Testudo, I did this and got all the way through to paypal where shipping was included in the total amount (This was because I specified United States from a drop down box on the underworld site). I did not press the actual pay button because I'm a bit paranoid and feel it won't be an official order through proxy... but it works...

Guys, the way this works is that the Underworld Shop does geo-location on your IP address, and presents the products in your native currency accordingly (I'm assuming that it defaults to British Pounds for locations it can't identify or is not configured for their currency, like ThingInABook's Chile).

During checkout, it passes this currency type and amount to the payment processor (PayPal). Unfortunately, it appears that their PayPal account is currently configured to only accept British Pounds.

So, there's no way to circumvent this, unless you can make your IP Address appear to be in the UK (through a proxy or VPN), and even then it might cause problems with the shipping, as noted.

Why so eager to try to circumvent the system? Just be patient, and let them sort it out (yes, it is taking an inordinate amount of time for it to get properly sorted), but do you really want to place your order while the system if FUBAR'd? Just have patience; I'm sure there'll be plenty for everybody.

I think people would be more at ease if someone from Team Underworld or Digital Monkeys would email, post on the forum, some for of communication.

Karl's disconnected diary posts seem silly in this context.

I love how the monitors/admins on this forum are just ignoring it.

You seem to be assuming that this forum is a part UWL. It is not, as you can see the staff here are trying to help but have no influence over the systems at UWL and can only act as "middle men" which they are doing. If you are going to bash make sure you have your facts straight first.

Any and all complaints are 100% valid. As someone who works in digital content for a living, I can tell you this is a disgraceful episode. I suspect the band or someone they're friends with are trying to build this shop themselves because sorting out a PayPal-based ordering system is so easy, any amateur web developer can do it after reading the basic FAQ.

I say the following as as devoted and supportive an Underworld fan as anybody can be: Gentlemen, you are on the cusp of a well earned mainstream blitz, but your main portal to the world, your website, is astonishingly unhelpful. How many new "Scribble" listeners visited Underworldlive.com today to buy the album and were turned away? How many will forget about this whole thing when the album finally leaks in September and not even bother to download it on Pirate Bay? You NEED to fix it.

I don't disagree with the rest of what you've said, but this is wrong. It's already been well established that Digital Animal is responsible for the new website. IMO, it has not been money well-spent so far.

I'm definitely questioning the competence of Digital Animal if they're responsible for this.
It seems that ALL that is needed is for them to change a preference setting regarding the accepted currency in their paypal account. A 2 minute job. I wonder how many days this is going to take to fix this time? :rolleyes:

As there are 2 methods of payment available via the Paypal checkout (Credit/Debit card & Paypal transfer) it might be useful if those who are having problems indicate which method they are using. The reason I am mentioning this is because Credit/Debit card payments should not be tied to a currency or geographical location.

Doesn't matter. The currency choice is being transmitted from the shop to the payment gateway. Funding method doesn't even come into it at that point yet.

Shame, was just a thought as when I buy stuff internationally via cards currency is irrelevant even with a PP checkout. Unfortunately it's an issue that I can not easily replicate without using a proxy, using a proxy isn't an issue in itself but I am reluctant to transmit my CC details via such a mechanism.

not everybody has a paypal account. mine was opened 2 years ago, when i bought something of uwlive's shop. and that's when it got configured to british pounds (and has been like that ever since). also, when the scrbble downloads were avaliable, the old cart system charged me almost the same price of the track for the transfer, something paypal doesn't.

It is definitely an IP issue. I got GBP prices on my ipad at home. I brought it to work and refreshed the page, getting USD prices. public facing IP at home 173.246.xxx.xxx, is IP at work is 70.155.xxx.xxx. I know that's not going to help anyone, just trying to get info out there.

I was able to purchase the album just now, from NJ, USA. I opted NOT to log into Paypal and just pay by credit card. Not sure if that mattered, or if the system had been fixed already but it went thru.

~$65 total with shipping to the states.

Well, I just managed to order from Denmark and got the receipt e-mail from Paypal.
But when I opted to return to the underworldlive.com shop the page took a while to load and ended up telling me that there was an "ERROR IN THE TRANSACTION !" (in caps and even with an exclamation mark).

So now I'm a little confused - was my order registrered and/or is it a problem with the money transfer?
I guess I'll have to wait and see....

Hi sbommer, I got the same message when returning to Underworldlive.com (I'm ordering from Denmark too - not that it matters, I guess). I thought something had gone wrong and made the checkout again (the stuff was still in my basket) - only to find out I'd made a duplicate order.
Silly me, but "ERROR IN THE TRANSACTION !" is not the mesage you'd like to see when you just paid €60 :( This shopping site sure has it flaws.

Did you guys get a confirmation mail from uwlive? I got none...

My paypal receipt has 793 on it as well. For a minute I thought that's what number I got. But I didn't want to believe it. Besides these aren't numbered as far as I know so it doesn't matter.
