Happy Belated birthday indeed Karl.

Here's hoping that the show here in Toronto in August provides adequate reason to celebrate! 2 of my friends will be sharing a birthday that night & I am rallying a huge contingent to see the long overdue return.

Fingers crossed and begging for a massive 3+ hour epic of a show.

The chain thanks.

Anybody notice that the book they ordered copies of today was called "The Floating World" and that the Tokyo performance of Simple Distinctive was subtitled "Floating Worlds"?

I think its based on yukio-e (spelling???) which is a traditional japanese concept that is applied to their style of art and calligraphy... often used to describe the open spaces on Japanese prints...

...a while back i remember reading something karl said about his love of japanese art and how he read a lot about it in books as a child/young artist... and its clear to see the influence of monochromatic caligraphy in the Tomato Art group works and interest in typography...

See here:

The Floating World is a book by John Warwicker that's been delayed since like 2004. For a while, there was a promo movie for the book on the Tomato site, and the background music was "Simple Distinctive".

dark and long train and a smile tretched allover my face. one of those moments to share energy with all

and in compliance with the ongoing topic, the preview of the book looks incredibly good. the content and volume more than justifies the price
