Right, and how many of the 60% that didn't pay would have paid for a physical release? I'd be willing to bet a lot of people got this album who had never heard of the band, or wasn't a big enough fan to buy a CD from them.

That too. It was definitely great exposure.

right...

and now it'll be even HARDER to get concert tickets in the US

it's funny - I have yet to be able to score tickets for a single US show... I had to go all the way to the Hurricane Festival in Germany (around the time of HttT) in order to see them live

no - I didn't actually fly there just for the festival, I was already in Europe backpacking w/ my sister, we just lucked out (Bjork, Massive Attack, Radiohead, Underworld, amongst others were at that festival)

Though i kind of lost interest in Radiohead with "Hail to the Thief", I finally went and downloaded this (paid about $6).
Definitely enjoying the upbeat tracks(15 step and Bodysnatchers have great hooks to bring you into the album), but after a few listens, it feels unfinished (hence the 8 other tracks on the physical release) or maybe just passes by too fast without making a big impression. i need to spend some headphone time with it. But it is a return to form.

so i bought it for £1.45, and it's very good. favourites are 'weird fishes/arpeggi' and 'house of cards'. still don't like 'videotape'.

it's weird to be on a forum this small and have several people from my hometown, where bigger forums like the moby boards or the genesis forums have no one from alpharetta.

that 01 and 10 thing, yeah, they might have planned something like that, but i'm listening to it now and they don't sound like they compliment each other; they sound like two totally different albums playing one at a time.

... i think there's 3 or 4 of us (cacophony escaped the town if i remember correctly?), which is quite spooky... maybe if it was a more general 'atlanta' it wouldn't be quite so unusual?

let's hope UW come back to this neck of the woods when rick is chipper again... it was an oddly emotional experience for me watching the thursday london show via uwlive and not actually being there (having seen many a london uw gig when living in blighty).

I paid US $20 and then paid them another $80 for the boxset.

First of all, I am enjoying the new album. I'm a consumer whore and splurged for the boxset that included an early download.

I did want to mention that Radiohead are attempting to do some live webcast right now, and can't seem to get it up and running. Guess they should have hired UW as a consultant to show 'em how it's done!

Did anyone tune into their webcast? I didn't but I have a friend who has an obsessive nature towards Radiohead that is analogous to my own with underworld did and forwarded me the following link to me today of Radiohead playing a cover of New Order's Ceremony. After watching that video clip I found myself grinning quite a lot at the performance of the song and hoping that they might play a Talking Heads song or two at some point.

Additionally, the entire webcast can be found at the following link.

Re: Radiohead, new album "In Rainbows" next week

thom yorke paid nothing for his own album http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7103071.stm

as it says in the article, that isn't as shocking as it sounds - "There wasn't any point. I just move some money from one pocket to the other."

i'm still absolutely loving this album. there's still the usual nervousness/anxiousness at the world/society/environment/whatever that is radioheads thing, but they sound so settled and confident in their sound now. it's not relaxed, it's just less worried. a 'take it or leave it' vibe.

i downloaded this friday. I did not pay but def will pay when it comes out because it's so good and they were right on with this move. it was pure psychology!. really if band were trying harder to play outside bullshit marketing all will be better!

i don't mind having this tracks in better quality, specially Reckoner. uff top track.

Got my boxset and its so worth the money spent on it. Really nice artwork, well presented and the extra songs aren't bad either. Down is the new up and bangers and mash should be on cd1

Glad to hear that the boxset delivers! Wonder what the conventional release of the LP will hold...any extra songs and artwork?

"Down is the new up": what a great song-title!

i received this for christmas but it was delivered to the spouse's office while everyone is out on vacation, so it's there but we can't get inside to retrieve it.

it makes me sad, knowing it's in there, lonely and waiting to be loved. :(

My discbox arrived today (or some reason, I thought this would be shipping from the UK instead of NY). It sure is pretty.

was pretty underwhelmed on first few listens, even remember saying i prefered HTTF............anyway after repeated play its subtle textures & rhythms have really grown on me and its my 3rd fav of their lps after bends & OK.

this wasn't the reason for bringing this post back from the depths of the fo.... but more cos i came across this free remix album called raindayz that i thought peeps would be interested. details here:
