who in their right mind looks forward to b-sides? there's a reason why they'll be b-sides....i mean, does anyone actually like "hot acid rhythm" or "freak of the week"?

Hi, bro, long time no see, hope you allright;)

Well I personally love the b sides from Push period like Spring and Swipper.
You are right - freak didnt get me, thats true, and its even EBW maybe 4? and the sound is not that cool.

Beside that I love EBW series, I dont like EBW 4 and 5 (Freak, It Began...)

And EBW 9 is also great, its even better than 8, I would like to see 9 released on album instead of 8.

this album is a bit of a letdown.
but, theyre getting older. and if theyve stopped doing drugs, then it kinda makes sense. they want their loyal fans to hold tight with em' through their voyage thru their musical maturity.
one thing i do know, is that we'll be graced with Chemical Brothers music for another 10 years.
they may take the plunge that UW did, and start doing soundtracks, either to movies or video games, ala NIN.
their live ' performances ' are the spectacle i am waiting for, as i, in North America, arent so lucky to see them live as much as you blokes.

tho, i hope i can share a beer with them again when they come here.
that would make me 2 for 2.
better than Manchester United, eh ?:p

i dunno about the other one but 'freak of the week' singlehandedly destroys just about anything they've done since then.
i really love that tack, but i can see how it doesnt sit right with the rest of surrender.
b-sides are generally the gems that were too different to sit coherently with the rest of the album or they were to coward to try to make it fit. so it gets put on the singles because they're quality tunes regardless.
so b-sides are really where you see the more experimental or different side of them, and are often pretty damn rewarding.
so i'd ask who in their right mind doesn't look forward to the b-sides if they like the album?

regarding freak of the week...
by far one of my favorite chemies songs, b side or not. its fun, and the breakbeat percussion at the end is a dj's dream to mix this into a mix.
how it never made it onto any of their albums is mindboggling to me.
but then again, b sides hold their own ground, and this song is SOLID.

Rize Up, Spring, and Giant were actual pretty good b-sides from PTB.

The sides from Come With Us were very disappointing. Base 6 was kind of cool. But still pretty generic sounding.

Do It Again, Burst Generator and We Are the Night, IMO are the only listenable tracks on this album. I think ive given it its fair share of listens too. kinda sad really.

Re: new chemical brothers album and tour

yeah, i played this one a lot more than i would have, so i thought i might be coming around to it, but that was probaly because this is infinitely better than push the button, althought that doesn't say anything.

we are the night
saturate
pills wont help you now
burst generator

are the only tracks worth repeat listens, and even generator seems like a stretch. the main reason why i like the last track is because it seems to describe a pretty hopeless and uncontrolled situation in this warm summer fuzzy track with nice drums and all. i just like it.

so yeah i guess liking 4 tracks is a drastic improvement over the last album, but that this point it's kind of humoring my history with the band rather than listening to them out of quality.
