Re: Ranking of uw albums

hhhmmm - this is actually quite hard, b/c it's all really up to my mood
plus, there's factors like ->
I REALLY like STITI (and I'd probably go the most 'crazy' hearing those songs live, as opposed to other tracks) buutttttttt..... I find that album annoyingly quiet, plus well - the live version of almost every track on that album sounds umpteen times better than the studio album. But - those live versions wouldn't exist if it wasn't for their studio counterparts... so hmmm...

1) Beaucoup Fish
2) Dubnobasswithmyheadman (Japanese re-release) just so you get that bonus track... and if I'm not mistaken, it's a bit louder than the original pressing
3) STITI
4) Pearls Girl EP (the 60 minute US one)
5) A Hundred Days Off
6) RiverRun EP's (I'm counting the three as one "thing" as it seemed to be one 'whole project')
7) Barking (I'm counting the bonus disc as a part of the whole package)
8) Oblivion with Bells
9) Dark & Long EP (the one with Mos 'Ospitable)
10) Dark & Long EP (the one with Thing in a Book)
11) Born Slippy EP

if we count live albums... then "Everything Everything" would definitely be last on my list, and the x3cd Tokyo one would probably be either just before or just after STITI

what's funny is that a couple of years ago - I would've put AHDO last, but it actually has aged well... while OWB has kind of lost its appeal, I just find that I prefer pretty much ANY live show from that tour over the album. "Glam Bucket" is a great song and all - but it sounds lifeless compared to how it is live, when you can actually hear Karl's guitar

I disagree, i think it is AHDO that has lost it's appeal. It sounds tired and dated compared to other albums. Even the more "upbeat" tracks like DA3D sound flat and uninspiring.

For me, OWB has been a slow grower - each time I hear new stuff and it sounds MORE INTERESTING. The songs have aged well, and (with the exception of Holding The Moth) they don't sound like they were made in the late 90s.

I agree with this, there is nothing on OWB that transforms well into a live song. 10 mins of Crocodile live is just about the dullest thing i've ever heard. Yeah it has a beat and some singing, but its so depressingly sloooooooow for a live audience.

well - I was actually saying that "Glam Bucket" did transform well into a live song...

hmmm - come to think of it - I haven't listened to OWB in a while, maybe I should put it on my iPod (once I get my external hd back) ...

(edit)
Although - I agree with you about "Crocodile" ... when it was extended super long, or when there would be an 'improv' going into to (slowing the beat down from the previous track)... it did seem a bit dull. However I think there were a few times here and there when it really worked...

Yeah I think I've mentioned this too....I would have put AHDO last when it first came out but no other album has grown on me more....

And I just never got into OWB....to me the whole album is a little lifeless except for Beautiful Burnout

Funny thing, AHDO was an album that disappointed me at first, and then years later, it really grew on me. Interesting.

I listen to ADHO quite a bit these days (specifically the alternate version that's been floating around.)

Consequently, I can't listen to Crocodile anymore. I don't know why, but its an instant-skip for me when it comes on now - live or otherwise.

I edited my list a bit and wrote in this text:

I edited things a bit. I have a tie at the number three spot. I'm a Big Sister is brilliant, but I love Beaucoup Fish, too. That list is fluid. Some days I could like an EP or album more than one I ranked above it. However, Dubnobass and STITI are my absolute favs.
