafe del mar bjork - human behavior masive Attack - rising son chemical brothers - leave home (2 uw mixes) william orbit - water from a vine leaf there may be more...... not overly impressive, eh  maybe it'll improve... there is a *lot* of fluke & orbital tho :) |
Re: Spotify.....
yes,digging up an old thread.....
but apparently it 'might' come out in the US 'any day now'.... has the tracklisting improved? does anyone use this? i'm not sold on streaming anything 1)most if not all the 'rare' stuff isn't on there 2)most of my devices have plenty of local storage 3)i don't have a mobile data plan, because i have a feature phone(not a smartphone) spotify sounds good on paper, but i don't think it meets my requirements... any thoughts? later -1 |
Re: Spotify.....

Re: Spotify.....
Saw my sister using Rdio. That is pretty disappointing though. In both cases.

Re: Spotify.....
Yeah, but for 5 bucks a month it's not bad- i just like owning my music rather than subscribing to it

Re: Spotify.....
so you pay 70 bucks a year for being able to listen to music when you have a strong enough network connection or are at home on the internet? i already pay $50+/mo for my home internet plus $100 for my cell/data plan. I'm not paying any more money for content.

including free... i guess it depends on how much music you listen to, and how often.. =========================== http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spotify http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/...service-plans/ Spotify might be able to cover up to 20 hours of free listening by U.S. users per month, given its sizable war chest, in the hopes that enough customers are willing to pay to upgrade to mobile at the going rate of $10, which Rhapsody charges, or an unlimited account with ad-free listening for $5. At that point, the major differentiators between Spotify and those services would be its excellent design and that 20 free hours of listening per month. With a free version, however, Spotify is a totally different animal. While Spotify Open offers 20 hours of free listening per month, no credit card required. later -1 |

has anyone tried it out yet in the US? anything interesting/good/underworld related there? later -1 |
Re: Spotify.....
i started using it yesterday. so far there's nothing of interest from Underworld on there. just the same shit you can buy at your local shop. in fact, i haven't found a single artist with an album or single available on spotify that i don't already have and in every artist i've looked up, i've got more than spotify has to offer. the playlist sharing feature is very cool and the access to stuff i'd never download is nice but as far as the music i love goes, spotify is severely lacking. without airplay and a much, much larger database, it could never replace itunes. all apple needs to do is make their playlists more 'social' by adding sharing.

Re: Spotify.....
ok, i finally got in..
not too bad for the casual listener, and a few extras that are neat to have... i'm just testing it on a windows computer currently (don't have a smartphone).. ------------------------------------ albums available are: ----------------------------- dubnobasswithmyheadman second toughest in the infants beaucoup fish a hundred days off 1992-2002 oblivion with bells barking ep's/singles ---------------------------------- crocodile (5 versions) scribble (3 versions) always loved a film (9 versions) bird 1 (10 versions) other -------------------- mark knight and karl hyde - downpipe (3 versions) spooky - schmoo (2 mixes) bruce lee (micronauts remix) songs of tibet lots of edits from mix cd's so far, it's a pretty decent selection, and all for free with a few ads (audio and banners).. worth checking out.. someone will have to report on how the streaming via phone works out.. at home i have a fast internet connection, everything sounds great, and is completely smooth.. the client, is decent enough.. there are a few mistakes... not putting the singles in the right section (they are not albums), and one weird collaboration with sky, that is totally wrong.. not sure how to go about alerting or correcting errors.. also, the search function, is basically if you know what you are looking for.. because everything is playlist based.. unless you like sharing your playlists, and know other users id's, you're on your own.. my id : negative1 i'm only testing out a few playlists so far, and will see how that goes.. later -1 |
Re: Spotify.....
hey -1 - I requested an invite to test out spotify. i'm currently using rdio and have been for a while, but their underworld catalog blows for US users. spotify is priced the same as rdio - so with seeing the list of UW albums available - i'll probably switch over.
i only stream music at work and services like rdio, mog, spotify allow you to listen to new stuff without having to buy it. then i only buy what i really enjoy listening to. i'd love to just stream from my own library, however, using audiogalaxy which is the only app available doesn't always work and since my library is over 50,000 tracks, it's take a while to load everything each time, plus having to keep your computer on and logged into the internet with the audiogalaxy app running is a little lame... |
Re: Spotify.....
I'm digging spotify- what do you want for free?! Loads of stuff here that i'm catching up on and loads of stuff i haven't heard in years. NP: Spiritualized- lazer guided melodies

Re: Spotify.....
Not really sure where to post this to, but I wanted to share a Spotify playlist I created of 25 tracks set to a 9 second crossfade. Although not perfect transitions, it's nice to keep the music going. Overall it's a pretty chill UW playlist. All tracks are available on Spotify US with the exception of the first track Peach Tree. If you have it in your library from the Boy, Boy, Boy single, it may come up. enjoy!

Re: Spotify.....
Man, this thread is quaint. How little we knew back then eh?

Re: Spotify.....
It really is quite amazing how rapidly the industry has transformed. This wasn't even 8 years ago, and streaming subscriptions, which weren't even a blip then, now provide the majority of music revenue.

no joke. I'm still of the same opinion that i like owning rather than streaming but... |
Re: Spotify.....
Owning rather than streaming, for sure.
I‘ve bought more CDs during lockdown that I have in 10 years. I was streaming, and had all my MP3s, but I have found more new music, and enjoyed full albums more, since taking a step back and going offline. I must prefer it. Streaming has its place (useful when driving or in the gym) but at home I like to take a bit more care with what I listen to. Also, sometimes, songs are not available in different countries etc, and also the DAC on my phone is shit. |
