And actually, what are we submitting? mp3's, wav's, flac's? Is this going to be an mp3 download only compilation, or are we going to maybe create a downloadable cd pack of lossless tracks, artwork, bios and everything so people can burn their own cd of it?

Let's say, everyone send their bios and pics to me and I'll send it to the webspace provider.

I guess we should keep it an mp3 download compilation only. Although a downloadable cd pack would be cool, I guess people can make/burn that themselves. Artwork and info is being provided for them anyway :).

I would prefer at least 192 kbps. Or should we not care about slow connections and just do a 256/320 kbps compilation?

The higher the quality the better as far as I'm concerned.

Man....I've just been noodling the first two and a half minutes of my track over and over and over again for the past couple weeks, so that's all I have so far. I need to start flushing out the rest of it now. Shouldn't take long though now that the foundation of it is all in order. I should be done in time. :)

oi.

i've just seen this thread, about a month in.

all the same, i'd like to join in. i always like these sorts of things.

i didn't see any confirmations of webspace being provided, so i'd be happy to offer mine. not only that but i'd be willing to register a new domain for this and future similar compilations. i actually have a domain called 'www.globalsoundleague.com' that's not doing anything.

i've got scads of space and bandwidth. remember when... like... people didn't? times have changed, boyo.

anyways. yeah. as long as i remember this in the morning, i'm in.

let's lock things in and get the basketball bouncing. get the motorcar rolling. get the swordsmith folding the steel.

christ, i haven't even had that much rum.

Of course you can join in, as long as you have your track finished by 21st :)

And yeah, webspace is great!

Just sent a bio and picture to your "sharkdog" email address, Leon. The track will be done in a few days...should that be sent to you as well, or should it go to maus?

I received it, thanks. If Maus is up for providing webspace, and making the webpage look reasonable, you can send the track to him.

hey guys...

leon, if you want to collect everything, i'll try to put together a webpage template format, and then we can coordinate later to put everything up.

you guys can email me at chris$bankoflosangeles.net in case i miss a posting here.

except the $ is an @.

Damn, I've got the track almost finished yet, although I need to tweak it here and there. And I like to add some female vocals to it, but the next opportunity to record them is next Tuesday and that's too late I guess?

I dunno, I have a lot of shit to do for school the coming days... maybe we can postpone the deadline once more? :p

no probs with doing that leon :)
I have a track in production that I should be able to finish sometime soon-ish.

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

a few extra days would be fine, but let's not let this drag on forever. Speaking for myself, i work best with a deadline!

I'll have my track and bio in early next week.

Looking forward to everyone's music!

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

I completely understand the need for a deadline...

but I wouldn't mind a few extra days as well.

Sean 10-19-2007 12:34 PM

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

I have no problems with extending the deadline another week or something either. I was planning on finishing my track tomorrow, so that'll give me a chance to listen to it a million times to figure out what needs final tweaking.

So the mp3's...what does everyone think about file size? I'd love to do 320kbps if that works with the webspace available. And is there a preference on how they're sent? I can send mine as a download through my online storage site if that works.

My track is done, just need to put together a little bio & pic. Looking forward to hearing all the tracks.

Future Proof 10-19-2007 04:14 PM

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

As what I said when I first threw my hat into the ring, my track is done and has been done. I don't like the work I did with the mixdown though, the track is too quiet, the highs are too bright and I have a compresser on the track with in retrospect is actually being destructive in some parts.

If you extend the deadline then great, gives me time to work. If you don't, I will try to make time amidst working all weekend and my dad being in the hospital, but if I can't fix the mix issues, I have an alternate.

holden 10-20-2007 07:04 PM

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

So what's the official word on deadline?
My track is basically where i want it to be. Ready to send.

I'm remembering the Murphy's Law: Work expands to fill the time alloted!:p

I can send mine mid-week this week if that works.

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

Okay, i'm at the point of diminishing returns on my track. It is what it is, needing input from other ears to improve it. But i'm reasonably happy and am calling it done (for now) :p

Leon, i just emailed you my track and bio...let me know if you got it (20 MB in all @320 kb/s mp3, does this exceed the size limit for messages for your hotmail account?)

If everyone could share their trackname, i can add those to the artwork. Dunno if these are all going to fit onto one CD (my track is 7:56, to honor the "8-minute rule"), but the folder is being designed like a CD booklet/insert anyway.

my offering: "Sidewalk Dramas" by AViD

Sorry to hear, get well soon.

I'm sorry guys, but I can't really tell when I finish my track. I have a lot of work to do the coming week and maybe also next week. I'll keep you updated.

The Grandbrother track is called "Midnight Dub feat. Janie H." Janie H. is our very own Beautiful Burnout on vocals. Lovely voice on that young lady. :D

I think it's done, but I need to listen to it on one or two more systems before being sure. I'll probably send it out to you tonight Leon.

looking forward to it!

i had to send you my track and bio/pic as a link to sendspace, Leon...apparently 16 MB is too much for hotmail to handle! Please let me know if you have any problem accessing this.

Jeez, I can't beleive I missed this post until now. Would it be possible to slip in at the last minute? I have a number tracks that I could use, I just need to decide which one. I can pull everything together in about a day. If it's too late, that's OK too. Let me know.

Anyway, it sucks but I'm kinda covered in work so I'm not sure when I'll finish my track. I'll do my best to finish it as soon as possible.

i'd like to voice my support for an extended deadline, since the SoCal fires have caused me multiple project deadline headaches to say the least.

having said that, anyone have an idea for a domain name for the project?

i'd be happy to register one in addition to hosting it...

Thanks for offering to do all that, maus. Just did a quick check and these look available as possibilities:

http://www.dreamgirlcomp.com/
http://www.dirtydreamgirl.com/
http://www.dreamgirlproject.com/
http://www.dreamgirlimdesperateforyou.com/ (a bit long, I know)

Any other suggestions?

And dammit....I know I said I'm done, but I may make a last minute tweak or two to the final version of my track. I've disabled the link I sent to you so I can update it, Leon.

swillhite 10-23-2007 10:13 PM

Re: Dirty producers: Song/remix compilation

OK, I think I've figured out which song I'm going to use. It's a short ambient tune. I've also got a short bio ready. I just need to find a picture where I don't look like a complete dork. Let me make sure I've got this straight:

1) Email everything to Leon
2) Audio File should be an mp3 at 320 kbs
3) Deadline is still floating

Yes?

And here is my info for the artwork:

artist: tHe niGHt oWl
song: Weekend Cute
