Loved it. Esp the industrial part of the show, kids loved it too, I shoved them in bed after that but we watched it AGAIN the next day on red button.

I Will Kiss is an awesome tune. And when the 2 Months Off bells were dropped into Caliban's Dream right before they lit the cauldron I jumped out of the sofa and yelled "YES!!!" ... surprised I didn't wake the kids.

Topically I only just finally watched Frankenstein the night before at my local indie cinema, with Miller as the monster. Great stuff also!

just watched the opening ceremony Pandemonium and Caliban's Dream back and it works so well... the whole craziness of industry and then the silence (whistle section) for the war memories... that whole sequence took some planning - props to Danny Boyle and Rick for making it fit so well...

Is it just me, or does "Confusion the Waitress (Darren Price & High Contrast Remix)" have absolutely none of the original in it at all?

Yeah, I'm having a hard time finding anything from the original in it.

Also, I don't think Confusion, Dark & Long, or Dirty Epic were actually played during the Parade.

I'm sure I caught that loop from Dirty Epic, the one that comes in just after "And we all went, mental, and danced". I don't remember hearing much more of it though.

"Caliban's Dream" is currently number 7 on the UK Singles chart:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/update/singles

I believe this is the mid-week update, and the final chart is released on Sunday. I think this is their 2nd highest charting single ever, and their highest since TMO hit #12 on the Singles Charge in 2002.

Frankly, it's cheaper to order it on Amazon.co.uk and have it shipped from there to the U.S. (about $17 shipped), than it is to buy it on Amazon.com.

I'm not sure if this CD is going to get a US domestic release.

Went back an was browsing the Parade of Nations part of BBC broadcast and 'Confusion the Waitress' was played over the PA starting at Kuwait and for about 3 and 1/2 minutes. Probably was when NBC decided to go to commercial.

Trying to find if the others were played.

Good call, cancelled on .com and ordered through co.uk. Was slightly over $18 with shipping and everything, but still at least ten bucks off! :)

Re: Isles of Wonder - Music for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games

So, I went over the broadcast, and here's the actual playlist for the Parade of Nations:

1. The Chemical Brothers - Galvanize
2. High Contrast - Moon Watcher
3. Underworld - Always Loved a Film (Instrumental)
4. Underworld - Rez (High Contrast Remix)
5. Underworld - Deep Arch (Darren Price Remix)
6. Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls
7. Underworld - Minneapolis (High Contrast Remix)
8. Adele - Rolling in the Deep
9. The Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive
10. High Contrast - Strutter
11. High Contrast - Reach
12. High Contrast - Ghost Dance
13. Underworld - Confusion The Waitress (Darren Price & High Contrast Remix)
14. Wretch 32 feat. L - Traktor
15. Underworld - Dark & Long (Dark Train) (Remix)
16. Fuck Buttons - Olympians (High Contrast Remix)
17. Electric Light Orchestra - Mr. Blue Sky
18. High Contrast - Can't Stop This Fire
19. Underworld - Moon in Water (Instrumental)
20. Underworld - Crocodile (High Contrast Remix)
21. U2 - Where the Streets Have No Name (High Contrast Remix)
22. U2 - Beautiful Day
23. High Contrast - For Years
24. High Contrast - Emotional Vampire 120
25. David Bowie - Heroes
26. The Chemical Brothers - Galvanize

Obviously, there were some changes from the album order and choices. Dirty Epic and Dark & Long (and The Long Way Home) were not used. There were a few additional songs that I couldn't Shazam or SoundHound either. Because they were instrumental and in the vein of the other songs, I labeled them as unknown High Contrast songs.

As Troy McClure pointed out, Confusion the Waitress was about 3 or 4 minutes. I noticed several other tracks were longer than the album too, like Dark Train (about 2 minutes longer), Crocodile (about 1 minute longer) and others. I think the only Underworld songs we got in non-trimmed form on the album were Rez and Minneapolis.

The parade lasted 1 hour 40 minutes, and the album is 1 hour 15 minutes, so I'm sure the trims and omissions were due to time constraints (and licensing costs for non-Underworld/High Contrast songs).

Also, I found out the album is getting a US domestic release on Decca, but not until August 28. So, I'm guessing NBC had a hand in the release. ;)

Ah, that's a shame that it didn't (and probably won't) crack the top 10.

Thanks for pointing that out. Based on his comments there, it sounds like the other tracks will get releases soon, and maybe his work on a Nuxx remix too that wasn't used. Maybe we can hope for unmixed, full versions of all the Underworld tracks.

A couple of links:

The full 3 hour and 50 minute ceremony with no commentary (but with stadium effects). Available to view 'in the UK' until January 2013.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode...emony_no_comm/

For those wanting more information on the ceremony itself, here's 46 page the press briefing document to help people commentate and write about the opening ceremony as a whole:

http://www.london2012.com/mm/Documen...DE_English.pdf

Some pages (e.g. 24) appear twice. The first version was available before the event, the second after.

Re: Isles of Wonder - Music for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games

It's not an interview with Underworld, but I caught this on the Richard Bacon / Zoe Ball podcast this weekend:

"...There's an interview with Mike Dolbear, the guy that taught 1,000 drummers to provide the heartbeat of the London 2012 Opening Ceremony, with an exclusive performance from his Pandemonium Drummers..."

The interview is split through the podcast - first part of the interview starts about 6:20, and continues at 31.40. Lots of name dropping of Rick Smith, and the Pandemonium Drummers play a live session (although it is edited for the podcast) and they talk about the process of training 1000 live drummers.

On the upside the lyrics are probably easier to understand in their version...
Also found it amusing that they named every single contributing artist in their "Tribute To" section, despite the fact that the majority of their roles are probably served by a Casio keyboard here.
