That's a good one! i found mine used for super-cheap, cos the box was beat, but the booklet and discs are soooo nice! Interesting scribbles by the UW lads, as well as lotta other cool (if disbanded ) early 90s artists!;)

A question for all y'all...was "Oh" ever released apart from the "Life Less Ordinary" soundtrack? It's one of the few tracks i still haven't heard.:o

Re: collectors' corner

it was only on the soundtrack, and the promo for that soundtrack... which I believe was on a 10" vinyl (no - not 12")

but don't quote me on that one

(edit)

wait... I just read this month's Q
apparently, it's also on a compilation called "Top Gear: The Ultimate Driving Experience"
the comp. got 3/5 stars

is the lyrics booklet separate to the cover / sleeve?

because it looks like the basic Moaner CD, but comes with the obligatory obi strip...i therefore think the lyrics bit is additional...

looks pretty neat to me...

Ahh, you bought that did ya? I was sorely tempted. Then I looked at the likes of BSS. And Lloyd. And Stimps. And Geo. And I thought to myself "If I buy this I won't stop bidding for stuff on eBay". Then I looked at my bank account and made a sensible life choice.

Isn't this the truth! There've been so many ebay auctions that have gotten away from me because someone "wanted it more" (read: had more money than me)! At some point, i always do a cost-benefit analysis...if it's a single track i've never heard, i won't bid too much, because it doesn't make sense to me to pay big bucks for one song. But if it's a very rare item or something with a lot of new-to-me tunes, it seems more "worth it". What is something "worth", anyway? As much as someone's willing to pay, is all. :p

i too have the same dilemas... ;)

but i think, as the 'numberonesuperfan' i must have it, and will bid to get it, i've paid over the odds for a few things mainly to be the first to own something, but i do have limits (like i wouldn't have paid over the odds for the Tokyo CD)

thing is, you can get stuff, at a slightly later date, for much less, which i have found out, and its the 'stupid' people like me who put the price up initially, but this happens all over the place...with many artists

anyhow, that is sadly how auctions work, and the people who make money off auctions, do so in the hope that two people want something so much, that they outbid each other...sometimes you get to buy things for next to nothing, sometimes you pay a lot, but some of the best and rarer items i own have come to me for next to nothing, but then again i trawl bargain bins and record stores constantly

getting mother earth / the hump for £25 was one such occassion...

anyways you never know what may turn up and where...so keep looking people

lloyd 02-02-2006 10:37 PM

Re: _juanita_ger_promo_12inch_

I too do a 'cost-benefit analysis', it isn't like I buy everything. Because I have most of what I want to own now, the things I miss are the rare ones. I look everywhere on the internet to buy them. I'm not involved in a lot of biddingwars but have lost most of them because the others use snipertools (last second automated bidding).
There are still a lot of bargains at ebay to have, patience is your friend.. and bidding tactics is something you learn. I have a little more budget then most because I work in shifts, but still I won't pay topprices. Most I won at ebay was for normal or even low prices.
In the chat we point eachother to nice items for good prices, currently I'm helping Geo to build his collection of 12" and rare(r) cds for instance, he wins them for very low prices a lot of times.

TWO pink Rez's?

Now you're being selfish :p

Are they both the genuine article or is one the pale pink and one the darker pink?

its rare but not 25 euro's rare...

pay no more than £10 for this at the most or 15 euros...

although i reckon you could get it for between £5-£8...

its just the album version on a one sided promo, in plastic sleeve - not 'that' special...

one for the collector, but don't pay silly money for it....

Re: collectors' corner

new old skool arrivals:

Underworld Mark 1 stuff:

I Need a Doctor / Pray For Me - 1988 Sire 7" Single

oddly enough the credits for this record read:

(Karl Hyde / Rick Smith / Alfie Thomas)
Screen Gems

I've never noticed the Screen Gems name check on any of the old UW stuff before...?!? I wonder how long they used this for?? *checks old UW stock*

i got this off ebay, as usual, also:

Stand Up / Change the Weather - 1989 WB 12" Single Promo - WEA PRO 361 - with 'Cancelled SABC Stamp' on label - nice promo 12"

plus these:

Underworld - Munchen Theaterfabrik - 1.10.89 - Live Gig Cassette (bootleg?) (recorded to Sony C90)
Underworld - Hamburg Grosse Frieheit 6.10.89 - Live Gig Cassette (bootleg?) (recorded to Sony C90)
Underworld - Hamburg Grosse Frieheit 3.9.88 - Live Gig Cassette (bootleg?) (recorded to Sony UX90)
Underworld - Hamburg Knust 9.9.91 - Live Gig Cassette (bootleg?) (recorded to TDK SA 90)
Underworld - HH Knust 9.9.91 (teil 2 / tape 2) - Live Gig Cassette (bootleg?) recorded to Maxell UL 60)

A nice array of old gig recordings, which appear to have been recorded by a fan from the gigs, although they look like the old type of bootleg cassettes they used to sell at record fairs, in 'officially knocked up sleeves' - so these may be better quality than that...?!

i don't have the facility to play these (no cassette player) so i don't know about the sound quality or even track listings, but, if these are missing from the archives, please let me know and i'll sort something out and get them to a digital format and up load them for prosperity, if you old skool UW fans are interested...

obvioulsy i just wanted them to add to the collection, as these may be some of the only recordings of the time...

anyway keep hunting for the old stuff, its the history that matters :)

big screen satellite 02-14-2006 05:00 AM

Re: collectors' corner

the only place where i see Screen Gems mentioned on anything else by UW is usually on US released stuff from EMI group:

Glory! Glory! - US Import 12", which has 'published by Sceem Gems - Emi Music Inc' underneath the credits...

no other 12" has a mention...

as couple of 7's also have some 'screen gems' nods...

show some emotion promo - US 7" 'published by Sceem Gems - Emi Music Inc' underneath the credits...
glory glory - US 7" 'published by Sceem Gems - Emi Music Inc' underneath the credits..., plus another 7" mentioned as the I need a Doctor 7"
stand up - US 7" 'published by Sceem Gems - Emi Music Inc' underneath the credits... - not on the UK 7" version

interestingly this spelling of Gems is not how the band used it on their first single, which was Gemz...so its probably more of a link to the EMI company that made the film Underworld, and purely a coincidence...or maybe not...
