Indeed, "Holding the Moth" is much more complete than "Globe" was.

In terms of working things through, i'd bet many here would reckon that "Beautiful Burnout" is quite an improvement on "Biro the Leggy" (the latter having the protracted middle with the KoS guy rattling on about his Cabriolet and such - cool, but the album version is beefed up for sure!)

Yeah, I too really hope ALAF comes with several versions, I've heard at least three of them, but the first one I heard (the 2006 version with the "I'm a little girl" lyrics) was just fantastic. Great bassline, very nice vocal flow, maybe a little simple for this band, but still really great. It's one of my most played UW tracks...I'd love to get a good quality version of it!!

Maybe it was just to fix the MP3 download problems for everyone and/or to test for the Nov. 10 release of the WAVs? Or to test for more digital bundle downloads???

Always Loved a Film version 1 (you asked for it, you got it! And Karl mentions a v5 coming)

Re: UWlive Audio: Now Open

now that we have version one of ALAF i think we can understand better how the fusion between that and Silver Boots worked from the 2006 webcast with karls 'i'm a big sister' lyrics. i'm thinking the staccato bassline everyone loved so well comes from sliver boots as well as some of the touches and extra things to the beats.

too early to type this...

anyway if version two has all this then obv im wrong, but im just listening for consistencies between version 1 and 4

Actually, I think it's Rick writing most of this, but could X be Malcolm's signature?

I'd have to agree with your assessment. I think the 2005-04-11 and the 2006-05-13 webcast versions are essentially version 2 fused with Silver Boots and lyrics. Version 3 is probably the major update this year on the 2008-04-23 webcast. And Version 4 is the current version as posted and performed recently.

Great vision, Dirty Slippy! Thanks for posting!

(where's my credit card?!)

Errm, though with shipping to the US, we are pushing $40 for a tee shirt from a gig i didn't attend either, so i guess i have some reservations. But i do like that design!
I might need to make some more custom UW tees with Invent-It! Iron on transfers soon. Good fun.

I like the v1 ALAF, but I hope the v5 will bring back that original bassline and maybe the Big Sister vocals :)

new Telematic Peal....hmmm "work in progress" I guess. Some interesting sounds but not really a track.

Re: UWlive Audio: Now Open

Agreed, I would love to see where the tune goes, but that version that was played in the broadcast...it was fantastic, nearly perfect...pleeeeeease give us that one!!

And a remaster of Get Us Out Of Here (is it too much to ask? Can we just remove that awful vocal hiss?? Pleeaase!???!)

joethelion 11-07-2008 08:28 AM

Re: UWlive Audio: Now Open

yea... Telematic Peal is pretty cool - but it definitely needs that vocal

I agree. It's funny how the growling bassline dropped out from the 2006 broadcast in favor of the rolling "Staccato" bit - here's hoping version 2 appears (in a downloadable bundle?:o)
i don't remember the earliest version (eelctraglide concert ?) having such an aggressive bassline - although that version was much slower and the recording was overloaded on bass anyway!

Re: UWlive Audio: Now Open

Ripped and enjoying all these tracks, even the v.1 of Swing Up High (although v2.'s breakbeat and vocals makes it for me).

Agree that Telematic Peal needs the vocal, although as it is , there are a lot of nice parts - the crowd noises, the skittery beat, a fine harmony - but the "music's too loud" lyric was great as on the last broadcast.

Ok, this might make some sense to me now. I love the new versions and the Brixton version with the "heaven" vocals makes me love it more... A couple years ago Dirtyradio randomly played Silver Boots. But to my knowledge it was ALAF so i just figured it was labeled wrong. Maybe it was Silver Boots with the funky, happy bassline that we all miss. I hope Silver Boots, or at least that fun bassline, comes to term sometime!
