On the BBC they did mention that underworld were the music directors...

they're mostly high contrast remixes though, which is a bit like eating a candy bar when you know it's got shit all over it, but it's a candy bar so you love it.

if i had actually caught this i'd be trolled so hard.

High Contrast on his involvement in the Parade of Athletes:

http://www.highlycontrasting.com/201...ning-ceremony/

Rick Smith ill. Hopefully, it's just exhaustion (understandably), and he'll be fine after a rest:

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2012...n_1713216.html

Finally, Esme Smith, soprano singer. She did backing vocals in ALAF, appeared in Frankenstein, and now last night in Caliban's Dream. Rick's daughter? Or just coincidental last name?

Watching again - the whistling during the industrial revolution's 'Two Months Off' breakdown is the 'Caliban's Dream' refrain

Re: Isles of Wonder - Music for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games

so I was being kinda cheap and well... stupid

So I have both a US and a UK iTunes. I bought the album off of the Uk iTunes, because it was a few buck cheaper (with the exchange rate)

AND OF COURSE - there was a flaw in "And I Will Kiss" - like when it got to about... three minutes left in the song, it just stopped. So I figured, 'no big whoop - I'll just redownload it'

and boom.

apparently - if I redownload the track, it'll make it IMPOSSIBLE to download anything from my US iTunes for the next 90 days! (when I won't even have my UK card anymore)

so um...
can someone give me a copy of just "And I Will Kiss" ?

and is it getting a proper physical release???

listening to "And i will kiss" it sounds like that bombastic stuff they use in front of shows like the amazing race to recap what's happened.

It's to open a show with a 1-billion person global audience - 'bombast' is pretty-much a PRE-requisite. It worked a treat.

How would they even know? They're two completely separate accounts.

...yea - I don't know. Maybe they'll make it so that I can't switch accounts again? So I'd be 'locked in' on one account?

Only thing I can figure, is if it's because I'm using the same laptop (and the same iTunes application)...

Maybe I'll try and re-download it from someone else's computer, while signed into my other account.

Really enjoying all the music on the album. Works great as a stand alone piece for repeat listening for years to come. Will buy in CD form, too, when it comes out.

For some reason my file for 'Rez' will only play on my laptop and not on my MP3 player. Never had that happen. All other files work fine for me. Thoughts? I rarely buy stuff from iTunes, not sure where to start.

Thanks, Jason

This is an audience shot of the "And I will kiss" sequence, just on the telly you can't realise how much is going on! And all those people moving more or less in sync with the music. Must have been a hell of a job to coordinate this stuff.

@Troy McClure. Check the finer details of the file. I had a problem with some of my mp3 files but I discovered when checking the file info in a tag program that the mp3's were actually mp2's. I had to convert the files to mp3 so they would play on my preferred player. However the quality really suffers when converting from one lossy format to another.

that's odd. it should stay exactly the same.
unless you're going from a higher bitrate to a lower one.

if you go from mp2->uncompressed or wav -> mp3
at the same bitrate. it should be the same quality.

How does the iTunes top albums charts work? Is it daily or for the week? On the US iTunes page, it currently says 11th, but it had got as high as 7th from when I was looking. Which is pretty impressive for what is basically a double CD of music.

Re: Isles of Wonder - Music for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games

So, interesting discovery I just made. "Caliban's Dream" is based on "Dawn of Eden" from Frankenstein, as its foundation. If you listen carefully to the choral part in the background (for example, from 2:10 to 2:40), and to the soprano part (Esme's singing, starting at 4:18 and again at 6:34), it matches "Dawn of Eden".

@Troy McClure Have you found a solution to your problem. If you have I'd be interested to know what the cause was. I've never got anything off itunes but I thought all the files were AAC. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that because they have been purchased from Itunes they are protected to play with only apple products i.e itunes, ipod, iphone etc.
@negative1 Yes it is odd but that was the problem. Can you provide a reliable online source regarding the music conversion thing. This is news to me.

Re: Isles of Wonder - Music for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games

Found an article here regarding 'Caliban's Dream' with quotes from Alex Trimble, the male vocal singing lead. Alex in particular has some positive comments for Rick:

"I'm really proud of the performance. I have so much respect for the team that put it all together. Danny always made time to sit with me one on one and go through things and see how everything was going and with Rick we worked one on one too. In the studio, on the phone, it just felt so personal. Not like something that's gone out worldwide! I'm sure it'll take a few months for the reality to fully sink in", said Alex Trimble.

\.

No I haven't yet. I have a 120GB Zune player. All of the files minus 'Rez' transferred just fine to it. The odd part was that 'Rez' plays perfectly fine on the laptop through all the different audio players I have. I'll keep searching though for a solution.

Another article about Rick being ill. The image intrigues me, though. Was the whole thing done live, like their gigs, or is that just old photography?

I really really enjoyed the transformation of the opening ceremonies. the montage was a bit on the cheesy side, but thats okay. the music was wonderful and watching the stage transform was very impressive.

so glad Rick/UW were a huge part of this.

Went with iTunes.

Weirdest read in the booklet:
Underworld are: Kris Burton, Malcolm Corbett, Steven Hall, Karl Hyde, Geoff Jukes, Anis Marks,
Darren Price, Danielle Short, Rick Smith, Robin Turner.

Should we expect Steve Hall on stage dancing during an UW set now? or playing a tambourine?

And I Will Kiss is one of the best long form Underworld songs in years. So epic.
