Half the last album didn't sound like Underworld. And half the album before that. They are always modifying their sound and changing things while keeping the backbone the same, like any good band should.

If it was always the same, it would be a bore.

Indeed, when I listened to it for the first time, "gun shots" didn't come across to me, just some sort of semi sped up sliced beat which oddly goes well.

but seriously I'm curious now too-
as to me -> other than the gun sounds... this TOTALLY sounds like UW

there's even some synth stuff in the background that sound like "Faxed Invitation"

AND WHAT ABOUT THE ENDING?!?!??!?!?

Since my argument for this being Underworld is clearly sound and correct :) , let's look at the argument for it not being Underworld.

1. gunshots!
2. sometimes people mislabel tracks
3. someone was clever enough to mislabel a track as being from the new Underworld album, press it on a CD or attach it to an email, send it to Jason Bentley and get it played on Friday and Monday's Morning Becomes Eclectic radio show! LOL That Jason Bentley sure is gullable, that person pulled a hilarious joke on him.
4. Yannick said it wasn't Underworld and as we know, Yannick is 100% reliable and trustworthy
5. There's a slightly different sounding vocoder than has been used on any other Underworld songs

Sound reasonable?

relax, friend. whether or not any of us believe it's underworld at this point doesn't affect its actual factual existence. if it ends up that it is underworld we'll all find out soon enough when the album comes out. we don't have any more information now than we did in the initial post, so there doesn't seem much point in debating what is, on both sides, purely speculation.

i still have my doubts. oh well. we'll all survive.

i mean, i don't doubt that it's underworld, because the chords sound like rick, and the beat sounds like yard beat or some obscure track i heard them do live a while back. i can't recall when i've heard the beat but i have heard it before. the thing i doubt is that it's actually karl singing instead of rick or a guest vocalist. it sounds so unlike karl that it makes me think it's not him.

Not buying into the whole conspiracy (totally them I say!), but loving the idea of the boys having a laugh at us trying to "figure it out".
Anyway, didn't someone awhile back find a list of Hyde/Smith titles (ASCAP or BMI or something)? Could that be a source to check?

I was just listening to today's radio show; he apologized for the mess-up and confirmed this is not an Underworld track. I'm disappointed, but not that surprised. The track is a bit different from what is to be expected of UW, but I admit that I absolutely love the song. I want to know who the real artist is so I can dig up some other works.

If it does turn out to be underworld so be it.. ... though last time i was at the butchers the real nice man behind the counter with the bloody butcher knife was extremely eager to insist that no matter what the man on the radio said the pigs that he cut up last Friday definitely did not have any wings and thus... according to the laws of aerodynamics and nature...and physics in general..

I asked Jason Bentley on Twitter today if he was sure it was Underworld. I also received some correspondence from Chrysalis re: this track but I'm waiting for a follow up.

Guess i'll go ahead and paste this in here. I got a reply from Chrysalis today but since he was wrong about the song appearing in the playlist, I sent him a screen shot and some follow up questions. Here's his initial response to my question 'Is Good Day Today by Underworld and published by Chrysalis?' I'm still waiting on a reply to my second email.

uh no, the autechre track was playing in the background in the mp3 Yan posted where the KCRW presenter corrects himself.

i'd like to state on record at no time did I think this was Underworld - and have since downloading the version, listed it so in my itunes folder 'NOT Underworld'

i'm shocked at the idea that some of you thought it was !!!!

not every track with a Vocoder in it is Underworld - see 'Believe' by Karl Hyde, sorry Cher...

So it wasn't them huh? Good. Hoping they don't stray into "120 Minutes" territory TOO much. A song like this can't be played in public without getting some odd looks or comments anyways. Not too bad of a track mind you, but very glad it's not them or going to be nerding up the album.:D
