Re: TONIGHT... Scribble - New Single

Okay, gave it a few more listens. It really is different from any other UW track right now and I think that's great - they still sound inspired and fresh, 17 years past "Rez". The edit seems like such a teaser though. It feels like it's only about two minutes long even though it's four, which is kind of a good thing. Can't wait to hear the full version...I'm not complaining about the 'breakdown' but to me it doesn't make too much sense in such a short edit. Probably will sound massive in the 12" version. Rock on Underworld.

ok, as much as i'm a bit meh on dnb,

i do like this track - having listened to it now at least 6 times,

i hated the original YDS but this as an edit radio friendly and crowd friendly is pretty summery and uplifting - so its now officially a thumbs up from me - the smiley KH video helps though....

i think its better than Crocodile - and that was the forerunner of the previous album, so maybe....

;D "track has quite an epic structure that needs the full 8 minutes to build and deliver"
I have a feeling the full version will feel WAY better than the 3-min radio edit. I am so ready for it...!! >:9

The video makes me love this song even more.
And again — I cannot wait to listen to the full version later today!!

Didn't have a clue this was out. Ooops.

Okay, after being *f**king mortified* (can't emphasize that enough ;) ) on first listen (and thinking that it made the Pendulum track I heard yesterday sound good)... I'm now on 4th listen of the wav (after 5 of the mp3 still feeling *mortified*) and it's starting to grow on me.

As others have said, the track doesn't make a lot of sense as a radio edit... the vocals after the breakdown are gorgeous, would prefer to hear this in the context of an album or the full version (which is 'being saved' for the album?).

(and lots of other things that have already been mentioned).

I've seen a bunch of blogs and sites link to the free "Scribble" download. I hope Underworld get the website sorted in such a way that the BUY THIS area is clearly identifiable and easy to use. There seems to be more momentum behind this release than there was for "Crocodile", so I hope they're able to capitalize on it.

Re: TONIGHT... Scribble - New Single

So, been listening to this all day when I've had the chance and I still love it. For me, it is better then Crocodile when that came out for OWB. It sounds better for a start and the video is better. Still don't understand people complaining about the radio edit:

1)Remember when TMO came out? We heard the epic long version first when Pete Tong played it. Then we got the crap radio edit which tried to do everything in go. If the same had been done, I'd probably hate TMO but the full length has the lovely build and initial mix.

2)UW need to sell records to make money and yer it is perfect for radio, but this will mean they extend their fanbase and get more people interested.

3)Gay as it sounds, Zane Lowe is pretty influencial in terms of getting stuff noticed, so to have him having it as the hottest record in the world will do UW wonders. Other Radio 1 DJ's pick up on it and play it.

4)During AHDO and OWB, there was bot all radio/TV play for UW. I think this will bring them back in the frame again and got away from Euro shite dance music. To my knowledge, only The Prodigy/Chemicals have gotten their music out there.

5)I'm hoping this is a more dancey record as for me the last two had their moments like TMO,Luetin,Holding The Moth and BB but nothing else of any real merit like PG,BS,Rez etc. With stuff like Bamboo, Diamond Jigsaw, its pretty clear that happy UW are coming back with lots of strong vibes.

anyway.

the more i listen to scribble the more i want to chop it up and make my own version. i want to get rid of that damn nonsensical break in the middle. the break itself isn't bad, its the way those stabbing synth notes make absolutely no sense cutting back in and transitioning back into the fast bit.

for the most part i like the track but i'm really conflicted over some of the elements. i'm doing my best not to compare it to YDS and listening to it as someone who never heard that track before. there's one particular synth sound in there that i find very grating because it sounds very dated and as a result somewhat cliche. all of the things that bother me occur before or during the break. everything after is pure gold. so basically i just need to put the stuff after the break on infinite loop and i'll be happy.

why don't you try it ?
i for one can't wait to see what you can do to sort them out.
fuck...you might be the new darren emerson?

ha! it's been a decade since i chopped anything up of value. unless you count the footwear repairs DVD project, and those were straight edits.

Re: TONIGHT... Scribble - New Single

i got some toddler feedback tonight. i played the radio edit for the boys (20 months old) in the car on the way home from daycare. they went to their first UW concert when they were 3-month-old fetuses so the way i see it UW is in their blood.

the verdict: owen thought it was very danceable and he did some crazy glowsticking kinds of moves to it. jacob was less impressed and kind of stared into the middle distance like he wasn't sure it was his cup of tea.

so there you have it. identical twins, just as divided on the new UW single as the rest of us dirts.

I was a bit undecided on the radio edit but after listening to the full song, I'll be damned if I haven't been able to get it out of my head all day. Thoroughly addictive track! My anticipation for the album couldn't be higher now.

I'm just falling in love with all their new material. This track is totally catchy, I couldn't resist - after downloading the free 192kbps (not terrible) mp3, I had to to buy the WAV - I need this on CD NOW!!! I can't wait for the new album. Yay! Underworld. Yay! :D

As with most UW tracks, the first listening was "hmm, yeah, nice, but ...".

But now I cannot get that melody/riff out of my head !

That is when I realise Rick and Karl have been doing magic again!
It's catchy, it's spreading good vibes and makes you groove about.

i haven't listened to it for 12 hours, and still have the riff. THAT, is catchy...

Re: TONIGHT... Scribble - New Single

Right when Tong starts talking sounds like the peak of the track. We're missing the epic moment and all of the outro here and it's still obvious that this is a monster. Can't wait to hear it live. Those stabs after the Juanita sample are going to be enormous.

Re: TONIGHT... Scribble - New Single

Hospital are featuring Netsky at the top of the page on their website right now. Here's the text:
Quote:

So here it is, the debut album from drum + bass’s hotest property. Not since the explosion onto the scene of High Contrast way back in 2001 have we witnessed an artist rise to prominence so quickly.

Fresh, euphoric and unique the album delivers the full spectrum of the Netsky sound. Big vocal cuts like “Escape” featuring Darrison) and “Moving With You” (featuring Jenna G) provide two instant D+B classics. There are massive instrumentals bangers “Iron Heart” and “Secret Agent” contrasted with the haunting deeper moments of “Let’s Leave Tomorrow” and “Storm Clouds”. Netsky has nailed the sound of 2010’s raver. Clean cut, high quality dancefloor music, perfect for staying up all night to.
You can listen to clips from his new album here. Check out Iron Heart.

It's been a while since i've listened to drum and bass and i'm a bit intoxicated by the Underworld music debuted this week, but the clips from his album sound really good. I've got high hopes.

edit: more about Netsky here. If you love that first era of intelligent/atmospheric dnb, you're gonna love Netsky.

Re: TONIGHT... Scribble - New Single

Positive remarks from Urb.com.

Quote:

Built on a light and skittering drum & bass rhythm, breezy synths and multi-layered vocals, this is Underworld poppier than we’ve ever heard them. And it’s a positive rush. Granted, they’re giving away the edited version, so hopefully the full length will delve into into another six minutes of the Underworld beatscapes we love. But if this is going to be the sound of Karl Hyde and Rick Smith after 30 years together, we’re going to pay a lot of attention in 2010.
