Really enjoyed this gig, largely because it was the first one I have been to for a couple of years.

(I hate it when real life gets in the way of UW, but anyway....)

Loved the new stuff - really good to see so many absolutely loving and singing along to ALAF and Scribble - these both have "anthem" written all over them imo.

Good to catch up with some old friends too.

All in all a wonderful night. :D

My two best friends (and fellow long-term UW live gig reprobates) were at the gig and one of them (Martin) got stopped outside to give an impromptu video review. Here it is:

Wish I could have been there, sounded like a great night. Finger crossed for an Atlanta gig! :)

I can't believe he wasn't crying about the set being the same as the other shows.

A whole bunch of people's opinions on the show here:

Wow, one guy traveled from Tehran for the show. Hardcore!

Well if he hasn't seen the other shows - like me - he probably had a fantastic time.

And while the setlist may have been the same (apart from the encore), at least it wasn't a Chemical Brothers gig where, if you had heard an earlier set from the tour, you could actually predict the next note to come along, never mind the next song!

This is an album launch tour - they have decided to try something new for a change, and have a fixed set list. So what? It is still brilliant when you're there. :)

People on here are uber fans. It's well within understanding to critique. We all love the band and most of us have seen them live many times. That said what stood out for me in their live shows was their energy and the fact that you had noidea what's coming next. This tour so far sounds exactly like the album versions of Barking and the best-of from their last few tours. For new fans it'll be great. For some of us it'll be a step down.

Now of all the shows ive seen I still think Atlanta 2008 was the best so it's not a matter of me longing for the past. :)

Cool... I didn't know that, only had the one link from my friend's FB status!

people on here are uber fans but most people at the gigs aren't.
the show's for everyone and most of the "non" uber's will have no idea what song is coming after the next and won't have read set lists from festivals in eastern europe etc etc.
there's no future for r&k playing 3 hour extended jam's of "oich oich" even if we'd all love it.
i think "barking" and the current gigs are designed to appeal to a younger gig going crowd and promoters who hear the music on annie mac, pete tong etc etc and who'll be at the festivals next year.

"things are constantly changing" haha

Oh we're all aware that the average concert goer in any given city isn't on dirty. thats been documented many times on these forums.

i just didn't want to feel 'wrong' for critiquing the live shows from an mega-fan point of view. As a mega-fan, its sad to see the live show slip into convention.

They tried this once before awhile back. I forget exactly when, but it was received the exactly the same way. Starty-stoppy songs, in an expected set list. Blah.

And I'm not convinced by this whole 'album promotion' tour as a reason to play the same set. They play the east coast of the US once or twice every 3 years. Its not like they'll be back around in January and then we'll get the more showy show. This is the show we get.

Disclaimer: the points above are just observations. i'm still thrilled as hell to see them live again.
