If Rah
There's a video now. The edit's not bad actually. Zips along.

edit: it seems to work from here: http://pitchfork.com/news/64569-unde...h-video-watch/ |

Available on YouTube now too:

Re: If Rah
This is a song that divides opinion, so I am disappointed that there isn't a more inspiring video.
I have warmed to the album art after seeing more interpretations through prints and posters, and there is an accompanying video which is used in this promo that wish would be utilised in a video. |
Re: If Rah
There is an If Rah video that Tomato did in advance of the O exhibition that incorporates those visuals. They've also been using those visuals on the live show. Unfortunately, this video might be region restricted. I'm not sure where all exactly it is playable from:

Re: If Rah
Like the song. Don't much like the official video. Like the style of the visual experiment.
The is a great shot in the official video with the dancer moving slowly on the left of the screen and the really long shadow to the right, but the rest of it doesn't hang together for me. Maybe I just don't get it! :) Didn't much like the I Exhale video either. |
Re: If Rah
i haven't really liked an UW video since Footwear Repairs. They're fine, but after one watch, I never watch again.
|
Re: If Rah
It makes sense that electronic music, so often inspiring dance, or thrown into the EDM category, should feature dancers in videos. I like the freeform nature of the routine, much like an uptempo version of the Chemical Brothers' recent "Wide Open" vid. Yet that had a concept...the dancer turning to mesh. Here, it's just a nicely synchronized routine. I guess I like a little variety (see modern dancers in UW's "Moon in Water"... Great quick cuts of multiple dancers, in studio and nature, group and individual routines). This and the vid for " I Exhale" are one note ideas.
BTW, I do like most of the Barking vids. Less crazy about those from OWB. Yeah, they don't make em like Shoewear Repairs anymore! |
Re: If Rah
Yes, agree with the view that the vids haven't always been that inspiring or whatever. I do love this one though...

Re: If Rah
I dunno... I've liked a fair number of videos since 'Footwear Repairs' (Push, KOS, TMO, most of the ones off of Barking... oh, and I did like the one for "Ring Road")
but this... just seemed uninspired. Like, I feel like I've seen it before - even down to the costuming. However, I really do like this radio edit... it's probably the first time I've ever preferred an edit over the album version... |

The digital promo for If Rah just arrived along with a Matthew Herbert Lunar Dub and the radio edit.
The Herbert dub is interesting, a long slow build, quirky, but better for listening than for the dancefloor I suspect. Oh, and an instrumental too. Almost forgot. Time to invert an isolate the vocals... :) |
Re: If Rah
drooling over the Herbert mix. can't wait to get that.
|
Re: If Rah
Can you provide the tracklisting for this promo?

Re: If Rah
Oh wow. An Instrumental If Rah. That's great news. Hope this comes out on 12".
|
Re: If Rah
The only other instrumental mix I can recall being officially released was Scribble, which IMO is the superior version of that High Contrast version of the song. If Rah is probably my least favorite track on BB, but maybe I'll come around with the instrumental.
|
Re: If Rah
Bird 1 and Always Loved a Film also have instrumental versions (on promos and digital though).
|
Re: If Rah
the whole of Barking was released as instrumentals on a U.S promo cd.
|
Re: If Rah
Love the song... But really underwhelmed by the video... Nice concept - well shot and edited, but it just seems unfinished to me.
I found myself messing around with the different video elements last night and came up with this: https://youtu.be/-DgtCiMxKmw Not necessarily any better or worse - but seems to harkens back to earlier, more layered UW videos. Cheers. |

Really like the lunar dub wonder when this will get a release?
Just realized theres valhalla shimmer in the lyrics one of my favourite plug ins! |
Re: If Rah
There's a 4 track promo CD with it on ebay for silly money.
Yet again I have to wonder why people who want music on CD are being made to give large amounts of money to random ebay sellers. Current business model: Band pays for CD, gives it to random person. Random person puts it on ebay for 40 quid. Fan buys it. Result: Band out of pocket having paid for manufacture of CD. Ebay makes approx 2x normal CD single cost in fees, random person makes a lot more, fan pays ridiculous money. Rational model: Band pays for CD, Fan gives them money for it. Band makes more, fan spends less, everybody apart from Ebay and random person is better off. If exclusivity is the problem, just delay posting the CD until after the promotional exclusive period is over. If price is the problem, charge more - the market will obviously bear high costs. If post and packing is the problem, sell subscriptions - 'all 6 promo CD singles for this album, to be posted once the last one is done, 50 quid', done deal. |
Re: If Rah
Two more If Rah remixes landed today. Can't find samples online yet.
If Rah (Voiski Remix) - 5:47 If Rah (Voiski Sleepless Remix) - 6:34 "The ever impressive Parisian producer Voiski has created two mind blowing remixes of Underworld’s new single 'If Rah' from their amazing ninth studio album 'Barbara Barbara, We Face a Shining Future’. Using the vocals effectively in both remixes as he builds up the main assault, to unleash two cracking Techno tracks. Both these remixes are bound to turn up the heat of any dance floor." |

I absolutely wish bands would do this... ...and if labels did that in the 90's... man... I would have spent soooo much less money on Depeche Mode singles ;) |
Re: If Rah
new order is doing a good job of releasing all the singles on cd/vinyl, with lots
of remixes for 3 so far. they are also releasing stems for 2 tracks and a 2cd set of the extended mixes for all the tracks, which most of them were on vinyl (there are 2 mixes that have been changed). would be nice for underworld to follow suit. later -1 |

I don't know what makes for an interesting remix, but I like the Voiski Sleepless Remix of If Rah.

Re: If Rah
They do want to make money, they just want to make $100 per shipment of a box set to the US.
