LovelyBrokenThing: Break into tracks?

Do you plan on editing LovelyBrokenThing into tracks or are you keeping it whole?

Maybe this isn't worth of a poll but oh well.

hah yes actually. though its not really what I would call a pain to fast forward, i dont always want to listen to the first track every time and would like to mix it up. As its a 192kbps mp3 though, I'll have to use a utility that can cut it up without a decode/encode so that I don't lose any quality...

Which program? I was under the impression that most programs just decoded and reencoded.

Yeah. I thought that even though they may not say they're actually decoding and re-encoding, that they had to in order to change the audio in any way.

mp3directcut can slice up without doing anything to the audio. excellent little util.

Another simple tool for Win XP is the Mp3 Knife. No installation, just unzip and start (handy if you're at work and mustn't install software on your machine).

In case you want more choice: just google for "mp3 split freeware" or something similar.

Re: LovelyBrokenThing: Break into tracks?

yes i was thinking of mp3directcut. works a treat. of course you can just burn the thing to cd and use a cue file. something like this:

PERFORMER "Underworld"
TITLE "LovelyBrokenThing"
FILE "LovelyBrokenThing.mp3" WAVE
TRACK 01 AUDIO
TITLE "JAL To Tokyo"
INDEX 01 00:00:00
TRACK 02 AUDIO
TITLE "Billy Goat"
INDEX 01 05:37:00
TRACK 03 AUDIO
TITLE "Peggy Sussed"
INDEX 01 11:39:00
TRACK 04 AUDIO
TITLE "Dub Shepherd"
INDEX 01 14:00:00
TRACK 05 AUDIO
TITLE "Lenny Penne"
INDEX 01 16:30:00
TRACK 06 AUDIO
TITLE "Monkey Wink"
INDEX 01 23:33:00
TRACK 07 AUDIO
TITLE "Witness"
INDEX 01 26:55:00

alternatively, mp3directcut can take a cue file and create and name the mp3s too...

EDIT: hah! which is what i've just done. using the Save Split... option with "%N %D - %T" and number starting at 01, it created 01 Underworld - JAL To Tokyo.mp3 etc. Unfortunately it doesnt create ID3v2 tags, only v1.1, but Winamp can copy to v2 and then I can add the same comments that were in the original mp3. Only problem is what to put in the album section now... Riverrun Project or LovelyBrokenThing?

mp3directcut is here: http://www.mpesch3.de/

Job done!

Hey kids, once it's on your machine as an mp3, you can copy it and try it BOTH WAYS!
See if there's a difference! Shuffle the tracks! It's like "Program your own gig" from the EE DVD!

(p.s. i vote for keeping it whole...Karl said it's like getting the UW experience over the timespan of a 12" record...it's a journey, imo)
