Ridiculous listening room

Gallery and interview

This guy bought a converted barn as a house, and converted a large section of it to a music listening room. Wood paneling everywhere. Great effort has been taken to avoid the cables touching the ground. His turntable weighs 550 pounds. He has a dedicated HVAC system, and dedicated power upstream of any other cabling in his house.

For a price. He says his budget is totally blown, otherwise he'd continue making equipment purchases. Heh.

i wasn't that impressed, to be honest. sure it would be nice, but i'd have my shit set up differently. for one, his seating options are shit. where's the plasma? why no carpet or drapes or other sound softening shit like rugs? cables everywhere. all that stuff needs to be built into the walls. the room itself needs to be cozy and comfortable, without tons of gear on teh floor. it's sweet as it is, but i'd spend my money differently.

Nah, I like cables and gear and crap. In fact if I was mine I would like it to look like a shit ass garage. I don't like someplace that looks totally asceptic.

Definately GreenPea, the cables & gear & crap is the way it's supposed to be.

i like his amount of cables. i don't want no garage, but he's really put a lot of thought into the cables and trying to reduce cross talk and such... however i do agree that it sucks in terms of seating...

anyhow, i want it, although i'd never be able to afford all the cds and records... that's crazy nuts

just going by the seating in that room...

my bet is that the guy is kind of an ass. I mean, it's one singular chair... with a couch behind him. So basically - he's seated by himself

I bet he would be the type of guy who'd jump in the backseat if you were driving with him somewhere... so it'd look like you are a "driver" - know what I mean?

Personally I like to listen to music on my own, and I cant see myself paying a lot of money on a listening room so that I will bring 4 more people and make them sit quiet in there to listen to music with me.

Funny that you say the back seat thing as I totally do that, I don't know what you are saying about you being the "driver" I do it because because I like to look through the rear window and be quiet or listening to music, specially if it is a long drive, being in the front seat I the person driving will be chit-chatting all the way. :P

wth?

apart from the guy beeing a nutter: why did he put all the cables on these thingies? it's cables! there's some current in it, and practically no amount of mechanical vibrations will mess with the signal...
